Wade Baldwin of Bitci Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz flirted with a triple-double on his way an outstanding performance in a winning effort, allowing him to earn the MVP honor for Round 30.

Regular Season Round 30 MVP: Wade Baldwin, Baskonia

Baldwin led Baskonia to an 85-68 victory against ALBA Berlin, finishing the game with 19 points while making 4 of 8 two-pointers, 1 of 3 three-pointers and 5 of 6 free throws. He added 7 rebounds, 10 assists, a steal and 6 fouls drawn for a performance index rating of 29, the highest in Round 30. As such, Baldwin earned his second MVP of the Round honor this season – he also did it in Round 17 – and the third of his Turkish Airlines EuroLeague career.

Following him, Georgios Papagiannis of Panathinaikos OPAP Athens posted a PIR of 26 in his team's 101-73 road loss against Olympiacos Piraeus. Papagiannis had 18 points on 9-for-13 two-point shooting, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal and 2 blocks. Moustapha Fall of Olympiacos and Tyler Cavanaugh of Zalgiris Kaunas came next, with PIRs of 25 each. Fall made 6 of 7 two-point shots on his way to 13 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and a block against Panathinaikos. Cavanaugh registered 22 points, 7 rebounds and 6 fouls drawn in a losing effort against Anadolu Efes Istanbul. Rudy Fernandez of Real Madrid, with a PIR of 24, completed the top individual performances in Round 30.

Daryl Macon of Panathinaikos OPAP Athens led all Round 30 scorers by pouring in 23 points against Olympiacos Piraeus. Vasilije Micic of Anadolu Efes Istanbul is the competition's season-long top scorer at 17.3 points per game. Vincent Poirier of Real Madrid led all rebounds by pulling down 12 boards in a winning effort against LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne. His teammate, Walter Tavares, ranks first overall at 7.9 boards per night. Wade Baldwin of Bitci Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz was the only player to reach double digits in assists, getting 10 in his team's win against ALBA Berlin. Lorenzo Brown of UNICS Kazan ranks first overall in assists at 6.1 per game. Bryant Dunston of Efes, Rokas Giedraitis of Baskonia, Sergi Martinez of FC Barcelona and his teammate Dante Exum each collected 3 steals in Round 30. John Brown of UNICS leads the steals table at 2.8 per night. Steven Enoch of Baskonia had 3 blocks against ALBA. Tavares is also top the blocks' list at 1.7 per night. Poirier (10 points, 12 rebounds) and Baldwin (16 points, 10 assists) were the only players to register double-doubles in Round 30.

Baldwin flirted with a triple-double as he collected 16 points, a career-best 7 rebounds and 10 assists for a performance index rating of 29. That came after he picked up 20 points, 4 rebounds and a career high 11 assists for a PIR of 31 in a victory over Anadolu Efes Istanbul in a Round 20 makeup game and tallied 14 points and 5 rebounds against LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne.

Baldwin is playing his third season in the EuroLeague after helping FC Bayern Munich nearly reach the Final Four in 2020-21 following a subpar rookie campaign the previous season with Olympiacos Piraeus.

Jokubaitis, Davies played a near-perfect second quarter

Davies had stepped on court in the final 2 minutes of the first quarter and Jokubaitis followed him into the game to start the second. Their connection started to pay dividends right now. Jokubaitis lobbed to Davies for an alley-oop dunk and then found with him for a mid-range jumper. Jokubaitis kept going, hitting free throws and seeking out Davies for back-to-back alley-oop slams. The second, with a rare reverse finish, broke the game open, 35-17. Jokubaitis scored around the basket and followed Davies' jumper with a triple. He had time to strike again from downtown and feed James Nnaji for yet another alley-oop rim-rocker.

Jokubaitis, Davies make the difference

Jokubaitis basically had a perfect second quarter, scoring 10 points, dishing 5 assists and drawing a foul for a PIR of 16 with no fouls, no missed shots and no turnovers. Davies hit all of his 5 two-point shots in the second quarter, adding 2 rebounds and an assist for a PIR of 13. He picked up a foul that, statistically speaking, his only negative action in the second quarter. Barca did not trail after that moment and kept full control of the game as Zvezda never managed to get closer than 75-68. Jokubaitis went scoreless the rest of the way and Davies added just 2 more points, but they showed how dangerous they can be together on court when Barca faces even more important games.

