After an up-and-down first season, the Wolves are back with a vengeance
Games to Watch: Wolves Twinsbet Vilnius
Wolves Twinsbet Vilnius were one win away from reaching the BKT EuroCup Eighthfinals last season and finished seventh in Group A with an 8-10 record. The goal remains the same this season: to reach the knockout stages. Here are some of the key dates Wolves and their fans should be looking forward to:
Round 4: Andrews in the spotlight
All eyes will be on combo guard Andrew Andrews when Wolves visit Joventut Badalona on October 8. It will be Andrews's first game against Joventut since leaving the club. He posted solid number last season, averaging 14.6 points, 3.8 assists and 1.4 steals in 16 EuroCup games and led the competition in free throw percentage (98.4% FT) by missing just one of his 63 attempts.
Joventut beat Wolves twice last season, averaging 100.5 points against them. His matchup against top-class defender and former teammate Pau Ribas is one to follow closely in this interesting game.
Round 15: A strong atmosphere in Istanbul
Wolves and Besiktas Fibabanka Istanbul meet for the second consecutive season. Wolves scored a memorable 90-88 home win in the Lithuanian capital behind 31 points from Tre'Shawn Thurman and then Besiktas prevailed in Istanbul, 72-69 after limiting Wolves to just 23 first-half points.
With just three games left in the regular season after this one, Besiktas fans will make sure to create a strong atmosphere and help their team. It should be a key game in what promises to be a tight playoff race in Group A.
Round 18: Sulaimon and Buducnost come to play
Right at the end of the regular season, Wolves host Buducnost VOLI Podgorica in a game that should have a lot at stake. Buducnost brings with it to the Lithuanian capital Rasheed Sulaimon, who played for Wolves last season. Sulaimon averaged 18.2 points and 4.1 assists in eight EuroCup games last season.
With those numbers and no injuries, Sulaimon would have been second in the scoring race last season if he had played enough games. It should be interesting to see what Wolves in general, and Jeffery Taylor in particular, do to try to stop him in what could be a do-or-die game.
