### A testy home-opener

The first home game of the new EuroCup season is one that fans in the Turkish capital have been eagerly awaiting. Last season, on the way to the finals, Turk Telekom beat Buducnost twice. It was the first time the two teams squared off in 26 years, too. This time, Buducnost comes with big ambitions, aiming to bounce back right away. Turk Telekom knows well that being competitive at home against the strongest teams is a must from the start of the season and Buducnost is one of those strong teams.

### A final rematch

It's the rematch of last season's final in which Gran Canaria prevailed 71-67 to win the trophy. That win in the finals was the third time that Gran Canaria beat Turk Telekom last season. The side from the Turkish capital might have a new roster, with only two players left from last season, and only one who played in the title game, but this is still the clash of the two teams that battled it out for the crown earlier in the year and basketball fans all around had better be ready for this contest.

### Old foes meet again

For Turk Telekom and Aris this is a bit of a rivalry renewed. The two clubs have met six times entering this season, but this season will be the first time they meet in 15 years and the first time Turk Telekom hosts Aris since December 2008. There is always a little extra spice when clubs from Turkey and Greece lock horns, so expect some of that taste in this late-December clash, too.

7bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys has continued its preparations for the BKT EuroCup season by inking big man Alen Hadzibegovic, who can play as both power forward or center, and has already gathered plenty of experience in his young career, both in Europe and in Asia.

7bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys has continued its preparations for the BKT EuroCup season by inking Alen Hadzibegovic. The versatile big man (2.07 meters, 24 years old) who can play as both power forward or center, has already gathered plenty of experience in his young career, both in Europe and in Asia. Last season he played with Zastal Zielona Gora in Poland where he averaged 14.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.3 blocks in the Polish League action. He finished his season with Al Sadd Sports Club Doha in Qatar.

That was Hadzibegovic's fourth stint with Qatari League, and he also played on the Asian continent in the 2018-19 campaign with 10 appearances for Gifu Swoops in Japan's lower division.

The big man also spent two years with Runa Moscow in Russia, and had brief stints with Lovcen and Podgorica in his native Montenegro. Hadzibegovic will be making his EuroCup debut this season for a Lietkabelis team aiming to improve upon last season's elimination in the last 16.

Lietkabelis adds size with Hadzibegovic

Wolves Vilnius have found another experienced player for their BKT EuroCup debut, signing center Djordje Gagic to a one-year deal on Wednesday. Last season Gagic (2.10 meters, 32 years old) played in three different countries and on two different continents.

Wolves Vilnius have found another experienced player for their BKT EuroCup debut, signing center [Djordje Gagic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/djordje-gagic/004229/) to a one-year deal on Wednesday. Last season Gagic (2.10 meters, 32 years old) played in three different countries on two different continents. He split time between Blois Basket in France and Borac Cacak in Serbia. He posted 7.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 15 French League games, before finishing the season posting 10.8 points and 4.9 rebounds in 16 Adriatic League games. Gagic last played with Quatar Sports Club Doha where he dominated with 9.8 points, 11.3 rebounds and 11.3 assists in four appearances in Qatari Basketball League.

Djordje Gagic's top plays of the 2021-22 season

The Serbian big man is a veteran of two Turkish Airline EuroLeague, both with Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade between 2012 and 2014, and five EuroCup seasons. In his 54 Eurocup appearances he has career averages of 9.2 points and 4.8 rebounds. The last time he played in the competition, in 2020-21 in a jersey of a Lithuanian side 7bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys, Gagic averaged 10.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists.

Gagic has also played for Hemofarm Stada Vrsac in Serbia; Mornar Bar in Montenegro; Tenerife in Spain; Tsmoki Minsk in Belarus; Royal Hali Gaziantep, Yesilgiresun Belediye and Istanbul BB in Turkey; Aris Thessaloniki in Greece, Igokea in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brindisi in Italy. He is a two-time Serbian League champion, won the Serbian Cup twice and the Adriatic League in 2013. Gagic has also been a member of the Serbian national team, with which he won a bronze medal at the 2013 World University Games.

Aris adds Ronnie Harrell to the mix

Aris Thessaloniki continued building roster for its return to BKT EuroCup with the addition of small forward Ronnie Harrell, who signed a one-year deal on Wednesday. Harrell (2.01 meters, 27 years old) arrives from Ironi Nes-Ziona of Israel where he posted 9.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 steals in the Israeli championship last season.