FC Barcelona grabbed an 82-70 home win against Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade in Round 30 as Rokas Jokubaitis and Brandon Davies made the difference in the pivotal second quarter.

Turkish Airlines EuroLeague fans, we have a new winner in the EuroLeague Fantasy Challenge! 

Barca lost the battle of the boards by 25-33, allowing Zvezda to pull down 16 offensive rebounds. Barca only grabbed 4 boards under Zvezda's rim, its lowest mark on offensive rebounds since head coach Sarunas Jasikevicius joined the team. However, Barca circulated the ball better and finished the game with 25 assists. Its playmakers, Nick Calathes and Rokas Jokubaitis, combined for 12 of those. Zvezda was limited to just 15 assists and picked up as many as 15 turnovers, 3 more than the hosts. 

Barca was really effective at shooting inside the arc, hitting 27 of 37 two-point shots. Its two-point shooting percentage (73.0%) was the second-highest under Coach Jasikevicius. Barca previously hit 73.6% of its two-pointers against ALBA Berlin in the 2019-20 campaign. Nikola Mirotic went 7-for-7 inside the arc. Zvezda had more two-point attempts, 44, and fewer baskets, 21, shooting at 47.7%. Barca also shot the ball better from all other angles, hitting 35.3% from downtown (to Zvezda's 25%) and 90.9% from the free throw line (to Zvezda's 84.2%).

FC Barcelona grabbed an 82-70 home win against Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade despite being outrebounded at Palau Blaugrana. Its shooting efficiency made the difference.

Baskonia dished out 24 assists as it shot 55.6% on two-pointers as well as 39.3% on three-pointers in a convincing win, the club's third straight as it strives to remain in the fight for the playoffs.

Wade Baldwin delivered 10 assists to go along with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Simone Fontecchio had 4 assists and six other players were credited with at least one each, perhaps the nicest of them by center Steven Enoch.

"That is the way to play basketball – to share the ball among the guys and make everybody happy," Baskonia coach Neven Spahija said afterwards.

The 24 assists were third-most for Baskonia this season and the Spanish side has collected at least 19 assists in each of its five games this month, averaging 22.2 assists per game.

Bitci Baskonia Vitoria-Baskonia showed once again how good basketball it can play by defeating an in-form ALBA Berlin team 85-68 – thanks in large part to sharing the ball.

Nikola Mirotic led the winners with 19 points. Dante Exum added 13, Brandon Davies 12 and Rokas Jokubaitis 10 for the hosts. Ognjen Dobric had 17 points for Zvezda while Nikola Ivanovic added 13, all in the fourth quarter. Mirotic had 13 first-quarter points, getting help from Nick Calathes to give Barca a 22-15 lead after 10 minutes. Jokubaitis and Davies excelled in the second quarter, boosting Barca's margin to 47-32 at halftime. Zvezda improved its defense after the break and Nate Wolters hit a floater that got the guests within 67-59 early in the fourth quarter. Exum rescued Barcelona in crunch time, allowing Barca to register another victory. 

Dante Exum got Barca going with a driving layup that Ognjen Dobric improved upon with a three-pointer for a 2-3 Zvezda lead. Mirotic and Calathes scored next to give Barca an 8-5 edge. Dobric kept going with a fastbreak layup and Nikola Kalinic added a driving basket to put Zvezda back ahead, 8-9. Mirotic followed a three-pointer with a dunk to let Barca regain a 13-11 lead. Luka Mitrovic answered with a put-back basket, and after Mirotic and Ognjen Kuzmic exchanged layups for a 15-15 tie, Nico Laprovittola buried a triple for Barca. Mirotic scored again and Calathes added a driving layup for a 22-15 Barca lead after 10 minutes.       

Davies followed a one-handed slam with a mid-range jumper for a 26-15 Barca advantage early in the second quarter. Jokubaitis found his first points and Kyle Kuric bettered Aaron White's slam with a triple that forced Zvezda to call a timeout at 31-17. Nonetheless, Davies took over with consecutive alley-oop slams that ignited the crowd and broke the game open, 35-17. Jokubaitis hit a bank shot before following a jumper by Davies with a three-pointer, good for a 42-21 Barcelona lead. Kuzmic dunked and got help from Dobric and Kalinic to bring Zvezda closer, 45-29. Dobric replied to James Nnaji's alley-oop slam with a triple that fixed the halftime score at 47-32.  

