


In a thriller that came down to the final shot, Gran Canaria advanced to the 7DAYS EuroCup Final for the second time in club history by downing Joventut Badalona 89-86 at Gran Canaria Arena on Wednesday. Gran Canaria remained undefeated at home in this EuroCup season (12-0) and is set to host Turk Telekom Ankara in the final on Wednesday, May 3. Joventut finished its EuroCup season with a 15-6 record.
Andrew Albicy led the winners with 17 points. Nico Brussino got 14, Vitor Benite added 13 on 7-of-7 free-throw shooting and Damien Inglis had 11 for Gran Canaria, which returns to the final for the first time since losing to Khimki Moscow Region in 2015. Andres Feliz paced Joventut with 21 points. Ante Tomic added 18 while Vladimir Brodziansky had 13 and Joel Parra 12 for Joventut, which lost the chance to reach the EuroCup final for the first time since lifting the trophy in 2008.
Tomic got Joventut going with a jump hook and Feliz added a put-back layup for a 0-4 lead. A.J. Slaughter and Brussino each struck from downtown to put Gran Canaria in charge, 6-4. Tomic dunked twice and Broadziansky scored down low for an 8-10 Joventut edge. Ferran Bassas and Benite stepped up for the hosts, then Inglis followed a three-point play with a jumper for a 18-15 Gran Canaria lead after 10 minutes.
Benite took over with a three-point play and Bassas struck from downtown to boost the hosts' lead to 26-17. Feliz rescued Joventut with consecutive layups and a three-pointer. Olek Balcerowski took over with a put-back slam and Inglis's triple gave the hosts fresh air at 31-26. Brodziansky and Kyle Guy each buried a three-pointer and got help from Simon Birgander to restore a 38-39 Joventut lead. Guy and Tomic kept the visitors in charge, 42-43, at the break.
Brodziansky made back-to-back jump hooks after the break and Parra added another one for a 46-49 Joventut lead. Brussino, Feliz and John Shurna each made a three-pointer, then Khalifa Diop's layup set a 54-52 Gran Canaria lead. Albicy bettered Feliz's jump hook with a three-pointer and added a close-range basket, getting help from Slaughter and Diop to boost the hosts' lead to 65-56 after 30 minutes.
Tomic scored down low early in the fourth quarter, igniting a 0-6 run that Parra capped with a turnaround jumper for a 65-62 Joventut deficit. Benite downed a mid-range jumper and Miquel Salvo added a backdoor layup, but Tomic and Guillem Vives kept the visitors within 71-68. Benite downed another jumper and Albicy beat the shot clock with a three-pointer that ignited the crowd, 77-70, with over 2 minutes left. Joventut was not done, as Parra, Tomic and Feliz got the guests within 85-83 with 14.0 seconds left. Brussino made free throws and Parra did better with a wild three-pointer, 87-86. Brussino returned to the line and made both attempts with 5.7 seconds remaining. Guy missed a running shot at the buzzer.
