Veolia Towers Hamburg often misfired from long range in their 98-91 overtime win against visiting Hapoel Vegan Friendly Tel Aviv, but dominating the boards proved vital as the home side came out on top thanks to a barrage of second-chance points.
The hosts collected 49 rebounds to Hapoel’s 39, and with the rivals locked on 28 defensive boards each, scooping up the ball in the opposition’s paint enabled the hosts to overpower Hapoel, who had looked the more likely winners after turning a 13-point deficit into a 10-point lead midway through the third quarter.
Hamburg struggled from behind the three-point arc as it sank 11 of 38 shots from downtown, while Hapoel made 9 of 24. But the home team buried its long-range efforts when it mattered as it gained the upper hand in the paint.
