He roared once again with 10 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals in his team's 80-84 overtime road win at Buducnost VOLI Podgorica. Despite being a newcomer to the competition, [Trevion Williams](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/trevion-lamon-williams-/012604/) leads the 2023-24 EuroCup in rebounds (11.3 rpg.) and PIR (22.1), while averaging 14.3 points, 4.3 assists and 1.5 steals in 15 games. He has already had 10 double-doubles this season and is threatening the EuroCup record of 12 that Vladimir Golubovic set with Aykon TED Ankara Kolejliler in the 2013-14 campaign. Williams is not obsessed with stats; winning games is the only thing that matters to him, as he told Javier Gancedo of [EuroCupBasketball.com](http://EuroCupBasketball.com). "I have never been a guy that just looks at my stats and thinks about my stats," Williams said. "People tell me 'You are having such a good season'. I'm always so surprised, man, because I just show up for the game and I try to have fun with it. And like I said, as long as we have success I think I'm good."

**Hello, Trevion. Congratulations on beating Buducnost in overtime and making it to the playoffs. How important was it to stop that losing streak way ahead of the playoffs?**

"Thanks. It's definitely important for us, man. It's hard trying to find energy from different places, especially when you're on a losing streak like that. And I think we just went into desperation mode. We had to be desperate to win that game as a collective, and we know how important it was. We knew what was at stake. We also knew how the environment was going to be so we prepared ourselves well for that. And we got the job done."

**At age 23, you are leading the EuroCup in PIR and rebounds in your first season in Europe. Do you think that you caught some people by surprise?**

"Somewhat, yes. Because like you said, it's my first year over in Europe. But I don't think it's a surprise to me and people that know me. I try to be good at what I do. And I think what I do well is obviously pass the ball, but rebounding is a big factor for me. I think it's kind of what separates other bigs, the way you can rebound and just having a knack for where the ball is going to go off the rim. I think that's a skill alone. And that's something I try to be really good at. And that's kind of like the separation factor for me."

**What allowed you to adjust to European basketball so well? Did playing in a team-oriented college like Purdue help you adjust quickly?**

"Absolutely. I would just say European basketball as a whole is a different style of play from the NBA, especially in the G League as well. You are not just watching two guys just take all the shots, it's team basketball, which is something I love to be a part of. And that's definitely the difference. Especially with Purdue, there's similarities in that aspect as well. Our coach never recruited five-star athletes. He never went for those bigger names because usually guys like that, they don't play team basketball. Not to say I'm not a five-star caliber player, but at the time I was three-star, four-star, in some websites, I wasn't even ranked. So I've always had that chip on my shoulder of just being an underdog and just trying to be good at the little things."

**Ulm is a young, very ambitious team. You have a lot of teammates around your age and also younger. How cool is that?**

"It's definitely fun. It's very important to have guys around you that want to learn and want to get better. I think our younger guys,... I'm a young guy myself, but like you said, the guys that are younger than me, they come in, they bring energy. They are always willing to work and not only work, but have fun with it. You have to have fun in your work and the things you do because it is a long season. Sometimes it can become a mental game and you got to have that energy and the fun to kind of get you through certain things."

**I wanted to ask you about Juan Nunez. How is your connection with him and how is he off the court?**

"Off the court, he's very outgoing. He's our guy! He likes to sing out loud in the locker rooms and stuff and he's always the DJ. He plays the music in the locker room. He does a great job off the court of just connecting guys in that way. And like I said, he's a very outgoing, very fun guy. On the court, I will say... at the beginning of the season we are very similar in terms of playmaking. So for us, we have been trying to find a balance of just how to balance having the ball in our hands and just trying to play off the ball a little bit off of each other. So, like I said, it's a work in progress, and we are doing a really good job of balancing that out."

