Real Madrid kept a solid core of the team that reached last season’s Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Championship Game, but key players were added and new head coach Chus Mateo said important early victories give the club patience to work in those new players.
“It’s important to start winning important games, like today, like the SuperCup because it’s the best way to build patience and work day by day without issues and without rushing,” Mateo said after a 68-71 road victory over Panathinaikos Athens to start the EuroLeague season as well as Real’s 89-83 overtime win over FC Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup in late September. “We need time to have the new players play the way we want.”
