Dolomiti Energia Trento gained its first win of the season by toppling high-flying Gran Canaria, 75-72, in a thriller. Trento improved to 1-5 while Gran Canaria dropped to 4-2.

There was little to choose between the teams in the first half, and Gran Canaria led 34-38 at the interval. Neither team took control in the third, which ended 53-55, and it stayed close until Diego Flaccadori’s three-pointer inside the final minute gave Trento the win. Matteo Spagnolo led Trento with 13 points, while Flaccadori and Trent Lockett scored 12. Gran Canaria big man Khalifa Diop excelled in defeat, scoring 21 points.

Both teams scored freely early, with John Shurna and Diop netting all Gran Canaria’s points in a 10-13 lead. It stayed close, 19-22, at the end of the first, and a pair of triples from Vitor Benite kept Gran Canaria ahead. A 6-0 run gave Trento the lead, 29-28, but threes from Nico Brussino and AJ Slaughter made it 34-38 at the break.
Lockett twice struck from deep to tie it, 44-44, midway through the third, but another Benite triple helped restore Gran Canaria’s lead, 53-55, with 10 minutes left. Toto Forray’s three-point play sent Trento back ahead, and the lead kept swapping hands until the final minute arrived with the game tied, 68-68. Flaccadori’s triple sent Trento ahead and Andrew Albicy’s missed free throw sealed the outcome.
