Bourg bags big-time shooter in JT Shumate

Cosea JL Bourg en Bresse bolstered its frontcourt with the addition of forward JT Shumate, the club announced Friday.
Shumate (2.00 meters, 26 years old) arrives from Czech powerhouse ERA Nymburk, where he played a key role in a standout 2024–25 campaign that saw the club post a 45-4 record in the Czech League and reach the BCL quarterfinals. A versatile forward who can stretch the floor, Shumate averaged 13.2 points on 46.1% three-point shooting and 3.9 rebounds in the 2024-25 Czech League regular season.
“JT brings a much-needed shooting dimension to our frontcourt,” said Sporting Director Francois Lamy. “He’s smart, committed on defense, and extremely efficient. We believe he’s a perfect fit for our new roster and staff.”
Shumate played college basketball at the University of Toledo, where he averaged 16.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in his senior season and ranked among the most accurate shooters in the NCAA. He was a finalist for the prestigious Lou Henson Award, given to the most outstanding mid-major men's college basketball player, and was the school's all-time leader in three-point accuracy at 43.7%. He also ranked fourth for the Rockets with 117 career blocked shots.
Shumate began his professional career in 2023 in Romania with CSO Voluntari before joining Nymburk last summer. Now the young father of twin daughters comes to France with a winning pedigree and a reputation for toughness and basketball IQ.
