Trento puts offense in Jordan Ford's hands

Dolomiti Energia Trento announced signing playmaker Jordan Ford for the upcoming season. Ford (1.85 meters, 26 years old) has split last season between the NBA side Sacramento Kings and G-League team Stockton Kings. In the NBA, Ford made six limited appearances posting 2.0 points per game, while in 38 game in the G-League he averaged 16.2 points on 43.6% three-point shooting, 4.3 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals.

Ford turned pro in 2020, after four years at Saint Mary's College of California. He played hi professional season with Clippers of Ontario in the G-League, before finishing the season in Greece with Peristeri Athens. He played in the 2021-22 with the Clippers of Ontario, and the season after with the Stockton Kings. He made his NBA debut last season, and the upcoming campaign he will make his BKT EuroCup debut.

Joventut signs versatile forward Kaiser Gates

Joventut Badalona bolstered its frontcourt by inking versatile power forward Kaiser Gates to a one-year deal, the club announced Friday.

Gates (2.02 meters, 27 years old) arrives from the Long Island Nets in the G League, where he averaged 11.3 points and 5.5 rebounds in 45 games last season. He started the 2023-24 campaign with the New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA, though he only took part in one game. Gates began his professional career with the Windy City Bulls in the G-League. He also played for Maine in the G League and Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem of Israel before joining Long Island in 2022. Gates was a member of the USA national team at the 2022 FIBA AmeriCup qualifiers.

Trefl adds guard Trey McGowens

Trefl Sopot strengthened its backcourt by inking guard Trey McGowens to a one-year deal, the club announced Friday. 

McGowens (1.90 meters, 24 years old) arrives from Edmonton Stingers, where he averaged 16.4 points on 46.9% three-pointers, 4.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists in eight Canadian CEBL League games last season. He played for three G League teams throughout the 2023-24 campaign: Raptors 905, College Park and Long Island. McGowens, whose brother Bryce currently plays in the NBA, helped USA win a gold medal in the 2023 FIBA ​​3x3 U23 World Cup, earning MVP honors. He is set to make his BKT EuroCup debut with Trefl next season.

Trefl Sopot will be making its long-awaited return to the BKT EuroCup this season. Nearly every game will have some special meaning as the club tries to cement itself as a rising force in continental hoops. Here are just a few of the key dates on the team’s calendar.

### Round 1: Ulm is the opponent for Sopot’s EuroCup return

When the bright lights shine down for the opening tip on September 25, Sopot will play its first EuroCup game since 2012! It’s been a well-deserved return as Coach Zan Tabak has raised the team’s profile by winning two trophies in his two seasons at the club, including the Polish League crown last season.

Opening the season in itself should be a reason for celebration and doing so at home against [ratiopharm Ulm](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/ratiopharm-ulm/roster/ulm/?season=2024-25), a respected EuroCup side from a neighboring country only adds to the excitement. Round 1 will mark the start of a new chapter in club history.

### Round 12: Coach Tabak and co. visit Badalona

Coach Tabak brings a wealth of experience with him, including playing the first two seasons of the EuroCup with [Joventut Badalona](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/joventut-badalona/roster/jov/?season=2024-25), where he played one season under Coach Aito Garcia Reneses and was a teammate of a young [Rudy Fernandez](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/rudy-fernandez/bmt/).

Tabak played professionally for three Spanish clubs and served as the head coach of five teams from Spain. The trip for Sopot to face Joventut for the first time is another historic moment for the club and it is only fitting that Tabak lead the way.

### Round 15: Ponitka and Bahcesehir come for a visit

From the moment it was announced that [Mateusz Ponitka](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/mateusz-ponitka/004172/) had signed with [Bahcesehir College Istanbul](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/bahcesehir-college-istanbul/roster/bah/?season=2024-25), there was some excitement in Sopot. In fact, the club even tweeted out the dates of their games against the captain of the Polish national team.

Naturally, the more exciting of the two fixtures will be the one in Poland in Round 15. It will also be Sopot’s penultimate home game in the regular season. If Sopot is going to make a run at a spot in the EuroCup Playoffs, this could be a critical contest.

Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv announced that point guard and team captain [Bar Timor](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/bar-timor/004846/) has signed an extension that will keep them together through the 2025-26 season. Timor (1.91 meters, 32 years old) enters his fifth straight season with Hapoel and his seventh overall. He averaged 9.3 points, 5.2 assists and 1.2 steals in 19 EuroCup games last season to help Hapoel reach the quarterfinals. He was fourth in the competition in assists despite making only seven starts. In the Israeli League, Timor contributed 11.0 points, 5.9 assists and 1.1 steals to help his team reach the finals.

A product of the Hapoel Haifa youth system, Timor also played for Hapoel Kiryat Tivon before his first stint with Hapoel Tel Aviv in 2011-12.  After two seasons in Tel Aviv, Timor went abroad to join ALBA Berlin, where he also made his EuroCup debut in 2013-14. He also helped ALBA win the German Cup. Timor’s next step was the Israeli capital. During six seasons with Hapoel Jerusalem, he won the Israeli championship twice in addition to a pair of Israeli Cups. Timor reached the EuroCup Semifinals with Jerusalem in 2017.