**You will play Aris at home, then Bourg on the road. How important is it to lock up that fourth place and get to play the eighthfinals at home?**

"Well, any team would want to start off at home, just having those at home. First of all, there's no fans like Ulm. They show up every game. They're super loud, they're energetic, and they clap whether we are down 15 or we are up 15. They are going to clap and support us, so it's definitely a special thing. It's really important that we get these two done. One game at a time, but I'm really looking forward to the Bourg game. We kind of dropped that one at home which was a really important one for us. But first, we got to take care of Aris and then take care of that one."

**This is your first EuroCup season. How do you like the competition and how did you become such a force so quickly?**

"My first season is going well, man. I'm enjoying myself. I love to try new things. This is a new experience for me, so I have just been taking it all in taking it one day at a time and mainly just being myself. I think if you're able to be yourself on the court, everything else will follow. I think a lot of times players try to be something or be a certain thing for a certain team, or everybody's looking to be the guy that gets all the touches. If you just be yourself and play your role and make sure everybody does their job, you will have success with it."

**Do you follow the other regular season group to check potential opponents? Do you watch a lot of EuroCup games outside of the video room and if not, which player in Ulm does?**

"I watch it here and there. I have seen Paris a lot, since I have seen a lot of people talk about Paris Basketball. So I have watched them a couple times. Pretty good team to watch, but I would say the guy that watches the most outside of our group is probably Tommy Klepeisz... He is probably the guy that watches all the games on the road and stuff like that."

**You work for a young coach like Anton Gavel. How much credit does he get for you and the team playing so well?**

"It's a special thing. Obviously, he's been through it. He's been through this level of competition, so he knows what it's going to take to be successful in this league. And it's been really special. I think one thing I've struggled with my entire basketball career is just being hindered and being limited on the corner of things I can do. So I would say back in college, like, I was never able to bring the ball up the court. I was never able to initiate the offense. I was never really able to shoot: not so much not able to shoot, but everybody had a role in the team and I didn't necessarily need to shoot, so I did what I did for the team. But just being here, he's allowed me to be free and just be the player that I am. He's allowed me to playmake and like I said, initiate the offense. It has been a really important key for us in terms of getting out in transition. You don't always have to look for the guard after getting the rebound. I can push it and we can go in transition, so it's been huge with him just letting me play free and be myself. And that way, I feel like for a long time, a very long time, I was hindered and limited in that way. So it's been special."

**By reaching the playoffs, Ulm's first goal has been achieved. With that in mind, what would make it a good season for you personally and for the team?**

"For me, it's just about winning. Obviously, the experience has been great so far, but  I think if we win, good things come with that, more eyes come with that. So I'm just looking at it that way. I have never been a guy that just looks at my stats and thinks about my stats. People tell me 'You are having such a good season'. I'm always so surprised, man, because I just show up for the game, and I try to have fun with it. And like I said, as long as we have success I think I'm good."

Slask will look to threaten from beyond the arc through Daniel Gobeliowski, who made 4 triples on that occasion and hit 3 in last week's loss to Gran Canaria.

Paris (15-1) will attempt to lock up overall top-seed status as it travels to face a Besiktas team (9-7) aiming to head into the postseason as high up the standings as possible. The French powerhouse is seeking a ninth consecutive victory but suffered its only defeat of the season against Besiktas in November when an outstanding defensive effort secured a shock 63-68 road win helped by 16 points and 10 boards from Matthew Mitchell. The Turkish team will need a similarly strong defensive performance to slow down the likes of Collin Malcolm, who has averaged 15.7 points in the last three games.

Prepare for a crunch-clash at the summit of Group A as unbeaten Paris are confronted by a Besiktas group situated just one spot behind. TJ Shorts and Nadir Hifi are the leaders for the French team, while the Turks are armed with the physicality of Angel Delgado.

Wolves are looking to finish the season on a high after Tre'Shawn Thurman paired 14 points with 8 rebounds to help inspire last week's big win at Reyer, giving recently appointed head coach Nedas Pacevicius his first victory. The Lithuanian team also defeated Hamburg, which has lost five games in a row, 71-84 in Round 8 behind a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds from Regimantas Minotas, who will be ready for battle with in-form Hamburg forward William Christmas.

