Surrendering a 16-point lead and seeing your opponent secure a seven-point cushion midway through the fourth quarter in a tight clash could deal a blow to morale to any team. Yet, [Bahcesehir College Istanbul](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/bahcesehir-college-istanbul/bah/) showed character, fought back and responded in the most emphatic way to win [a battle of runs at Dolomiti Energia Trento](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/news/late-run-allows-bahcesehir-to-beat-trento-69-73-and-advance-to-playoffs/) on Friday night, a win that sealed the Turkish side's place in the BKT EuroCup Playoffs.

Bahcesehir hit the ground running and took an early 4-20 lead, but Trento responded with a 10-4 surge that cut the difference to 10 points heading into the second quarter. The hosts tightened up their defense and held the Group A leader to just 14 points in each of the next two quarters, gradually chomping down their advantage. The guests led by 35-43 a couple of minutes into the third, but a 13-2 run saw Trento take its first lead of the game with just over 13 minutes remaining.

The Italian outfit maintained that edge in the closing quarter, when [Jordan Ford](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/jordan-ford/013270/) took over by netting 8 straight points to open a 67-60 lead halfway through the fourth. Yet, that wasn’t meant to be the last big run of the contest, as Bahcesehir responded with a 2-13 surge of its own fueled by [Jaleen Smith](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/jaleen-smith/011192/) to seal a narrow 69-73 victory.

Smith netted a total of 15 points, 5 of which came in the last 4 minutes, with [Tai Odiase](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/tai-odiase/011823/) recording the same scoring tally, which he paired with 6 rebounds. The Bahcesehir center stressed after the game that it was his team’s mentality on both ends in the closing stages that allowed them to turn the game around and escape with the win. 

“It was a game of runs,” Odiase noted. “\[Trento\] are a really good team. We know what they’ve done against big teams in our league. So, we just had to stay composed and down the stretch we did that and we got the win.”

“We had good energy. The last couple of games in the domestic league and EuroCup we didn’t start with great energy and gave up a lot of points. Today the defense was better. It wasn’t perfect but it was better. But our energy, chemistry and having our teammates’ backs was the key,” said [Kristupas Zemaitis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/kristupas-zemaitis/005516/), who led the way with 17 points.

Zemaitis had his best game of the season as he had totaled a combined 18 points in his last five EurpCup games. He was one of six Wolves players to score in double figures.

“We are for sure happy about the result of this game. It is for sure an important win. I was happy to finally have the complete roster to play,” said Magro.

Lithuanian international [Arnoldas Kulboka](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/arnoldas-kulboka/006180/) has now played five straight games – scoring 9, 12 and 10 points in his last three contests and getting a bit more playing time each game. [Jeffery Taylor](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/jeffery-taylor/006546/) returned to the court for the first time since Round 9 and also had 10 points.

Magro is excited to see what Kulboka can do for his team this season.

“I watch him every day and every game and every day he’s getting better and better. He’s strong enough to manage the load. He’s taking care of his knee. He’s not rushing too much. But he is able to play more minutes on the court each game,” the coach said.

“This is the kind of roster that I would like to see – picking the best lineups, offensively and defensively according to what we need in that moment,” Magro said. “We had six players in double digits, we had seven players who played more than 20 minutes but nobody played more than 25. This is the system I would like to rely on. I would like to thank my players because they knew the value of this game and they gave everything.”

[U-BT Cluj-Napoca](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/u-bt-cluj-napoca/clu/) showed just how good it can play as it [rolled past Veolia Towers Hamburg 104-83](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/news/cluj-crushes-hamburg-104-83-for-fifth-straight-home-win/) with a real team performance offensively, which also saw star guard [Zavier Simpson](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/zavier-simpson/013302/) finish the game scoreless.

Simpson missed his only 6 shots in the game but still dished out 7 assists and added 3 rebounds and 2 steals as Cluj shared the ball very well. All told, the Romanian powerhouse dished out 28 assists while shooting 12 of 22 on three-pointers for a blistering 54.5%. That was much higher than Cluj’s three-point shooting coming into the game – 32.8% for 11th in the league.

“Tonight, we played great team basketball,” said Cluj coach [Mihai Silvasan](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/u-bt-cluj-napoca/clu/silvasan-mihai/?season=U2024), whose team had five players score in double figures.

