Did you know? Regular Season Round 10

Sep 10, 2018 by Euroleague.net Print

You know that the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague is the only major round-robin team competition in Europe.

You know, therefore, that fans anywhere can see every major club and superstar player go against their own teams.

And you know what that adds up to – season-long drama that only the EuroLeague can deliver!

BUT…. did you know the following about the games of Round 10?

One Team RS10

Darussafaka Istanbul vs. Herbalife Gran Canaria

A rematch from last season’s EuroCup.

These teams have never previously met in the EuroLeague, but did go head to head in the Top 16 of last season’s 7DAYS EuroCup. Both games were won by the home team.

Zalgiris Kaunas vs. AX Armani Exchange Olimpia Milan

Kuzminskas and Gudaitis return home.

Milan forward Mindaugas Kuzminskas started his EuroLeague career with Zalgiris. He played 43 games in the competition for the Lithuanian side between 2010 and 2013. His teammate, center Arturas Gudaitis, also spent two seasons with Zalgiris.

Olympiacos Piraeus vs. Buducnost VOLI Podgorica

These teams were rivals long ago.

They have never met in the modern format of the competition but did play against each other twice in the 1999-2000 season, winning a game apiece.

Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv vs. FC Bayern Munich

Maccabi is defending a perfect record against Bayern.

These teams have previously met only twice, during the 2013-14 Top 16. Both games were won by Maccabi by just 2 points – 66-64 and 92-94.

Real Madrid vs. CSKA Moscow

This will be the first rematch between last season’s semifinalists.

This is the first meeting between Madrid and CSKA since last season’s semifinal, which saw Los Blancos advance en route to the title with an 83-92 triumph in Belgrade.

Khimki Moscow Region vs. Panathinaikos OPAP Athens

Langford heads back to where it all began.

Panathinaikos sharpshooter Keith Langford gained his first taste of EuroLeague action during a two-year stint with Khimki from 2009 through 2011.

Anadolu Efes Istanbul vs. KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz

Efes and Baskonia are specialists in close encounters.

Expect a thriller in Istanbul: seven of their last eight games have been decided by single digits, with last season’s being won by just 1 and 2 points in favor of Baskonia and Efes, respectively.

FC Barcelona Lassa vs. Fenerbahce Istanbul

Barca faces Fener’s recent dominance.

Barcelona won nine of the first ten meetings with Fenerbahce this century, but the tables have been well and truly turned in recent times with the Turkish champion taking the last five in a row.