Eliminated Reyer (6-10) will look to damage Prometey's (9-7) hopes of improving its current sixth position as they go head-to-head in Venice. Prometey has hit form at the right time with three wins out of four, including a high-scoring thriller, 105-113, against Hapoel last week. Ronald March inspired that success with 27 points, but it was big man Ondrey Balvin who proved pivotal with 15 points and 8 rebounds when Promotey powered past Reyer, 89-82, in November. Big man Amedeo Tessitori, who has averaged 15 points and 7.5 rebounds in the last two games, will look to control the tempo for the Italian team.

A key matchup at the top of Group A will see Joventut (10-6) attempt to maintain its hopes of a top-two finish with a visit from Hapoel (11-5), which currently occupies that spot despite losing three in a row. To secure the head-to-head advantage, Joventut needs to win by 5 points or more following a 103-99 loss to Hapoel in Round 8. Xavier Munford netted 31 points to outgun Andres Feliz (24 points) in that meeting and their backcourt battle will again be crucial. Munford is looking to extend a seven-game run of double-digit scoring, while Feliz had 20 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists in last week's narrow loss at Paris.

Injury-hit Badalona attempt to remedy consecutive home losses on-the-road at direct rival Hapoel, also bidding to restore winning ways afer disappointments versus Prometey and Paris, despite being loaded with a potent attack at 97.0 ppg - the second best in the competition.

Red-hot Turk Telekom (7-9) will attempt to take a big step closer to the playoffs by overcoming Bourg (13-3), which is desperate to hold onto first place in Group B. The Turkish team made it four wins in a row by downing Lietkabelis last week with a prominent role for newly signed big man Jarrod Jones, who faces a key matchup with Bourg center Bodian Massa this week. Bourg won easily, 86-67, when the teams met in November, but Turk Telekom has improved significantly since then and this should be a thrilling encounter as the French team looks for a 10th win in 11 games.

After finally earning its first win of the season last week, Cedevita (1-15) will look to upset a London team (11-5) which is still battling to secure a top-two finish. The English team gave those hopes a big boost last week by easily overcoming Besiktas behind 20 points from Matthew Morgan, but Cedevita's offensive power was very evident in its remarkable 83-114 thrashing of Hamburg. Jaka Blazic was the catalyst for that win with 24 points and he'll look to give Cedevita fans a first home victory to cheer at the end of a tough season.

In a first-ever meeting between the sides, fast-rising London aim for a third straight triumph as it entertains a forlorn Cedevita (0-7) collective still awaiting a maiden win in European competition for 23/24. Will this play to form with an English roar or is there to be respite at last for the Slovenians?

Aris has lost two out of the last three and needs a big night from center Silvio De Sousa to help recover its characteristic defensive toughness and stand a chance of claiming a road upset.

Yoan Moukoundou powered the Montenegrin team in that game with 23 points and 8 rebounds, and he'll be ready for another big battle with Paul Biligha, who came close to leading Trento to victory at Cluj last week with 12 points on perfect shooting from the field.

BKT EuroCup Stats review: Closing time

With two regular season rounds remaining, several things are set, like the list of teams headed to BKT EuroCup postseason out of Group A and Paris Basketball's place as the top overall seed. Others, however, are still up in the air, like which teams will claim the top and bottom seeds – and pretty much everything – in Group B. 

The table above gives a rundown of the current standings, team efficiency numbers, and remaining schedule for the teams that are still in the mix for a postseason berth in Group B. While there's a victories gap between third and fourth place, there's still a lot to be decided in the resulting clusters on either side of that line. 

The top matchup of Round 17 will feature U-BT Cluj-Napoca traveling to Dreamland Gran Canaria in a game that could be key to determining which of those teams ultimately takes second place and earns a bye to the quarterfinals in the new playoff format. Gran Canaria has the second highest-point differential in the EuroCup by a comfortable margin and beat Cluj by 22 in Round 8 meaning all the pressure will be on the visitors to not just come away with a victory in Round 17, but to win again in Round 18 to avoid the resulting trip to the eighthfinals. With Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse playing a Turk Telekom Ankara team fighting to hold their spot in the playoff picture and a ratiopharm Ulm team that may still be looking to lock down the fourth seed Round 18, it remains to be seen if their one-game cushion will keep them above the fray. 

