Gran Canaria has rewarded head coach Jaka Lakovic with a new contract at the club, which should see him remain in charge until the end of the 2024-25 season. Lakovic has led Granca to top spot in Group A of the 7DAYS EuroCup, with the team having gone 12-3 through its first 15 games.

"[I want to express my] gratitude to the club for the trust and for the support in the decisions we have made, both on and off the court," said Coach Lakovic. "[This decision] has been very simple for me and my family. We are happy here on a daily basis, [as well as] with the people whom I work with and travel with."
Last summer, Granca took the decision to hire Lakovic as Porfirio Fisac's replacement, following the impressive job that the Slovenian did with ratiopharm Ulm. After guiding Ulm to the playoffs in 2021-22 with a record of 7-11, Lakovic's side caused a big upset by eliminating Joventut Badalona 73-79 on the road in the eighthfinals. So far with Granca, he has guided the team to the EuroCup's best record.
