Panathinaikos Athens finished the double-round week with two wins from two, as the Greeks dominated LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne at OAKA Altion on Friday night.
Bacon carries Panathinaikos to 77-58 blowout of ASVEL
After controlling the first half, Panathinaikos mounted a 15-3 run early in the third quarter to put the game to bed early and finish with a 77-58 win. Dwayne Bacon poured in a career-high 25 points to carry Panathinaikos to a 4-6 record, with this being its third win in the last four games. Mateusz Ponitka chipped in 10 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists, and Georgios Papagiannis added 9 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocks in the win. Yves Pons scored 11 points for ASVEL, which has dropped four in a row for a 3-7 record. Alex Tyus recorded 10 points and 9 rebounds for the visitors.

There wasn’t much scoring in the opening quarter, as Panathinaikos put in six straight points for the first sizeable lead at 13-6. After 10 minutes, the score was 15-11. Arturas Gudaitis helped out in the second quarter with four points, while Panathinaikos had a 12-2 run to extend the cushion to 35-20. The hosts went into the break ahead 39-24. The Bacon show continued with 12 points, including two triples, in a 15-3 surge to open a 54-29 lead. The margin was then 66-37 after 30 minutes. ASVEL refused to just give up, with Pons scoring seven points to help get within 19 points, but Panathinaikos finished strong and sealed the victory.