That was Harrell's second year in Israel, after playing with Hapoel Galil Gilboa the previous season. He turned pro in 2019, starting his career in Romania with Steaua Bucharest before moving to Luxembourg to play with Etzella Ettelbruck where he dominated with 28.0 points and 9.9 rebounds in seven appearances. In 2020-21, he played with Palma in the Spanish second division, and ranked second in the league with both 16.1 points and 1.7 steals. Harrell is now set to make his EuroCup debut.

This season will be the fifth consecutive EuroCup campaign for Umana Reyer Venice and the club's sixth appearance overall. ### Erasing bad memories

Reyer's 2022-23 EuroCup campaign came to an end in Tel Aviv with a 90-80 loss to Hapoel in the eighthfinals and the returning Reyer players will be eager to get a second shot of winning in the Israeli metropolis. That game is the only meeting to date between these teams and serves as an opportunity for some sporting revenge and to measure themselves against a 2023 quarterfinalist. Visiting Tel Aviv is also always special for Coach Neven Spahija, who served as the head coach of Hapoel's crosstown rival Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv on two separate occasions.

### Protecting the home floor

Reyer’s last game of November could be a pivotal point in the season. The game against Hamburg not only wraps up the first half of the regular season, but also marks the first game of a two-game homestand – one of only two such back-to-back home stretches for Reyer all season. A win here could provide a key mid-season boost to help Reyer start the second half of the regular season in style. Reyer is 5-0 in the EuroCup in home games against German teams with wins against three different clubs.

Prometey swept the two regular-season meetings between these teams last season and the second of those games cost Reyer dearly. It was the regular-season finale, which the Ukrainian club took 93-76, with Reyer still on the hunt for home-court advantage for the eighthfinals. This game will be Reyer’s last home game of the regular season and could be a critical contest for both sides. For Reyer fans, a big win here over Prometey could be double sweet as it has the potential at this point in the season to play a significant role in the playoff race.

A familiar face is back in the BKT EuroCup with Dreamland Gran Canaria announcing the arrival of veteran swingman Sylven Landesberg on a one-year contract.

A familiar face is back in the BKT EuroCup with Dreamland Gran Canaria announcing the arrival of veteran swingman [Sylven Landesberg](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/sylven-landesberg/004160/) on a one-year contract.

Landesberg (1.98 meters, 33 years old) became a EuroLeague champion in 2014 during the early stages of his career with Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he eventually made 95 appearances in the top continental competition. The American averaged 6.0 points and 1.6 rebounds during those games, with a career best 9.7 points per game in the 2015-16 season.

After leaving Maccabi in 2017, Landesberg averaged 17.5 points and 16.9 PIR for Turk Telekom Ankara in the 2018-19 edition of the EuroCup, before spending the last four years in China with Zhejiang Golden Bulls, Beijing Royal Fighters and Shandong Hi-Speed Kirin.

Buducnost returns to Ratiopharm Arena, where it ended its 2022-23 EuroCup campaign. Buducnost advanced from the regular season but did not have the home-court advantage in its do-or-die eighthfinals showdown against Ulm, which prevailed 92-83 after rallying from a 17-point deficit. Even though both teams have brand-new rosters, Buducnost should have extra motivation in this game, especially its returning players.

Buducnost head coach Petar Mijovic returns to Wroclaw where he coached Slask at the start of 2021-22 season before he was dismissed even before the EuroCup season opener. Now, he goes back leading a highly-ambitious Buducnost, which swept the series against Slask last season, including a 40-point win in Wroclaw. The hosts would like a little revenge for that game, but Coach Mijovic would certainly love to leave Wroclaw with a win.

### Reigning champs come to town

These two foes have faced each other eight times in the EuroCup entering this season, all since 2010, and Gran Canaria has won all eight games. Last season, Buducnost welcomed Gran Canaria in the penultimate round of the regular season and the visitors ran through the Montenegrin capital with a 25-point victory. This time, Gran Canaria comes as the reigning champion in the final round. Trento completes roster with Prentiss Hubb

Dolomiti Energia Trento added the final piece to its roster for the upcoming season with combo guard Prentiss Hubb, who signed a one-year contract. Hubb (1.91 meters, 25 years old) arrives from German side Ludwigsburg where last season he averaged 15.4 points, 5.7 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 37 German League games.

