Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse clinched a place in the 2024 BKT EuroCup Quarterfinals by downing Turk Telekom Ankara 64-68 in the Turkish capital on Wednesday. Bourg improved to 14-3 to remain first in Group B while Turk Telekom dropped to 7-10.

Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse clinched a place in the 2024 BKT EuroCup Quarterfinals by downing Turk Telekom Ankara 64-68 in the Turkish capital on Wednesday. Bourg improved to 14-3 and clinched first place in Group B later on Wednesday when U-BT Cluj-Napoca beat Dreamlife Gran Canaria. Turk Telekom dropped to 7-10. 

Bodian Massa led the winners with 13 points. Isiaha Mike added 11 for Bourg, which had five other players with at least 6 points. Tyrone Wallace led Turk Telekom with 16 points. James Palmer added 13 while Brandon Brown had 11 for the hosts.

### Bourg excelled on defense

Zaccharie Risacher got Bourg going with a dunk and Mike added a close-range basket for a 0-4 lead. Wallace stepped up for Turk Telekom, getting help from Ismail Cem Ulusoy and Palmer to give the hosts their first lead, 11-10. Massa hit back-to-back jump hooks and Max Salash scored down low to help Bourg regain the lead and extend it to 11-18 after 10 minutes.

### Visitors take off

Bryce Brown provided a highlight with an acrobatic layup and Massa's three-point play capped a 0-13 Bourg run. Steven Enoch followed a baseline jumper with a layup before Wallace's driving basket got Turk Telekom within 17-27. Salash kept pushing Bourg, Jeremy Morgan found his first points and Mike's jumper gave his team a 19-34 advantage. Axel Julien found Risacher for an alley-oop dunk and added a three-pointer to keep Bourg comfortably ahead, 24-39, at halftime.

### Turk Telekom fought back

JeQuan Lewis scored off a steal right after the break and Kevin Kokila kept the visitors comfortably ahead, 26-43. Wallace tried to change things for Turk Telekom and Palmer struck from beyond the arc to make it 31-46. Wallace remained unstoppable and Jarrod Jones's layup brought the hosts within single digits, 37-46. Massa and Mike rescued Bourg and then Salash hit a triple for a 39-54 score. Wallace and Brandon Brown brought Turk Telekom closer, 46-57, after 30 minutes.

Ulusoy scored off a steal and Jones followed a layup with a three-pointer, prompting Bourg to call timeout at 53-59. Palmer took over with a reverse layup which Brandon Brown followed with a jumper to get Turk Telekom within striking distance, 58-61, with over 4 minutes left. Lewis hit a free throw and Massa added an alley-oop dunk, giving Bourg fresh air at 58-64. Brandon Brown hit a jumper and added free throws to make it 62-64. Jones tied the game with foul shots. After Morgan split attempts, Palmer missed a mid-range shot and Lewis was fouled at 64-65 with 18.3 seconds remaining. He made free throws, Wallace missed from downtown and Morgan sealed the deal from the foul line.

Ronnie Harrell shined with 19 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 6 steals and 2 blocks for the winners. Vassilis Toliopoulos netted 17 points and Roberts Blumbergs had 11 points plus 7 rebounds in the victory. LJ Figueroa and Trevion Williams each scored 14 in a losing effort.

The visitors had no answers for Ulm's offense early on. Williams scored 6 points inside before Figueroa got hot, scoring 11 straight points, including 3 three-pointers to open a 19-11 lead. Toliopoulos answered with a three to get Aris's offense going, and after Pacome Dadiet knocked down a triple and a jumper for Ulm, Aris had a strong finish to the quarter with Harrell sinking a triple that made it 26-23.

After making 11 of 13 field goals in the first quarter, Ulm did not score a single point in the first 3 and a half minutes of the second and needed almost 6 minutes to score its first field goal. Aris used its defensive effort for a 0-8 run behind Harrell and Kris Bankston. A triple apiece from Harrell and Toliopoulos made it 31-39 before Tobias Jensen scored a triple for Ulm, the hosts' first field goal of the quarter. The teams traded baskets the rest of the quarter before Toliopoulos beat the halftime buzzer, banking a circus-shot triple to make it 40-49 at halftime.

After the break, Aris opened a double-digit margin through Nikolaos Persidis and Harrell, 42-53. After a dunk by Williams, Harrell's three-pointer sparked a 0-9 run, with a reverse dunk from Silvio De Sousa opening a 44-62 advantage. Aris did not stop there, but another basket by De Sousa and a triple from Toliopoulos made it 45-67 with 5 minutes to go in the third quarter. Ulm was without a field goal for the final 8:16 of the quarter, as Aris went up 46-69, and took 48-71 into the fourth quarter.

