Germani Brescia announced on Wednesday that it has re-signed forward Kenny Gabriel through the end of the 2023-24 season.

Gabriel (2.05 meters, 32 years old) averaged 8.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in 32 Italian League games last season, helping Brescia finish third at the end of the regular season. He started his career with Maccabi Ashdod of Israel and has also played for Proteas Danoi AEL Limassol of Cyprus, Taranaki Mountain Airs of New Zealand, AGO Rethymno Aegean and Panathinaikos OPAP Athens of Greece, Pinar Karsiyaka Izmir and Turk Telekom Ankara of Turkey, Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar of Russia, College Park of the G League and Mornar Bar of Montenegro before joining Brescia.

Gabriel helped Karisyaka win the Turkish League title in 2015, won back-to-back Greek crowns with Panathinaikos in 2017 and 2018, and added a Greek Cup with the Greens in 2017. He brings in plenty of EuroCup experience - Gabriel has played 57 games in the competition with Karsiyaka, Lokomotiv, Turk Telekom and Mornar Bar, during which he averaged 9.5 points and 5.0 rebounds.

Philipps (2.03 meters, 23 years old) arrives from ratiopharm Ulm, where he played in all the club's youth categories for the last 16 years. He averaged 4.0 points in four 7DAYS EuroCup games last season, his fourth in the competition. Philipps played for ratiopharm Basketballacademie Ulm, Orange Academy and Weissenhotn Youngstars before joining Ulm's first team in the 2018-19 season and made his EuroCup debut.

"Christoph brings good size and mobility for his position. In the past he had to fight against injuries, but he coped with these setbacks very well and motivated himself again and again. Simpson (1.93 meters, 30 years old) averaged 9.4 points on 42.9% three-pointers in eight 7DAYS EuroCup games last season, his first in the competition. He started the 2021-22 campaign with Brose Bamberg for which he averaged 8.9 points in nine German League games. Simpson started his career with another Greek team, VAP Kolossos Rhodes.

Last season, Simpson scored a season-high 17 points against Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse and made 5 of 6 three-point shots. 

Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse has strengthened its roster by inking forward James Palmer, the club announced on Wednesday. Palmer (1.96 meters, 26 years old) arrives from Arged BM Stal Ostrow Wielkopolski, where he averaged 15.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 33 Polish League games last season en route to helping his team win the Polish League title. He started his professional basketball career with Agua Caliente of the G League, joining Stal in 2021. Before that, Palmer finished his college career at the University of Nebraska, averaging 19.7 points in 36 NCAA games in the 2018-19 campaign.

"We were looking for a player capable of playing the 2 and 3 positions, with a fairly wide offensive range," Bourg head coach Frederic Fauthoux explained to the club's website. "James fits that description, and he had a quality first season in Europe after dominating in the G-League. He is a very talented player with a lot of character."

2022-23 7DAYS EuroCup Draw criteria and procedure

The first official act of the 2022-23 7DAYS EuroCup comes your way on Friday, July 8, with the annual draw to divide the 20 participating teams into two regular season groups. Follow live coverage starting at 13:15 CEST at the competition's official website as well as its [YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/c/euroleague), [Twitter](https://twitter.com/EuroCup) and [Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/TheEuroCup) channels.

The draw will be held according to seeds.

• The 20 qualified teams will be divided into 10 seeds with two teams in each, in accordance with the Club Ranking elaborated for this purpose.

• The performance of teams in Euroleague Basketball competitions during a three-year period will be used. Each club will get 2 points for a win and 1 point for a tie or loss from the Regular Season onwards. 2 bonus points are allocated for reaching the last 16, 2 bonus points are allocated for reaching the last 8, 1 bonus point is allocated for reaching the last 4, 1 bonus point is allocated for reaching the Finals. The Club Ranking consists of the sum of the club coefficients from the last three years. The results of the worst performing team from each country/League will be added together every year to create a position for that country/League in the Club Ranking. This is the lowest possible position that any club from that country/League can occupy in the draw.

• If two or more teams have the same Club Ranking, the tie will be resolved by the total number of wins during the three-year period. Should a tie persist, the final standings in the EuroLeague and if necessary EuroCup from the previous season will be used to break the tie. Should a tie persist, the final standings in the Domestic Championship from the previous season (after the playoffs) will be used to break the tie. Should a tie persist, a draw will be used to break the tie, with the Company determining the method for the draw.

• The first two teams from the Club Ranking participating in the Regular Season will be 1 Seeds, the next two 2 Seeds, the next two 3 Seeds, the next two 4 Seeds, and so on until the 10 Seeds are completed.

### GROUP DRAW RESTRICTION

The restriction when drawing the teams into groups is the following:

• Two teams from the same domestic league cannot coincide in the same Regular Season group, except when there are more than two teams from the same domestic league participating in the Regular Season. In this case, the draw will try to balance the amount of representatives in each Group until it is physically impossible to preserve the Group Draw Restrictions without blocking the draw.

### GROUP DRAW PROCEDURE

• Teams will be drawn one by one from an urn containing only teams in the same Seed, from the 1 Seeds through to the 10 Seeds, until all 20 teams have been selected.

• The first team drawn will be allocated in the Group A and therefore, the other team in the seed will be allocated in Group B.

• In case of a country restriction, either team can be directly allocated in one Group so the other team in the seed will be allocated in the other Group.

• A team may be placed directly into a Group to follow the restriction mentioned above.

Drawing the teams as explained above will eliminate all possibilities of a blocked situation.

ratiopharm Ulm and center [Nicolas Bretzel](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/nicolas-bretzel/007952/) have signed a contract extension  that will keep them together through the end of the 2023-24 campaign, the club announced on Wednesday. Bretzel (2.12 meters, 23 years old) averaged 5.0 points on 64.0% three-point shooting and 2.8 rebounds in 16 7DAYS EuroCup games last season. He had arguably his best game for Ulm in the quarterfinals against Virtus Segafredo Bologna, scoring 11 points and grabbing 8 rebounds in a losing effort.

Bretzel joined Ulm's U16 team before the start of the 2014-15 season and has since climbed up the ranks within the club's structure, playing for ratiopharm Basketballacademie Ulm, Orange Academy and the club's U19 squad. He made his first-team debut in the 2017-18 season, making his EuroCup debut against Dolomiti Energia Trento in that same season.

Lietkabelis, coach Canak one more season together

On Tuesday afternoon, Lithuanian club Lietkabelis Panevezys announced that it has reached an agrrement with head coach Nenad Canak to lead the team from the sidelines for one more season. Canak, 46, has coached Lietkabelis during the last three seasons. Last season, he led the team to a 9-7 record in the 7DAYS EuroCup regular season, but then fell in the single-game eighthfinals round against eventual champ Cirtus Segafredo Bologna, 75-67.

After a lengthy and successful playing career, Canak made his debut as an assitant coach with Mega Vizura of his native Serbia in 2013-14. He also held that position in BC Mega and then Partizan Belgrade two seasons before making his debut as head coach in 2017-18, also with Spartak Subotica. In December of 2017 he joined Partizan again as boss, and for the 2019-20 season he moved to Lithuania to start his stint with Lietkabelis, with which he reached the 2022 finals of the Lithuanian league and cup.