[Adam Mokoka](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/adam-mokoka/012698/) had 19 points, [Gediminas Orelik](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/gediminas-orelik/002012/) tallied 18 points, [De’Shawn Stephens](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/de-shawn-stephens/006618/) 16, [DJ Seeley](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/dennis-seeley/004862/) 15 and [Mareks Mejeris](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/mareks-mejeris/005714/) added 14 points. Simpson, for his part, came into the game ranked third in average PIR at 21.0 and scoring average at 18.2 points per game.

The defensive performant was definitely more to Silvasan’s liking after the team had given up more than 100 points in two of its last three games. Coming into the game, Cluj had been ranked 18th in points allowed at 89.9 per game.

“We were a little afraid of this game. Hamburg is not that bad of a team as the score shows. They had some good results this season, but we passed this game,” said Silvasan, whose team lost its last domestic league game after Christmas.

“For me, this game is already history. I am already focusing on the next game against Hapoel Jerusalem. It’s a home game and if we want to be in a playoffs spot we need to fight and try to win it.”

There are a lot of positives for Silvasan and his team to take from this game moving forward.

Jaleen Smith and Tai Odiase paced Bahcesehir with 15 points each and Tyler Cavanaugh paired his 10 points with 8 rebounds. For Trento, Jordan Ford led all scorers with 19 points, Anthony Lamb scored 15 and Myles Cale netted 12.

Cavanaugh opened the scoring with a dunk before two triples from Jaleen Smith and a three-point play from Odiase gave Bahcesehir a 2-11 lead. Andrea Pecchia and Axel Bouteille traded baskets, with Sehmus Hazer scoring off the glass for a double-figure cushion, 4-15. Toto Forray came off the bench to reach A. J. Slaughter in third place on the all-time EuroCup charts with 143 games played. The Trento captain scored inside after a triple from Mateusz Ponitka, but Saliou Niang responded with one of his own and Cale completed a three-point play that cut the difference to 12-20. Lamb extended Trento’s run to 10-0 with a midrange jumper, but Cavanaugh ended it by making 2 of 2 from the line before another couple of free throws from Ponitka restored a 14-24 lead heading into the second quarter.

Lamb netted a triple before setting up Cale for an open basket that trimmed the deficit to 19-25. Yet, Bouteille responded with two unanswered baskets inside, bringing Bahcesehir’s advantage back to double digits. Pecchia and Ford scored inside, but Marko Simonovic sank a corner triple and Smith nailed a jumper to make it 23-34. A Cale bucket was followed by a triple from Forray before a three-point-play from Ford allowed Trento to cut the deficit to 31-38 at halftime.

Pecchia opened the third quarter with a layup before a jumper from Lamb brought Trento within 35-40. Cavanaugh netted from beyond the arc, but a Cale bucket and a triple from Lamb cut the deficit to 40-43. Odiase took his tally to 11 points with a slam, but Niang responded with back-to-back baskets and Ford drilled a three for Trento’s first lead of the night, 48-45. An exchange of blows from the line was followed by a three-pointer from Cale and a layup from Lamb, who opened a 56-48 lead. Yet, Simonovic scored inside and Hazer nailed two free throws that trimmed the difference to 56-52 heading into the closing quarter.

Haltali and Smith netted inside to tie it, but Lamb knocked down a three to put Trento back ahead, 59-56. Then, Ford took over by adding 8 points to his tally, allowing Trento to open a 67-60 lead. Smith responded with a three-point play before a triple from Cavanaugh slashed the deficit to 67-66. Selom Mawugbe and Odiase traded scores inside before Smith netted off the glass to put Bahcesehir back in front, 69-70, with 1:28 minutes remaining. The visitors tightened up their defense and Hazer made 3 of 4 from the line to seal the victory.

In Turk Telekom’s 98-89 victory, Brown erupted for 8 three-pointers made and thus tied the EuroCup season high he set back in Round 7; the next best is 6 triples made, which has been done on nine occasions this season. He finished the night with 32 points, his second-best tally this season, and had excellent numbers with 4-of-6 two-pointers and 8-of-9 triples, having not gone to the free-throw line. Back in Round 7, he needed 10 attempts to knock down his 8 three-pointers.

“I feel good that we won. When I woke up this morning, to be honest I had a good feeling about today,” Brown told EuroLeague TV afterward. “Once the first one went in, it was over for me in my mind. I just stayed aggressive and I’m really happy we got the win.”