Karim Jallow scored the first 5 points of the fourth quarter, and Georginho De Paula added a second-chance layup to cut it to 55-71. Toliopoulos ended a 3-minute scoring drought for the visitors, but a tip-in from Williams closed it to 58-73 with 6 minutes to go. But Bankston and Johnathan Starks scored for Aris on back-to-back possessions, to quickly extend it back to 19 points. There was not coming back for Ulm, as Aris closed out the game.

It was Aris's largest road win of the season.

The London Lions beat Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana 85-92 in Round 17 of the 2023-24 EuroCup season.

London Lions still in running for top-two finish after 85-92 comeback win at Cedevita

The London Lions remained in the running for a top-two spot in Group A after coming back from 10 points down en route to an 85-92 victory at Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana in Round 17 of the 2023-24 BKT EuroCup season. London has won three of its last four games for a 12-5 record. Cedevita dropped to 1-16 on the season, including a winless 0-9 mark at home.

Matt Morgan paced London with 26 points and 6 assists, Luke Nelson scored 19 points and Conor Morgan chipped in 14 points in the victory. Cedevita’s Jaka Blazic scored 28 points in the loss and Karlo Matkovic added 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks.

Cedevita grabbed 5 offensive rebounds in the early going as it took an 11-3 lead, with Blazic scoring 7 points in that span. Matkovic moved to 6 points for Cedevita as the lead was 15-7. London trimmed the deficit to 2 points but trailed 20-13 after 10 minutes.

Cedevita continued to score consistently until Donte Grantham and Matt Morgan hit three-pointers to get London within 26-25. Cedevita scored the next 5 points as London failed to score for more than 3 minutes. Nelson and Matt Morgan hit back-to-back three-pointers to tie the game at 33-33. After a timeout, Gabe Olaseni’s layup gave London its first lead, 33-35, which was the score at the break.

Blazic drained 3 triples in 2 minutes to push Cedevita up 46-42 early in the second half. London coach Petar Bozic was ejected from the game thanks to two technical fouls in succession with 6:34 minutes left in the third quarter. Blazic added another three-pointer to extend the lead to 51-44. After assisting on a big dunk from Matkovic, Blazic hit his fifth three-pointer of the game and the advantage was double figures at 59-49. The Cedevita bench thought a timeout was called and came onto the court, leading to a technical foul. That led to London scoring the next 10 points to even the game and Matt Morgan scored to make it 62-63, which was the score after 30 minutes.

Cedevita scored the first 4 points of the fourth quarter to go back ahead 66-63. The game was close for a while with four lead changes and two ties as Cedevita went 77-72 ahead. Conor Morgan answered with a three-pointer and Nelson converted a four-point play to put London back in front, 77-79. Conor Morgan added a floater and David Nwaba drained a dagger corner three after an offensive rebound to make it 79-86 with 57 seconds left.

Gran Canaria missed a chance to lock up a top-two finish as it fell to 12-5 despite Nicolas Brussino scoring 30 points.

EuroCup Playoffs on the line when Aquila Basket Trento, KK Buducnost meet

With just two games to go until the end of the BKT EuroCup Regular Season, Dolomiti Energia Trento (7-9) and Buducnost VOLI Podgorica (6-10) know that any slip up now could be devastating. Only the top six teams in Group B will make the EuroCup Playoffs and, heading into Round 17, Trento is seventh while Buducnost is eighth.

The good news, however, is that Turk Telekom Ankara in fifth and Aris Midea Thessaloniki in sixth both share a 7-9 record with Trento and remain within reach for Buducnost. As such, [when Trento and Buducnost face off in Italy at 20:00 CET on Wednesday](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/game-center/2023-24/dolomiti-energia-trento-buducnost-voli-podgorica/U2023/169/), only a win will suffice in their search for postseason basketball.

### The impact of the other games

Two hours before Trento and Buducnost go to battle, Turk Telekom’s game at home to Group B leader Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse (13-3) will have tipped off, while Aris’s fixture on the road at fourth-placed ratiopharm Ulm (9-7) begins at 19:30 CET. 

Those two games will have a knock-on effect when it comes to Trento and, in particular, Buducnost, so there should be plenty of intrigue across the continent on Wednesday night. For Trento, it could capitalize on any potential slip-up by Turk Telekom or Aris and move into a playoff spot, whereas a Buducnost victory would see it enter Round 18 with everything to play for.