The road to the final seeds in Group B will run through Dolomiti Energia Trento. While currently on the outside looking in, they'll face off with a Buducnost VOLI Podgorica team that almost certainly needs to win to keep their hopes to qualify alive before visiting the team they are looking to supplant for the final seed in Group B, Aris Midea Thessaloniki. The number of scenarios in play at the bottom of Group B should make for an exciting conclusion to the regular season.

There's much less drama to be found in Group A. The playoff qualifiers are already decided, but their order beyond Paris could still get fairly messy over the next two weeks – especially given how many games those teams will play against one-another. The London Lions are the only team in the top six that will avoid playing against another playoff qualifier over the final two rounds which may give them a critical edge over Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv for the coveted second-place bye. 

Joventut Badalona, Besiktas Emlakjet Istanbul, and Hapoel will all play two games against the rest of the top six. As a result, there could be a great deal of movement effecting eighthfinal matchups. Joventut is the hinge that could open or close the door to chaos. If they can avenge their Round 8 road loss to Hapoel at home in Round 17, it opens the door wide open for London while a loss would give Besiktas and Prometey Slobozhanske an opportunity for a late push out of the last two spots. 

With a lot of teams with a lot to play for down the stretch, it will be interesting to see who rises to the occasion in the regular season's final weeks.

Ellis, 20, fractured the fifth metatarsal on his right foot during an Italian League game against fellow BKT EuroCup side Umana Reyer Venice on Saturday. He will undergo surgery, after which a final timetable for his return will be established.

Ellis has averaged 8.9 points and 3.8 assists for a PIR of 11.2 in 16 EuroCup games this season, including 10 as a starter. He is one of the top candidates to win this season’s EuroCup Rising Star Trophy.

The London Lions took advantage of defeats by Hapoel Tel Aviv B.C. and Joventut Badalona to put themselves in a good position to secure a top-two finish in the EuroCup's Group A.

The London Lions boosted their hopes of achieving a top-two finish in Group A of the BKT EuroCup with [a comprehensive 93-72 home drubbing of Besiktas Emlakjet Istanbul](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/news/london-lions-rip-apart-besiktas-basketbol-93-72-to-boost-top-two-hopes/) in Round 16, coupled with defeats for their closest rivals, Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv and Joventut Badalona.

With two rounds remaining in the regular season, the results have set up a fascinating three-way battle for the runner-up spot and hence a bye in the first knockout round of the competition, when the playoffs start on March 5.

Hapoel shot itself in the foot in Round 16 with [a 105-113 home defeat to Prometey Slobozhanske](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/news/ec2324-rs16-report-hta-pmt/), which earned the visitors a playoff berth, while Joventut also did itself no favors when [it succumbed 89-82 at runaway group leader Paris Basketball](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/news/ec2324-rs16-report-prs-jov/) (15-1). Paris is already assured of an automatic quarterfinal berth, while Hapoel (11-5), London (11-5) and Joventut (10-6) are vying to join them in the last-eight picture.

The Lions outlasted Beskitas, 80-83 in the November 2023 showdown with a major role for Matt Morgan as he bagged 17 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. The guests are expected counter him with Jonah Mathews, who led the way with 22 points in a success over Hamburg and should play a big role again.

### A friendly schedule for London

As it stands, Hapoel is in the driving seat to cross the finish line ahead of London and Joventut, but the Lions appear to have a much easier task in the home straight. London visits bottom team Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana (1-15) in Round 17 and hosts Wolves Vilnius (6-10) in Round 18, with both its rivals firmly out of the playoff picture.

Hapoel is in the best position due to its better head-to-head record with London, as it beat the Lions 90-98 on the road in Round 5 before going down at home 96-100 on home court in Round 14. However, the Israeli side visits Joventut in a direct dogfight in Round 17 before the Round 18 outing at Besiktas, which is seeking a top-four finish and, with it, home-court advantage in the playoffs.

