Real Madrid head coach Chus Mateo:
"It was more (scoring) than the coaches wanted at the beginning. Zeljko Obradovic probably wants to play more defense and for sure Real Madrid wanted that too. In the first quarter, they scored 40 points - too many. The game just went that way. The game is very long and sometimes it just depends on some details - what is good for you or bad for you. In this case, we had some good luck and we finished with the win with 105 points. That is too many but that is the way the game went.
"It seemed like the game was one from the NBA. Both teams were both good from the outside, especially them in the first quarter. It was difficult for us to defend their three-pointers. They played a bit differently against us, knowing that Edy [Tavares] and Vince [Poirier] have a lot of potential inside and open up the court. We had some problems answering them at some points but we kept on fighting and we kept them to 11 points in the second quarter. That showed us the way. In the second half, facing a team this dangerous with players with this quality we had the danger that the game could go one way but it went a different way. We managed to score 105 points but we also allowed 97. Sometimes, games go ways we can’t imagine. We needed a lot of energy. We controlled the rebounds quite well against one of the best teams on offensive rebounds in the EuroLeague. And I believe in general we had a very good game and knew we had to defend and not just exchange points with them."
