Flynn contributed 24 points on 6-of-8 two-pointers, 2-of-5 three-pointers and 6-of-8 free throws, along with 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals and 5 fouls drawn.

Montenegrin national team player [Zoran Nikolic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/zoran-nikolic/005357/) is set to don the [Buducnost VOLI Podgorica](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/buducnost-voli-podgorica/bud/) jersey once again.

Nikolic is a familiar face to the club’s fans, having represented Buducnost for many years and contributed to numerous successes. After three years away, he is returning to the blue and white ranks, ready to strengthen the team with his quality and experience.

The 29-year-old center joins after last playing for SC Derby, where he posted 11.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.0 block per game across 29 ABA League appearances.

Known for his toughness, solid defense, and excellent passing instincts, Nikolic is an important presence in the frontcourt. His presence in the paint will bring added stability and depth to the rotation – a valuable asset for the challenges ahead this season.

Nikolic played four times for Buducnost in the EuroLeague in 2018-19 and has appeared in 66 EuroCup games across five seasons, all of which were with the Montenegrin outfit.

“I don’t think we could have asked for a much better start,” said [Rasheed Sulaimon](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/rasheed-sulaimon/011150/) after the game. “Like Coach said in the locker room, we have high aspirations this year. From the guys who came back to the new additions, I thought it was a great performance. We played a great game and showed that defense can be our identity this year.”

Coming off a run to the EuroCup Eighthfinals last season, Buducnost is aiming to go further this time around. The performance in London was a promising first step.

Andrej Zakelj’s side set the tone early, holding the Lions to just 12 and 13 points respectively in the opening two quarters. Buducnost stayed aggressive throughout, forcing 15 turnovers and converting them into 17 points, many coming in transition.

“As we continued to raise the intensity on defense, I don’t think it’s a coincidence – that’s when we started to separate,” Sulaimon added.

[Nikola Tanaskovic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/nikola-tanaskovic/005637/) led the way with 13 points and praised the team effort:

Buducnost VOLI Podgorica opened its 2025-26 BKT EuroCup season with a comfortable 59-86 victory at the London Lions on Thursday night. The visitors dominated from the off at Copper Box Arena and led from start to finish, which allowed them to celebrate their first win of the campaign.

Nikola Tanaskovic bagged a team-high 13 points, with Skylar Mays, Axel Bouteille and Rasheed Sulaimon netting 12 each. Kameron McGusty paced London with 13 points, 9 of which were scored in the fourth quarter.

Buducnost opened the game with a 0-6 run, with all three scores coming from inside the arc. It took London 4 minutes to get its first bucket, with Joel Scott netting a corner triple. But the visitors dictated the tempo through their defense, with seven players getting on the scoresheet to secure a 12-20 cushion after 10 minutes.

Mays hit the ground running in the second quarter, drilling two triples and a couple of jumpers to open a 15-34 lead. Then, Fletcher Magee scored his first 5 points of the game and Dordije Jovanovic connected from deep as Buducnost maintained a 25-46 advantage at halftime.

Tarik Phillip scored the first bucket of the second half, but back-to-back triples from Bouteille restored a 30-52 lead. Aaryn Rai netted twice from beyond the arc before finding Deane Williams, who nailed one of his own, slightly cutting the deficit to 39-58. Yet, the guests ended the third quarter with a 2-8 run, taking a 25-point lead (41-66) into the fourth.

The game turned into an exchange of blows in the opening stages of the closing quarter, with a red-hot McGusty bagging 9 straight points before a Sulaimon triple made it 53-74 for the visitors. London tried to find the energy for a final comeback push, but Buducnost’s defense remained tight until the final buzzer, sealing the outcome in the English capital.

Ismet Akpinar netted 13 points for the visiting team and Kenan Sipahi added 11, including a clutch three-pointer which put his outfit in a commanding position in the fourth quarter. At the other end, Fatts Russel led Cluj on 21 points. Hapoel Jerusalem opened its 2025-26 EuroCup season with an 85-100 road victory over Hamburg on Tuesday. Khadeen Carrington had the hot hand early and led six Jerusalem scorers in double figures with 19 points. Jared Harper added 16 points, while big men Austin Wiley and Justin Smith netted 14 apiece. Wiley also collected 11 boards. Anthony Lamb contributed 12 points and Roi Huber scored 10 in his EuroCup debut. Eric Reed and Carlos Stewart led the way for Hamburg with 21 points each in defeat. Osaro Rich scored 10 and Zacharie Perrin grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

It was an all-around performance by Jones as he also amassed 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 1 steal. Ronnie Harrell, who returned to Aris this past summer, added 13 points and Stelios Poulianitis chipped in with 10. Reyer’s top scorer was Ky Bowman with 14 points, followed by Chris Horton with 13, and Kyle Wiltjer with 12.

Rubit, now 34, didn’t just fill a role, he imposed himself on the game when it mattered most. Coming off a quiet first half with just 5 points, the veteran forward erupted after the break to finish with 17 points and a game-high PIR of 22. He anchored a crucial 15–0 third-quarter run that flipped the game’s momentum and set the tone for [Lietkabelis’s 85–79 victory](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/news/lietkabelis-secures-surprise-home-win-over-besiktas-85-79/).

