Euroleague Basketball mourns Yvan Mainini

Euroleague Basketball extends its deepest condolences to the French Basketball Federation, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), his family and the family of European basketball following the premature passing on Friday of Yvan Mainini, the former FIBA and International Basketball Foundation president.

Mr. Mainini, a long-time game referee who rose to officiate World Cup finals in 1982 and 1986, went on to a career in basketball administration. In 1992, he became the president of the French federation. He joined FIBA Europe as its president between 1998 and 2001 and later filled the same role at FIBA World between 2010 and 2014.

Euroleague Basketball honored Mr. Mainini in 2008 as one of the 50 greatest contributors to the first half-century of European club competitions for his excellence as a game official.

Euroleague Basketball will pay homage to Mr. Mainini during the upcoming Final Four in Belgrade.
