Cluj hands playmaking reins to Zavier Simpson

U-BT Cluj Napoca strengthened its backcourt with the signing of point guard Zavier Simpson for the 2024-25 season. Simpson (1.83 meters, 27 years old) has spent most of his professional career in his native United States, shuttling between the G-League and the NBA. Last season he appeared in seven games for the Memphis Grizzlies, during which he averaged 6.0 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists. In 32 G-League games with the Motor City Cruise, Simpson posted 19.9 points on 39.6% three-point shooting, 4.8 rebounds and 9.1 assists.
A college basketball star at the University of Michigan, Simpson was a two-time All-Big Ten Conference selection and a member of the conference’s all-defense team in 2019. He helped the Wolverines reach the NCAA Final Four in 2018. Simpson played his first season of professional basketball with the Oklahoma City Blue in the G League and the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA. In 2022-23, he played for the Lakeland Magic in the G League and briefly for Grises de Humacao in Puerto Rico. He will make his European basketball debut with Cluj.