But, there is a catch. Buducnost needs to win by 2/4 points against Trento if both Turk Telekom and Aris are victorious in Round 17. Then, given that the Montenegrin side doesn’t hold the head-to-head advantage against neither Turk Telekom nor Aris, it needs to hope that one of the two comes unstuck in Round 18 and that it can also beat reigning EuroCup champion Dreamland Gran Canaria at home.

That said, a loss for Buducnost would see its dream of making the EuroCup Playoffs come to an end, but a Trento win coupled with defeats for Turk Telekom and Aris would see the Italian side book its spot in the postseason. Even in the event that Turk Telekom or Aris are able to win, a victory for Trento would result in an incredible showdown in Round 18 as the Italian side travels to Thessaloniki.

### The tale of the tape

Trento comes into its Round 17 game on the back of one win in three, [having most recently fallen 88-83 at U-BT Cluj-Napoca](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/game-center/2023-24/u-bt-cluj-napoca-dolomiti-energia-trento/U2023/158/) last time out. Buducnost is also looking to respond [after suffering back-to-back defeats](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/teams/buducnost-voli-podgorica/games/bud/?season=2023-24) to Aris and Ulm, which have damaged its playoff hopes.

When Trento recorded a statement 76-98 win at Gran Canaria in Round 12 and followed that up with a 76-70 triumph over 7bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys in Round 13, it had a 6-7 record and looked set to secure a postseason berth. However, by only winning one of its next three, which came in Round 15 against Slask Wroclaw, Trento has seen itself fall out of the playoff zone.

For Buducnost, it has blown hot and cold since the arrival of Andrej Zakelj. The head coach’s first game in charge was back in Round 8 as [Buducnost beat, curiously enough, Trento 98-96](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/game-center/2023-24/buducnost-voli-podgorica-dolomiti-energia-trento/U2023/79/) on the back of a 23-point, 8-rebound night by [Yoan Makoundou](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/yoan-makoundou/011935/). Then, the team went through a stretch of winning one before losing the following week until it reached Rounds 15 and 16, where it lost back-to-back for the first time.

Some bad news came for Trento on Monday, too, as it was confirmed that [guard Quinn Ellis will miss two to three months](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/news/trentos-quinn-ellis-sidelined-by-broken-foot/) after suffering a metatarsal fracture. Therefore, [Kamar Baldwin](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/kamar-baldwin/012597/) will be expected to keep playing at a high level in order to make up for his teammate’s absence. Trento will also hope that [Prentiss Hubb](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/prentiss-hubb/012595/) can rediscover his best form, having scored just 9 points across the last three games.

Buducnost, meanwhile, will lean on its guard tandem of [Yogi Ferrell](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/yogi-ferrell/011281/) and [McKinley Wright](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/mckinley-wright-iv/012606/) as it looks to fight to keep its season alive. Trademarks: The Cedevita Paradox II

Last season, Cedevita finished last in its EuroCup regular season group with a 3-15 record, registering the paradox of having the top-rated player in the competition, Yogi Ferrell, although the standings did not reflect that at all.

Nobody expected that things could get worse than that, but they did, creating an even bigger paradox this season.

Cedevita finally got its first win in the 2023-24 EuroCup last week on the road by 31 points against Veolia Hamburg Towers, establishing a club record with 114 points scored. Alas, that came long after the its season was already lost.  Combined with its five defeats to finish last season, Cedevita reached the second-worst losing streak in competition history, 20 games.

Hapoel Tel Aviv delivered at crunch time amid injuries and tough schedule

Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv made a big step towards a top-two finish in Group A of the BTK EuroCup after a smooth team effort produced [an 85-91 win at Joventut Badalona in Round 17](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/game-center/2023-24/joventut-badalona-hapoel-shlomo-tel-aviv/U2023/165/) of the regular season, with five players scoring in double digits.

Crucially, the return to action of J’Covan Brown and Jaylen Hoard helped Hapoel’s effort as the duo stepped up to the plate in the second half after they recovered from injuries in time for the clash.

Brown poured 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting from downtown and Hoard chipped in with 11, including a spectacular dunk which kept Hapoel in the driving seat in the wake of a Joventut fightback.

Hapoel carved out a 25-45 lead in the second quarter and extended it to 58-80 early in the fourth quarter, with Brown and Hoard taking over in the second half. They complemented the efforts of Will Cummings, the game’s top scorer with 19 points, as well as Xavier Munford, who netted 16 as Joventut cut the gap in the home stretch but fell short in its effort to turn the game around.

Head coach Danny Franco elaborated that it hasn’t been an easy ride for Hapoel this season, which has played EuroCup home games in Belgrade due to the conflict in Israel. The team was also ravaged by injuries, which made it difficult for Franco to count on a stable roster.