Turk Telekom has now won four straight games in the EuroCup to improve to an 8-5 record, which is the same as [Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/hapoel-bank-yahav-jerusalem/jer/) in second place in Group A. [Valencia Basket](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/valencia-basket/pam/) still has a comfortable lead at the top of the group with an 11-2 mark.

Wolves picked up a crucial victory to start the new year in fighting past Joventut 91-80 at home as it battles for a playoff spot. Wolves finally opened some space with a 10-2 start to the fourth quarter and now holds a 7-6 record in Group A with a 4-2 mark at home. 

Wolves survive back and forth, down Joventut 91-80 at home

Wolves Twinsbet Vilnius picked up a crucial victory to start the new year in fighting past Joventut Badalona 91-80 at home as it battles for a playoff spot. Wolves finally opened some space with a 10-2 start to the fourth quarter and now holds a 7-6 record in Group A with a 4-2 mark at home. 

Kristupas Zemaitis scored a team-high 17 points for Wolves, with Anthony Cowan collecting 15 points and 9 assists, while Garrison Brooks, Tre’Shawn Thurman, Arnoldas Kulboka and Jeffrey Taylor all chipped in with 10 points apiece. Joventut’s playoff hopes are slowly dying off with a 4-9 record, including 1-6 on the road. The Spanish side, which has lost four of the last five games, was paced by Ante Tomic’s 18 points, with Artem Pustovyi and Kassius Robertson both adding 12 points in the defeat.

The game was tight early, with Pustovyi scoring six points for the guests and Cowan picking up five points as Wolves were ahead 11-8. Joventut had a strong run and took the lead, 13-14, only to see Wolves move back ahead, but it was the Spanish side leading after 10 minutes, 17-18. 

Taylor came off the Wolves bench for two scores but Joventut was still up 23-25. Taylor knocked down a triple to finish a 7-0 spurt and Wolves was back ahead 30-25. Sam Dekker sparked the guests and it was 32-34. Robertson followed with two triples and Joventut was up 39-40 at the break. 

Neither team could really clear any space in the third quarter either. The biggest cushion was two points as the lead changed hands 17 times in the 10 minutes. Tomic scored 12 points in the period for Joventut while Thurman had eight points for Wolves, which led 66-64 after 30 minutes.

Zemaitis knocked down back-to-back triples to start the fourth quarter and Wolves added two more scores and the advantage was suddenly 76-66 with 6 minutes to play. Guillem Vives did hit a three-pointer for the guests, but Arnoldas Kulboka countered from deep and it was 81-71 with under 5 minutes left. Joventut held Wolves scoreless for more than 2 minutes but managed only two points. Cowan scored a layup and three-pointer to make it 86-73 with 110 seconds to go to decide the game.

Cluj started 2025 in impressive fashion with a 104-83 blowout of Hamburg to extend his home winning streak to five games. Cluj took control of the game with a 31-10 run in the third quarter to improve to 7-6 in Group B, including 5-2 at BTarena. 

Cluj crushes Hamburg 104-83 for fifth straight home win

Cluj started 2025 in impressive fashion with a 104-83 blowout of Hamburg to extend his home winning streak to five games. Cluj took control of the game with a 31-10 run in the third quarter to improve to 7-6 in Group B, including 5-2 at BTarena. 

Adam Mokoka paced five Cluj scorers in double figures with 19 points, Gediminas Orelik had 18 points, De’Shawn Stephens 16, DJ Seeley 15 and Mareks Mejeris added 14 points. Cluj didn’t even need Zavier Simpson as the EuroCup’s third-best scorer went scoreless, though he did dish out 7 assists. Hamburg could not build on its surprising win in the last round over Jerusalem, falling to 3-10 and 0-7 on the road. Kur Kuath tallied 14 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks, while Kenneth Ogbe scored 12 points.

Mareks Mejeris scored six early points to put Cluj ahead early, 9-5. Hamburg held the hosts scoreless for nearly 3 minutes and pulled ahead, 9-11, with six straight points. That was the first of four lead changes and Cluj held the guests scoreless for more than 2 minutes, with Seeley moving to 7 points for a 25-17 lead. Cluj’s advantage was 30-22 after 10 minutes. 

Camron Reece opened the scoring in the second quarter for Hamburg while Cluj failed to score for nearly 3 minutes. Hamburg could only cut the margin to 6 points and Cluj went on a 9-3 surge over more than 4 minutes for a 41-29 cushion. Stephens added two more baskets and Cluj went into the break up 45-35. 