After the home game with Hapoel in Round 17, Joventut visits Paris in Round 18 and while last season’s semifinalist faces a pair of tough must-win fixtures, the Spanish team also needs other results to go its way.

Whatever the outcome, the Lions will be buoyed by its best home court performance of the season against Besiktas, having blown away the Turkish side in a captivating atmosphere generated by both sets of fans in the Copper Box.

A vast contingent of traveling Besiktas fans roared the visitors on from start to finish and their support was matched by the home faithful, with London head coach Petar Bozic expressing hope they would be just as relentless when the business end of the competition starts.

### Richard fueled Cluj to victory

[Patrick Richard](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/patrick-richard/011801/) scored 6 of his 11 points in the fourth quarter as U-BT Cluj-Napoca held on to an [88-83](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/game-center/2023-24/u-bt-cluj-napoca-dolomiti-energia-trento/U2023/158/) win over the visiting Dolomiti Energia Trento. Richard also collected 5 rebounds and 5 assists, in addition to have a team-high +16 in the +/- column. The last of the 3 triples he knocked down on 5 attempts put Cluj up 84-72, and that was the score when Richard left the game with just over 2 minutes to go. Trento went on a 0-11 run that made for a dramatic ending, but Cluj held on thanks to the margin it had established behind Richard’s play. With a win, Cluj remained in a race for a top-two finish in Group B and, with it, a place in a quarterfinals.

### Jarrod Jones signing is already paying dividends

In just his second game in a Turk Telekom Ankara jersey, big man [Jarrod Jones](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/jarrod-jones/006883/) was once again one of the key cogs in a win. Turk Telekom beat 7bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys [88-73](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/game-center/2023-24/turk-telekom-ankara-7bet-lietkabelis-panevezys/U2023/160/) to continue is playoff push, with Jones recording 13 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 assists. He had a team-high +24 in 33:45 on the floor, which was the second-highest total minutes-wise of anyone on the team. Turk Telekom needed a veteran big man to step up in the absence of Seven Enoch, but what is impressive about this contribution is the fact that this is Jones's only third appearance for Turk Telekom, having spent the first part of the season in South Korea. Turk Telekom is 3-0 since bringing in the 33-year-old veteran, who is in his sixth EuroCup season with a sixth different club.

### Wolves' Thurman did a bit of everything in Venice

Wolves Vilnius might have been eliminated from the playoff race in Group A, but they still went out on the road and beat Umana Reyer Venice in a resounding fashion, [57-75](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/game-center/2023-24/umana-reyer-venice-wolves-vilnius/U2023/155/).  In an appearance off the bench, [Tre'shawn Thurman](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/tre-shawn-thurman/012577/) was the facilitator of everything good for the Wolves. He spent just 24 minutes on the floor, the fourth most on the team, but still managed to lead his squad with 14 points and 8 rebounds. What's more, Thurman dished 4 assists and picked up 2 steals without committing a turnover. Thurman finished the game with a team-high 25 PIR, which is his second-best output of the season. It all led to Nedas Pacevicius getting a win in his first game on the Wolves bench.

Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana had to wait until Round 16 to grab its first victory, but at least its [83-114](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/game-center/2023-24/veolia-towers-hamburg-cedevita-olimpija-ljubljana/U2023/154/) mauling of Veolia Towers Hamburg meant the team would not have a winless season. One of the visitors’ key performers on the night was [Justin Cobbs](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/justin-cobbs/005969/), who also moved up the charts in a key category. The 32-year-old point guard finished with 16 points, 3 rebounds, 8 assists and 1 steal. Notably, Cobbs went 8-of-10 from the free-throw line, with his fourth make from the charity stripe seeing him overtake Bojan Dubljevic in second place all-time in free throws made. By the time the game was over, Cobbs had taken his total tally to 332 free throw makes, 5 ahead of the ex-Buducnost VOLI Podgorica and Valencia Basket big man. He still has some way to catch Errick McCollum in first, though, as he is way out in front with 480.
