Valencia Basket overpowered FC Bayern Munich 88-65 in the Ciutat De Lliria tournament on Sunday. Bojan Dubljevic scored 12 points and Josep Puerto and Chris Jones added 10 each for the winners. Jones also dished a game-high 5 assists. Jared Harper scored 9 points in 17 minutes in his Valencia debut. Valencia pushed the pace in the early going and used a 9-0 run to lead 17-26 after 10 minutes. Cassius Winston took charge for Bayern in the second quarter, but the margin remained 11 at the break and then Valencia pulled away in the second half. Winston shined in defeat with 32 points and his backcourt mate Corey Walden added 11.
AS Monaco’s final game of the preseason was a winning one, 58-76 over Bahcesehir Koleji in Antalya, Turkey. Mike James and Donatas Motieunas scored 17 points each to lead Monaco. Despite falling behind 0-5, Monaco got going quickly and Matthew Strazel’s three-point play to finish the quarter made it 15-22 at the end of the opening quarter. Monaco turned the screws on defense in increasing the margin to 20-38. It was 29-47 at the break and Monaco cruised the rest of the way. Jamar Smith led the Bahcesehir attack with 17 points.
