Veolia Towers Hamburg has strengthened its backcourt by inking guard Nico Brauner to a one-year deal, the club announced on Friday. Brauner (1.87 meters, 28 years old) arrives from the JobStairs Giessen 46ers, where he averaged 11.5 points on 40.6% three-point shooting and 2.5 assists in 37 German League games last season. He is set to make his BKT EuroCup debut with Hamburg in the upcoming campaign.

Brauner started his career in his native Germany, playing for ASC Theresianum Mainz and Take-Off Wuerzburg Blue Basket before traveling to Canada, splitting his college career between Cape Breton University and Saint Mary's University. Brauner also played for VFL Kirchheim Knights and Science City Jena before joining Giesse.
"I approach this new challenge without great expectations. I just want to be an enrichment for the team and provide support on and off the court," Brauner said after signing his contract. “The first conversation with Benka [Barloschky, the head coach] was very good. He explained his philosophy to me and gave me a picture of the work culture in Hamburg. That convinced me. He encouraged me not to be afraid of the next step and to start the new task with the self-confidence that has distinguished me."
