Euroleague Basketball joins the family of French sports in mourning the untimely passing of Thierry Rupert, who succumbed to heart problems on Sunday at age 35. Mr. Rupert played three seasons each in the Euroleague and the Eurocup between 2005 and 2011, all but one of them for Pau-Orthez. His 17-season career was very much a tour of French basketball. Mr. Rupert's career started in Poissy-Chatou and also included stops in Antibes, Limoges, Paris Racing Basket, Strasbourg, Chalon, Le Mans and Dijon. Mr. Rupert was a French national champion with Limoges in 2000, the same season that he also won the Korac Cup and French Cup. He also won a French Cup title with Pau-Orthez and 2007. With his last team, Dijon, Mr. Rupert suffered a life-threatening respiratory attack during practice last May and subsequently was diagnosed as needing a heart transplant. Mr. Rupert had been in a coma since suffering cardiac arrest in July, 2012. Since then, charity games and donations raised money for his hospital bills and his family.