Cluj had the lead at 12 points early in the second half but Niklas Wimberg and Ogbe both hit triples for Hamburg to make it 51-45. Mokoka stepped up for Cluj with 11 points, including two three-pointers and a massive dunk in a 25-7 run to lead 76-52. The margin grew to 27 points at 82-55 and Cluj led 82-56 after 30 minutes.

Sasu Salin drained two three-pointers in an 11-0 start to the fourth quarter to lead 93-56 and end any doubts. Hamburg could not get closer than 21 points the rest of the way - and that only because Cluj coach Mihai Silvason finished the game with his youngsters.

Anthony Brown was electric for Turk Telekom, finishing with 32 points after going 8 of 9 on three-pointers. Olivier Hanlan scored 23 points, of which 12 came in the fourth quarter, while Kyle Alexander added 13 points, having netted 5 points in the final 36 seconds. For Bourg, Xavier Castaneda had a team-high 18 points, followed by Joel Ayayi and Maksim Salash with 12 apiece, Brandon Paul with 11, and Adrian Nelson with 10.

Brown got Turk Telekom off the mark with a three-pointer, which would prove to be the theme of the first quarter. Adrian Nelson’s activity on the offensive glass was paying dividends for Bourg, with the forward scoring 5 points and Castaneda knocking down a triple as the visitors went 6-10 ahead. But a 10-0 Turk Telekom run that featured a couple of threes by Speedy Smith helped the visitors take a 16-10 lead. Bourg kept it tight, but when Brown struck from three-point land for the third time to make it 6 for 7 from deep for Turk Telekom, the hosts led 24-19. Hugo Benitez’s three made it tight at 26-25, but Hanlan’s two free throws ensured it was 28-25 after 10 minutes.

Maksim Salash had 5 points in the final 2:30 minutes of the first quarter, then converted a three-point play to tie things up at 28-28. Brandon Jefferson hit a couple of free throws to restore Bourg’s advantage at 28-30, but Hanlan, Ismet Akpinar and Brown all netted jumpers to make it 34-30. A Brandon Paul three and a perfect trip to the line from Kevin Kokila gave Bourg a 34-35 edge, before Castaneda responded to an Akpinar steal and layup to set a 36-37 score. Brown’s corner three, a big alley-oop slam from Makoundou, and a Javon Bess triple swelled the lead to 44-37. Bourg got as close as 44-42 thanks to 5 points by Joel Ayayi, and again at 46-44 following two made free throws by Castaneda, but Hanlan’s 5-0 personal run made it 51-44 before Castaneda split free throws to set a 51-45 halftime score.

Ayayi got Bourg going in the second half with 5 straight points, which cut the score to 51-50, but Brown’s three-pointer – his fifth on the night from five attempts – looked as though it was going to get the hosts going at 54-50. However, Castaneda scored 7 points in a 9-0 Bourg run that saw the visitors go 54-59 ahead, with the last two coming after an unsportsmanlike foul by Speedy Smith – his second of the game, which saw him head for an early shower. Alexander hit back for Turk Telekom by scoring 5 straight points to tie it at 59-59, and Brown later appeared with 5 points in a row to give the hosts a 67-64 edge. Nelson’s triple pushed Bourg back ahead at 67-69, but Brown scored from mid-range to make it 69-69 heading into the final frame.  

Bourg had the better start to the fourth after scores by Paul and Brandon Jefferson opened a 69-74 score, and despite a response from Turk Telekom, Nelson’s offensive rebound and finish gave the visitors a six-point margin at 72-78. Hanlan, who drained a three earlier in the period, netted another to make things tight at 75-78, then had a three-point play to make it 78-80. Turk Telekom youngster Melih Tunca had not played through the first three quarters, but he saw some fourth-quarter action and made a big impact with a three-pointer that restored the hosts’ lead, 81-80, before seeing another triple bounce four times before dropping, 84-80. Jordan Usher got his first points of the night, but Brown’s deep three – his seventh – made it 87-82. Brown then reappeared by hitting a contested three – his eighth – to give Turk Telekom a 90-84 edge. In the final 36 seconds, Alexander stepped up with offensive rebounds and points, netting 5 to help guide the hosts to a 98-89 win.

The Turkish outfit is comfortably in the playoff places while the French side is looking over its shoulder
