Milan brings Datome back to Italy

AX Armani Exchange Milan signed veteran forward Luigi Datome to a three-year deal, thus bringing him back to play in his native Italy for the first time since 2013. Datome (2.03 meters, 32 years old) arrives from Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul, where he played the last five seasons. He helped Fenerbahce reach three consecutive Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Championship Games from 2016 to 2018, including winning the trophy in 2017. Datome was named to the 2015-16 All-EuroLeague and helped Fenerbahce win three Turkish League championships and three Turkish Cups in his five seasons with the club.

Datome grew up with Olbia Basket and joined another Italian team, Montepaschi Siena, as a teenager. He has also played for Virtus Rome in Italy as well as for Boston and Detroit of the NBA and Grand Rapids of the D-League. Datome lifted the Italian League trophy with Siena in 2004, was chosen as the 2012-13 Italian League MVP with Rome and was selected as the 2016 Turkish League Finals MVP with Fenerbahce. He is also the captain of the Italian national team. Datome led Italy to bronze medals at the 2005 European U18 Championships and the 2007 U20 European Championships.