"We came out today with a lot of guys back from injuries and we arrived knowing we needed to produce a high quality performance against Spanish opposition," Franco told the post-game press conference. "My players came up big time and we really stepped up as a team. It’s a big win for us."

Hapoel play their last regular season game on the road at Besiktas Emlakjet Istanbul, with the fixture moved to Ljubljana’s Stozice Arena on the recommendations of the Turkish and Israeli governments. A win would seal a runners-up finish in the group and with it a bye in the first knockout round of the postseason, meaning direct passage to the quarterfinals. Franco hoped for a fit roster amid a grueling schedule, which has taken its toll on Hapoel.

"We will now make an effort to finish second. We’ve done a good job for much of the regular season," said Franco. "We weren’t always at our best because of injuries and our schedule was such that two days a week we were flying back and forth and two or three days a week we were playing."

“We don’t have enough time to work together as a team but we will try to beat another very good side next week."

Founded in 2022, Vilnius is currently third in the Lithuanian league behind powerhouse Zalgiris and city rival Vilnius Ritas, with victory over Hamburg likely to provide an impetus to keep pushing for domestic glory after the final EuroCup visit to London next week.

Tre’Shawn Thurman, who stood out against Hamburg with 19 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists, was in no doubt after the game that Wolves will benefit down the stretch from beating the German side.

“We did a really good job with our defensive assignments, guarding those guys,” Thurman said after the game. “We had a good game plan and followed it. Very important momentum-wise for us, for the rest of the season. For the morale in the locker room, it is important get better each and every day.”

Wolves's new head coach Nedas Pacevicius emphasized that every win matters, despite a somewhat flawed second-half performance against a battling Hamburg side.

“We made some tough shots and had some good stops,” he commented. “We weren’t at our best in the second half but a win is a win and it means something to us because we didn’t win so many games in the EuroCup this season.”

Hamburg head coach Benka Barloschky was pleased with his team’s effort although the German side dropped to 2-15 ahead of its final game at home to Umana Reyer Venice.

“I think we played a very good game overall but we let it slide a little bit for 2 and a half minutes in the first half,” he pointed out. “It got away from us but I was very satisfied how we played in the second half. However, it’s very tough to overcome a 14-point deficit against a shot-making team like Vilnius, with players like Thurman and Jeffery Taylor in their ranks.”

With a 2-15 record in the EuroCup this season, Hamburg has long since been out of the playoff picture. However, there will be pride to play for against Reyer, as the German team has a 0-8 home record and will want to avoid losing all of its home games in the competition this season.

There will be no playoff joy for Vilnius but a sound performance against Hamburg bodes well for its domestic challenge.

Umana Reyer Venice showed just how strong it can be with a near history-making third quarter in its 108-92 comeback win over Prometey Slobozhanske.

Umana Reyer Venice showed just how strong it can be with a near history-making third quarter in its 108-92 comeback win over Prometey Slobozhanske. Reyer trailed 45-57 at halftime and then unleashed a 38-14 third quarter to lay the groundwork for a win in the team’s last home game in the EuroCup this season.

It was the second-most points scored in a third quarter in EuroCup history, topped only by the 41-18 frame bye Unicaja Malaga against EWE Baskets Oldenburg on December 10, 2019. The 108 points meanwhile set a new club single-game scoring record after the team had won 106-96 earlier this season against Besiktas Emlakjet Istanbul in Round 14.

“I was very short at halftime. If you’re going to play defense maybe we have a chance. They scored 57 points in the first half and just 35 in the second half. So it was a different game. Also we did a little bit more offensively and that is the result,” said Reyer coach Neven Spahija.

The team’s stronger defense in the third quarter resulted in seven Prometey turnovers in the period. That came after the guests committed just 1 turnover in the first half and Prometey lost only one ball in the fourth quarter.

Reyer, which committed 15 turnovers, did quite a lot with those Prometey miscues as Prometey only had a 17-14 advantage in points off turnovers. Despite the great turnaround in the third quarter, Reyer did not grab a steal the entire game.

The victory was extra special for Kyle Wiltjer, who poured in 25 points in front of family. His father-in-law was spending his final day in Venice at the game after he and his wife had been visiting to help take care of Walter’s new baby, who is about 4 months old.

“I just wanted to give him a good game,” said Wiltjer. “My mother-in-law and him have been helping with the baby, so they are the real MVPs this last month. I had to have a special game for them.”

Reyer nearly set a competition record with 38 points in that stanza.