Hubb had similar numbers in the Basketball Champions League action, posting 15.9 points, 5.4 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 8 appearances in what was his first professional season after four years at the University of Notre Dame. 

"Prentiss is a player with personality, quality and that pinch of flair and madness that I think will make our fans fall in love", Trento head coach Paolo Galbiati said about his team's final summer addition. Hubb is now set to make his BKT EuroCup debut in a Trento jersey.

### Lietkabelis gets perimeter threat in Sirvydis

7bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys has signed Lithuanian sharpshooter and the 2018 ANGT Finals MVP [Deividas Sirvydis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/news/lietkabelis-lands-sharpshooter-deividas-sirvydis/). The 23-year old sharpshooter spent last season in the G-League, splitting time between the Fort Wayne Mad Ants and the Wisconsin Herd in the G-League. In a total of 16 games, he averaged 10.4 points and 4.0 rebounds. Prior to that, he made 23 appearances over two half-seasons with the Detroit Pistons in the NBA. Sirvydis now returns to the EuroCup where he already had 35 appearances, having made his debut as an 18-year old with Rytas Vilnius. He will enter this season having made 40 of his 96 three-point attempts (41.7%) while averaging 5.7 points and 2.2 rebounds for his career, and gives Lietkabelis a dangerous perimeter threat.

### Aris inks American rookie duo

For its return to the competition, Aris Thessaloniki opted for an inexperienced but potentially dangerous duo who comes straight out of college basketball. First, the club added a presence in the paint with center [Manny Bates](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/news/aris-tabs-rookie-center-bates/), who played at Butler University in the 2022-23, and averaged 11.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in 25 appearances. Aris then doubled-down and added [Marcus Carr](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/news/aris-strengthens-backcourt-with-rookie-marcus-carr/) to its backcourt. This will also be the first professional season for Carr, a 24-years old who is as experienced as it can get for embarking on his first professional season, having spent five years playing college basketball. Last season at the University of Texas he posted 15.9 points, 4.1 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.6 steals. The two should provide Aris with loads of energy on the floor, and their youth could very well be the X-factor for the team in the upcoming campaign.

Coming off a debut in which he ranked fourth among Turkish Airlines EuroLeague shot-blockers, center Ben Lammers is looking to take ALBA Berlin higher in the 2021-22 season.

### The champs upgrade frontcourt

In one of the most resounding signings of last week, Dreamland Gran Canaria landed center [Ben Lammers](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/news/gran-canaria-lands-center-ben-lammers/). The 27-year old Lammers spent the last three seasons with ALBA Berlin, where he averaged 7.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.0 blocks over 81 EuroLeague appearances – including 53 as a starter. Lammers is fifth in the EuroLeague with 81 blocks over the last three seasons. He also won a pair of German League championships and one German Cup in his time in Berlin. In addition, Gran Canaria added [Roko Prkacin](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/news/gran-canaria-adds-talent-with-roko-prkacin/) to its frontcourt mix. Prkacin has played with Basquet Girona last season, posting 6.5 points and 3.7 rebounds playing 17 minutes per game in the Spanish League. Prkacin grew up with Cibona Zagreb and has been one of the most sought after young players on the continent ever since earning MVP award for leading Croatia to a gold medal at the U16 European championship in 2018. ### An MVP and other more experienced options

A quartet of teams opted to strengthen their respective rosters with more experienced players who are eager to prove themselves in the EuroCup. The only one who has previous experience in the competition is [Brian Angola](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/news/hapoel-brings-swingman-braian-angola-aboard/), the 29-year old signing of Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv, who has played one game with Partizan Belgrade in the 2020-21 campaign. Paris Basketball went the familiar route, signing the sixth player who played for Telekom Baskets Bonn last season, this time none other than [T.J. Shorts](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/news/paris-basketball-lands-champions-league-mvp-tj-shorts/), last season's Basketball Champions League MVP. ratiopharm Ulm inked a pair of newcomers, among them Basketball Champions League Americas champion and All-BCL Americas First Team guard [Georginho](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/news/ulm-inks-brazilian-international-georginho/).
