Valencia Basket reached a new agreement with star guard Jean Montero to keep working together until the end of the 2027-28 season, the club announced Monday.
Montero (1.88 meters, 21 years old) comes off a breakthrough season with Valencia, in which he averaged 13.2 points, 5.3 assists and 1.7 steals in 17 BKT EuroCup games, helping his team reach the semifinals. He was chosen as the 2024-25 EuroCup Rising Star and made it to the All-EuroCup First Team.
Montero also had great success in the Spanish League, leading Valencia to the playoff finals. He averaged 15.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.4 assists in 38 games, being chosen to the competition's first team, as well as its best young player for the third consecutive season, and earning MVP of the Month honors twice.
Born in the Dominican Republic, Montero joined Gran Canaria's youth teams in 2019. He made his first team debut in the 2019-20 season, and also played for Real Betis Sevilla and MoraBanc Andorra in the Spanish League before joining Valencia. He was the third-best scorer in the Spanish League with Betis (17.3 ppg.) in the 2022-23 season, and ranked second overall with Andorra (15.7 ppg.) a year later. He has also been a member of the Dominican Republic.
Montero, one of the brightest and most promising players in world basketball, is set to make his EuroLeague debut with Valencia next season.