The Polish forward has spent the last five years playing in the EuroLeague, suiting up for Zenit St. Petersburg (2019-22), Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens (2022-23) and then Partizan (2023-24). He also appeared in the competition for Arka Gdynia (2012-13) and Zastal Zielona Gora (2015-16).

Best of Mateusz Ponitka: 2023-24

Ponitka returns to the BKT EuroCup for the first time since the 2018-19 campaign, when he played for Lokomotiv Kuban. That year, he averaged 9.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.2 steals as Lokomotiv made the EuroCup Quarterfinals.

Next season will be his fifth campaign in the EuroCup, as he previously represented Ostend (2013-15), Zastal Zielona Gora (2015-16) and Lokomotiv (2018-19).

Harper was a two-time All-Southeastern Conference selection at Auburn University, where he was a teammate of Hapoel center Austin Wiley for three seasons. 

He shuttled between the NBA and the G League in his first three professional seasons. He played for the Phoenix Suns and Northern Arizona Suns in 2019-20, for the New York Knicks and Westchester Knicks the following season and for the New Orleans Pelicans and Brimingham Squadron in 2021-22.

Hervey was the Sun Belt Conference player of the Year with the University of Texas at Arlington in 2017 before he was selected in the second round of the 2018 NBA Draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder. Hervey spent most of the next two seasons with the club’s G-League affiliate, the Oklahoma City Blue, though he appeared in 10 games for the Thunder.

Best of Kevin Hervey: 2021-22

He first came to Europe for the 2020-21 season with Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar. Hervey posted 12.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.9 steals over 17 EuroCup games to help Lokomotiv reach the quarterfinals. The following season, he joined Virtus as a preseason replacement for the injured Ekpe Udoh and also suffered a midseason knee injury himself, but was back in time to help Virtus in the playoffs en route to lifting the crown. Now he returns for a third EuroCup season eager to help Cluj reach new heights.

After a first-round exit in the BKT EuroCup Playoffs last season, Turk Telekom Ankara is back with a vengeance.

Erdem Can, the man responsible for guiding the club to the EuroCup Final in 2022-23, is back at the helm and he will be hoping to go one step better this time around.

With the 2024-25 EuroCup calendar now live, here are three Turk Telekom games that I am particularly looking forward to.

### Round 4: at Cosea JL Bourg-en-Bresse

The last two runners-up of the EuroCup will go to battle at Ekinox in the early weeks of the season as [Cosea JL Bourg-en-Bresse](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/jl-bourg-en-bresse/roster/bou/?season=2024-25) hosts Turk Telekom. Coach Can led Turk Telekom to a final appearance in 2023, losing to Dreamland Gran Canaria, and then Frederic Fauthoux did the same with Bourg last season before falling to Paris Basketball. Coach Can returned to Turk Telekom over the summer and has lofty aims for the team this year, while Coach Fauthoux will be eager to build on last season’s extraordinary campaign.

Given that Bourg was 11-2 at home last season it will be interesting to see if Turk Telekom can steal a win in France in Round 4, particularly as the visitors were 4-6 on their travels last year. Bourg also did the double over Turk Telekom in 2023-24, so revenge could be in the air.

Bourg try to cement its position in the postseason places with a visit from stuttering Turk Telekom, which strive to rejuvenate its season after losing five games in a row. Tyrone Wallace, who has scored double figures every game thus far, will be challenged by the in-form Zaccharie Risacher.

### Round 5: vs. Valencia Basket

[Valencia Basket](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/valencia-basket/roster/pam/?season=2024-25) is many people’s tip to win this year’s EuroCup title, but Turk Telekom has a chance to lay down a marker if it can defeat the Spanish side in the Turkish capital. New Turk Telekom center Kyle Alexander will be particularly keen to remind his former team about what they are missing as he goes up against Matt Costello and Ethan Happ in the paint.

One of the big successes of Turk Telekom’s 2022-23 season under Coach Can was that it was incredibly tough to defeat at Ankara Spor Salonu, so the club’s supporters have the chance to put on a show and inspire their team to a positive result as Pedro Martinez’s charges come to town. The last time these two teams faced off was in the 2018-19 campaign when Valencia managed to do the double over Turk Telekom. Will the Turkish outfit come out on top this time around?

 

### Round 18: at Aris Midea Thessaloniki

Turk Telekom has lofty expectations heading into the 2023-24 season and will be aiming to secure a playoff spot in Group B. Therefore, its final game of the regular season could prove decisive when it comes to home-court advantage in the postseason. With that said, a trip to take on [Aris Midea Thessaloniki ](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/aris-thessaloniki/roster/ari/?season=2024-25)will not be easy.

Aris has some of the best fans in Europe and certainly used that to its advantage last season, so Turk Telekom will need to drown out the noise as it looks to end its regular-season campaign with a victory. At this point, no one knows what the different permutations will be heading into Round 18, but Turk Telekom should prepare itself to enter the cauldron at Nick Galis Hall and try to slay an Aris team that will not make things easy.
