Promitheas Patras spent the majority of the game trailing against Gran Canaria, but at the end rallied to a 93-82 win on Wednesday night.

Even though Joe Young finished with 34 points, it seemed as though the hosts might never catch Gran Canaria which had Vitor Benite, AJ Slaughter and Nicolas Brussino all hitting timely triples and keeping the visitors with the lead.

With 4 minutes left, Promitheas still trailed 76-82, but little did we know that the hosts will scored  the final 16 points of the night.

Young started things, last week's MVP of the Round Arnoldas Kulboka hit a triple to tie it at 82-82, before team captain Nikolaos Gkikas hit a three-pointer that put Promitheas in front, 85-82.

After another defensive stand, Trevis Simpson hit his only field goal of the night, triple with 32 seconds to go, making it 88-82. Ensuing free throes from Michalis Tsairelis sealed the deal, only for Gkikas to finish things off with his fourth three-pointer on as many attempts, as Promitheas improved to 2-0 in Group B.

Germani Brescia picked up its first win of the season with a 104-70 drubbing of Prometey Sloboznaske. In the victory, six players scored 10 or more points and Brescia scored in triple digits for the first time in a EuroCup game, surpassing the previous mark of 91 points. It also set a new single-game club record for PIR (141), shattering the previous record of 101.

Brescia also tied its club record with 27 assists. Troy Caupain led the way with 18 points, and also had 5 assists, while Amedeo Della Valle scored 17 points while leading the way with 6 assists. Each Brescia player played at least 10 minutes, and each player scored at least 3 points in the big victory.

Hapoel Tel Aviv used some strong rebounding and excellent sharing of the ball to lock up its first road win in the 7DAYS EuroCup.

Hapoel outrebounded Paris Basketball 46-32, including a 14-8 advantage in offensive rebounds in an 86-100 victory to move to 2-0 in Group B. Coach Danny Franco’s team turned the offensive rebounds into 18 second-chance points compared to 11 for Paris.

Hapoel also played balanced basketball in collecting 24 assists with six players scoring in double figures led by J'Covan Brown with 21 and Jaylen Hoard with 16.

"We spoke before the game about trying to contain the tempo of Paris Basketball. At the beginning, in the first quarter, it was terrible for us. We watched video, but it’s not always easy to have the players feel how it is on the court. I’m happy we came back after that tough beginning of the game. And I am proud of my players that they reacted, that they were focused. There are a couple of tactical things we need to do in order to compete with the athleticism and skills that Paris has. I know we still have things we need to do. And when you play Paris, for them it’s a game of runs. You need to keep your focus. We got back and made some adjustments offensively. And mainly, with the amazing fans that came here with us and gave EuroCup such great color and environment, that kept our heads up even when Paris made their runs and it brought us energy.

"I think that period in the second quarter when they were getting stops and running out on us really hurt us. It was a great chess match. Both teams did an exceptional job of adjusting throughout the game. We’re missing Ammir Simms and also the player we signed hoping he could be available for this game, but he wasn’t. We found out last minute that he wasn’t available. But we’re very excited about getting Jeremy Evans involved as an injury replacement and when we’re healthy, we’ll be tough to beat."

Germani Brescia registered its first win of the season with a resounding 104-70 triumph over visiting Prometey Slobozhanske on Wednesday night. Both teams hold 1-1 records in Group A after a game in which Brescia used a 28-12 third quarter to break the game wide open.

Troy Caupain paced the hosts with 18 points and 6 assists and Amadeo Della Valle scored 14 of his 17 points in the first half. David Cournooh scored 14 points for Brescia, which had six double-digit scorers. DJ Stephens tallied 11 points and 8 rebounds for the visitors and Caleb Agada scored 10 in a losing effort.

Brescia started take control of the game when Della Valle and John Petrucelli hit back-to-back triples during a 10-0 run that put the hosts up 20-12. Prometey answered with consecutive threes from Clavell and Illia Sydorov, but Brescia remained in front. Della Valle had a pair of assists and a transition three-pointer to make it 36-26 in the second quarter, but Promtey finished the half with a last-second three-pointer, this time from DJ Stephens to cut it to 48-42 at the break. Brescia built a 58-47 lead midway through the third after David Moss and Caupain each nailed a three-pointer. Kenny Gabriel's corner triple and another one from Caupain helped open a 72-51 margin. The lead kept growing in the fourth, soon breaking a 30-point margin, as Brescia cruised to its first win of the season.

7Bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys recorded its first win of the 2022-23 7DAYS EuroCup season at the second attempt by defeating ratiopharm Ulm 80-76 at Cido Arena on Wednesday evening, but the victory was in serious doubt during the fourth quarter.

Midway through the third quarter, Lietkabelis had a 19-point lead and appeared to be in control of proceedings. But, bit by bit, Ulm chipped into the deficit and then, with 7:03 left in the fourth quarter, it took the lead. Ulm was now the team with the momentum and it had a three-point advantage with 3:58 remaining, but then appeared Kristian Kullamae.

The 23-year-old guard, who is in his first season with Lietkabelis, truly put his stamp on the final minutes of the game. First, with 3:20 left in the game, he stole the ball and immediately drove up court to score a tough reverse layup. Then, Kullamae got a crucial block on Ulm prodigy Juan Nunez, who attempted a shot from behind the arc. Nicolas Bretzel was able to tie the game up for Ulm at 70-70 with 2:18 remaining, yet Kullamae appeared again to drain a three-pointer and restore Lietkabelis's three-point lead. Lietkabelis would never trail again in the game, and it has Kullamae to thank for putting it in that position in the final stages.

Hapoel Tel Aviv improved to 2-0 in its debut season of the 7DAYS EuroCup by winning a shootout at fellow debutant Paris Basket.

After giving up 33 points in the first quarter, Hapoel set up the win by conceding just 10 points in the second quarter in a 86-100 road victory in Group B. J’Covan Brown flirted with a triple-double in tallying 21 points, 8 rebounds and 12 assists for the winners, who had four other players in double figures including Jaylen Hoard with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Tyrone Wallace scored 17 points to pace Paris, which dropped to 1-1.

Paris drained 7 three-pointers in the first quarter and built a 31-22 lead, which was 33-28 after 10 minutes. Hapoel slowed down the Paris shooters in the second quarter and reeled off a 2-11 close to the first half for a 43-55 lead.

The French side used a 12-3 spurt to get within 60-63 only to have Hapoel answer with the next 11 points and a 66-77 lead after 30 minutes. Paris had one more rally inside them in the final frame, trailing 70-83 but scoring 9 straight points to get within 79-83 only to have Hapoel push back with a 2-9 spurt.

Brown leads Hapoel to 86-100 win in Paris

Frutti Extra Bursaspor remained undefeated in Group A after beating Joventut Badalona 81-72 at Tofas Spor Salonu. It was Bursaspor's first EuroCup home game since last year's regular season. The team had played four playoffs game on the road and won three to reach the 2022 championship game.

Derek Needham led the winners with 24 points. Onuralp Bitim added 18, Ahmet Duverioglu had 12 and Yigitcan Saybir 11 for Bursaspor. Ante Tomic led Joventut with 16 points. Kyle Guy added 15 and Jarrod Jones scored 12. Joventut led 61-62 early in the fourth quarter but Needham rescued Bursaspor, gave it the lead and the hosts never looked back. 

Bitim made back-to-back three-pointers and soon added a 360 dunk for a 12-11 Bursaspor lead. Tomic and Jones helped Joventut regain a 17-22 lead late in the first quarter. Needham and Saybir fueled a 10-0 run that restored a 27-22 Bursaspor edge. Bitim remained unstoppable and David Dudzinski's three-point play made it a double-digit game, 39-27. Guy got Joventut closer, 47-39, at halftime. 

 

Needham took over after the break to make it 57-43. Guy kept pacing the visitors and got help from Tomic and Parra to put Joventut back in charge, 61-62, with 8 minutes left. Needham rescued Bursaspor in crunch time, giving his team a 74-70 edge with over 2 minutes left. Duverioglu and Bitim sealed the outcome down the stretch.