Rolands Smits stepped up with a three-point play and Calathes banked in a floater for a 52-32 Barca lead soon after the break. Smits improved upon Dobric's layup with a bomb from downtown and Mirotic downed a baseline jumper to boost Barca's lead to 57-34. Mitrovic answered with a layup-and-one and Stefan Markovic struck from downtown to keep Zvezda within 59-40. Wolters scored in penetration and Stefan Lazarevic dunked to make Barca call timeout at 59-44. The hosts kept struggling to score and White brought his team even closer, 61-49. Davies and Alex Abrines helped Barca restore a 65-51 margin after 30 minutes. 

Ivanovic buried an off-balance floater early in the fourth quarter. Nigel Hayes-Davis matched that with a jumper, Lazarevic dunked again and Wolters buried a floater to bring Zvezda within single digits, 67-59, with 7 minutes left. Exum rescued Barca with 6 quick points but Ivanovic singlehandedly took the guests to within 73-66. Mirotic and Dejan Davidovac exchanged layups and Exum scored twice in penetration for an 80-70 Barca lead in the next-to-last minute. Barca excelled on defense when it mattered most and Hayes-Davis dunked off a midcourt steal to seal the hosts' win in style. 

FC Barcelona grabbed its sixth consecutive home win by downing Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade 82-70 at Palau Blaugrana on Friday. Barca leads the standings with a 22-6 record and already qualified to the playoffs. Zvezda dropped to 13-16 and saw its four-game winning streak come to an end.

"Congratulations to our players and fans. I thought our first 15 minutes, were absolutely spectacular, some of our best this season, and the best in a long time. And I thought there was a little bit of relaxation and probably a little bit of problems with my substitutions in the last four minutes. But it is a little bit of an excuse, because we need everybody in this crazy schedule in March. And then, very clearly, we showed we need to get our killer instinct back, because in some games now, we start to play better basketball but we don't close the games better. But in general, I am very happy. Zvezda had won five out of six; they are in a very good shape and they showed it in the second half. We should be happy about, in general, the game and the result."

"Congrats to Barcelona for the win. We played very soft defensively in the first half. Our focus was not good enough, so many mistakes defensively, and they played really good. The second half was totally different. Different approach. Our defense was much better, but in the end, it was not good enough for more tonight. We have a difficult schedule: three more games away and a last game against Efes at home. We will go step by step, game by game, and we will see. At halftime, we talked about how we could improve our defense, and we did that. It was different than in the first half, but again, like I said, it was not enough for more than this. Barcelona played better than us and deserved to win. They are better than us, basically."

"We played against a very good team in Zvezda. They didn't have a very good first and we knew that they were not going to give up, that they were going to fight, because they are a really competitive team. It was a very good game by them. I think by us as well. We had some not-so-good moments during the game, especially that third quarter. But in the end, we won the game, and it is a very important win. We know there are only a few games left in the regular season, so each of them counts a lot for us. We are going to try to do our best. Obviously, the home-court advantage is the most important and if we can be first, obviously, that is our goal."

Olympiacos Piraeus shared the ball well enough to defeat Zalgiris Kaunas 73-84 on a night when Olympiacos playmaker Kostas Sloukas moved into fifth place on the EuroLeague’s all-time assists list.

Sloukas passed Diamantidis on assist charts

Olympiacos dished out 21 assists in its victory, including 7 in the fourth quarter alone. Sloukas scored 10 points and collected 6 assists as he surpassed retired Panathinaikos Athens legend Dimitris Diamantidis for fifth place in EuroLeague history in assists. Sloukas moved to 1,256 assists in 307 career games for Olympiacos and Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul. Diamantidis had 1,255 assists in 278 games - all for the Greens.

Sloukas is currently averaging 4.8 assists per game this season. He is on pace to record his sixth straight season with at least 4.5 assists per game in the EuroLeague.

Sloukas has been shining recently with 10 assists in Rounds 28 against FC Bayern Munich and 29 versus ALBA Berlin. He had double-figure assists in four games in 2020-21 for Olympiacos, including twice matching his career-high of 11 assists. In each of the previous three seasons, Sloukas had at least 10 assists in three games.