But beyond the numbers, Rubit’s poise and physical presence stood out. Facing a rugged Besiktas frontcourt featuring Ante Zizic and Ismael Kamagate, Rubit used quick footwork, smart positioning, and the kind of composure that only comes with experience. He drew fouls, found angles, and kept the offense steady down the stretch. In short, he looked like the leader Lietkabelis needed – and the player many wondered if they’d see again.

Rubit’s journey hasn’t been without setbacks. After launching his European career in Germany with Walter Tigers Tubingen, ratiopharm Ulm, and Brose Bamberg, he climbed the ranks to reach EuroLeague prominence with Olympiacos Piraeus, Zalgiris Kaunas, and FC Bayern Munich. At his peak in Munich during the 2022–23 season, he was named EuroLeague MVP of the Month for January, only to suffer a serious Achilles injury shortly after.

His move to Kuwait last season led many to believe his time at the top level in Europe might be over. But Rubit saw things differently. Signing with Lietkabelis this summer, he made his EuroCup return after an eight-year absence and immediately showed he still belongs.

After the game, Rubit spoke about what made the difference in the second half. Not his own play, but the team’s unity.

"I like the way we start together, come out and fall together," he said. "I think we gotta learn from that. That was the biggest thing – togetherness in the second half.”

Lietkabelis head coach Nenad Canak emphasized the importance of the win, but Rubit’s individual performance may prove even more significant in the long run. With his combination of experience, skill, and leadership, he gives the team not just a frontcourt presence, but an identity.

“What we need to understand quickly is the level of physicality in this competition,” Cancellieri said post-game. “I don’t think we struggled with our basketball, we struggled with how to approach this kind of game. It was the first one, so no worries for now, but this is a big lesson for us.”

“For many of our players, it was their first time playing in this competition. We need to bring a different attitude, and that only comes from experience at this level.”

Trento managed just 48 points on the night, unable to cope with Bourg’s aggressive defense. Costly turnovers and a lack of composure allowed the game to slip away early. Even more frustrating for the hosts, Bourg weren’t at their offensive best — but it didn’t matter.

Bourg’s [Darius McGhee](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/darius-mcghee/013859/) led the way, winning his individual battle with [DeVante Jones](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/devante-jones/013260/) and delivering an outstanding all-around performance. The 1.83-meter American poured in 22 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, and handed out 4 assists, sparking Bourg’s early momentum and helping his team bounce back from recent domestic struggles.

“I think we had a great game overall,” McGhee said. “From the coaching staff to the players, we really focused on the game plan and execution. This was a big improvement from our last performance.”

An early road win was a welcome boost for Bourg head coach Frederic Fauthoux, who praised his team’s defensive intensity while acknowledging there’s still work to do on the offensive end.

“A great victory, especially away from home, which is always difficult and special,” Fauthoux said. “Defensively, we did a very, very good job. That’s our identity. Now we just need to control the game better and find higher-quality shots.”

This victory not only ended a long wait but also marked Panionios’s return to the competition for the first time since 2014.

The last time Panionios won a EuroCup game was on December 11, 2013, when it triumphed 77-67 over Besiktas. Since then, the Greek club had been absent from the competition, but their return was nothing short of memorable.

"It’s a historic game for a historic club. Coming back to the EuroCup with Panionios after 11 years is incredibly exciting. And to start this journey with a win makes it even more special," said Panionios head coach Luka Pavicevic after the game. "We’ve been working hard to build a new team, and it was important to begin this chapter with a victory."

The win was especially meaningful for the passionate Panionios fans who filled the arena. "We’re so happy to get the win," said [Michalis Lountzis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/michalis-lountzis/006302/), who led the team with 20 points. "We knew how much it meant to Panionios to return to the EuroCup after all these years. We wanted to make it count. We gave everything."

Lountzis, 27, was instrumental in the win, not only with his scoring but also as the team’s most experienced player in European competition. He is the only current Panionios player with prior EuroCup experience, having averaged 6.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.6 assists over 10 games with Promitheas Patras during the 2020-21 season. Lountzis has also appeared in 52 EuroLeague games with Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens and Olympiacos Piraeus.

Five Panionios players finished the game in double figures, but it was [Jaylen Hands](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/jaylen-hands/013914/) who stole the show. With the score tied at 86 in the final 34 seconds, Hands nailed two crucial three-pointers – his first two of the game after a 1-of-13 shooting performance – sealing the win with a game-winning shot with 6.4 seconds left.

"Jaylen hit some massive shots, and that made all the difference," Lountzis said. "It was a great team effort, but those clutch shots were huge."

Despite his earlier shooting struggles, Hands remained confident. "It took a lot of energy, focus, and those two big shots from Jaylen to win this one," said Coach Pavicevic. "But this win is so important for Panionios, especially at this moment in time."

For Panionios, the victory represents not only a successful return to the EuroCup but also a hopeful start to what it hopes will be a promising new era in European competition.
