Hamburg Towers have a new head coach after penning a deal with Raoul Korner until at least 2024, the club announced on Wednesday. Korner, 48, has spent the last season years with a fellow German League side Bayreuth, and now has signed a two-year deal with Hamburg.

"It was the conversations with the people involved that convinced me that Hamburg is the right location for me", said Korner, who replaces Pedro Calles at Hamburg's helm. "Where good people are at work, good things can happen. And in my opinion that is definitely the case here. The location has enormous potential and I would like to do my part to develop it to the full. I would like to help the organization to be successful in the long term and I expect a rocky, but very exciting way to get there".

Korner started his coaching career in the late 1990s at the age of 25 in his hometown of Vienna, Austria with BasketsClub. In the next decade he coached with Mattersburg, Traiskirchen and Wels, all in Austria, before moving on to Eiffel Towers Den Bosch in The Netherlands. In 2013, Korner moved to German side Braunschweig, where he also worked as sports director from 2014, before taking over the bench of Bayreuth. He is also serving as the Austrian national team head coach. Korner is now set to make his 7DAYS EuroCup debut as Hamburg is getting ready for its second campaign in the competition.

### Buducnost claims Montenegrin championship

Buducnost VOLI Podgorica won the Montenegrin League championship for the 14th time after defeating Mornar Bar 90-82 on Wednesday. Buducnost needed the maximum five games to take the best-of-five series. Kendrick Perry shined with 27 points and 6 assists to pace the winners, Filip Barovic scored 11 and Zoran Nikolic contributed 9 points, 7 boards and 3 blocks. Sead Sehovic paced Bar with 24 points, Aleksandar Lazic contributed 14, Marko Jeremic 13, Taylor Smith 11 and Strahinja Micovic 10.

Bar led 29-30 after Sehovic was fouled shooting a three-pointer and made the resulting free throws.  Five Buducnost players scored in a 13-0 run after that and a triple by Perry put the hosts up 13 before Lazic’s three-pointer trimmed the gap to 45-35 at the break. Bar started the second half on a tear with Jeremic leading a 1-9 rally to get within a basket. Back-to-back threes by Perry and Marko Jagodic Kuridza put the hosts back in control and it was 69-60 through three quarters. Bar scored the first 5 points of the fourth quarter and got within 74-73 before Popovic came through with clutch baskets to rescue Buducnost and Perry put the game and series on ice.

### Virtus drops opener in Italian finals

AX Armani Exchange Milan held off Virtus Segafredo Bologna 62-66 to take the opening game of the best-of-seven Italian league finals. Shavon Shields led the winners with 18 points, Luigi Datome added 13, Kyle Hines posted 10 points and 10 rebounds and Sergio Rodriguez scored 7 and dished 7 assists for the winners. Milos Teodosic produced 16 points and 6 assists for Virtus in defeat and Tornike Shengelia added 11 points and 7 rebounds. 

There was little to separate the teams in the first half, in which neither team ever led by more than 5 points. Milan held a 27-28 advantage at the break. Milan made its move with a 0-11 third-quarter run that Datome capped with 5 points to make it 32-45. Free throws by Shields maintained a double-digit margin, 40-50, at the end of the third. Teodosic came alive to halve the deficit and Shengelia got the hosts within 57-59. Ben Bentil and Datome helped Milan add to its lead and the visitors held on the rest of the way.

### Joventut loses to Barcelona in Game 3 of Spanish semis

FC Barcelona took a 2-1 lead in its Spanish League semifinals series against Joventut Badalona with a 77-83 road win. The series is a best-of-five affair. Nikola Mirotic scored 18 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to lead the winners, who never trailed. Corey Higgins added 13 points and Nicolas Laprovittola had 10. Ante Tomic paced Joventut with 21 points and 7 rebounds, Derrick Willis scored 17, Guillem Vives 13 and Pau Ribas 10.

Brandon Davies scored twice as Barcelona took a 0-6 lead, which grew to double figures on a Laprovittola three-pointer. The margin sat at 14-23 after 10 minutes. Vives and Ribas cut into the Joventut deficit early in the second quarter and Joel Parra made it 29-30. Back-to-back threes by Kyle Kuric and Mirotic gave Barca breathing room and Higgins made it 36-46 at halftime. Willis and Tomic rallied the hosts to 45-48, but they could get no closer and the score stood at 56-61 after three quarters. Free throws by Davies made it a 10-point margin, though Joventut continued to battle and got within 5 in the closing minutes. Tomic made it 74-77 with a minute to go, however, a triple by Nick Calathes all but sealed the victory.

Amar Alibegovic added to his family's legacy by helping Virtus Segafredo Bologna lift the 7DAYS EuroCup trophy 26 years after his father, Teoman Alibegovic, led ALBA Berlin to the Korac Cup.

Amar Alibegovic had to watch the EuroCup Playoffs from the sidelines due to injury. Nevertheless, during the regular season, he displayed a great mix of size, character, athleticism and versatility that helped put Virtus in position to win it all later.

He had a strong start to the season with 14 points and a PIR of 14 in 17 minutes in an 83-101 Round 1 victory over Frutti Extra Bursaspor. Alibegovic also had 14 points and a season-high PIR of 17 in Round 7, a 91-72 home win against Promitheas Patras. His trademark energy was something Coach Sergio Scariolo could count on at both ends of the floor.

Alibegovic averaged 5.3 points on 40.0% three-point shooting plus 2.4 rebounds for an average PIR of 4.3. He missed the most important games of the season but was there to celebrate with the entire team in front of a sellout crowd at Virtus Segafredo Bologna. A late bloomer, Alibegovic has thrilled EuroCup fans with his high-flying dunks and at age 27, he has a golden opportunity to make his Turkish Airlines EuroLeague debut next season with Virtus.

Aleksander Balcerowski averaged 8.1 points and 1.9 rebounds this season.

Ilimane Diop moved to Gran Canaria after spending his whole career at Baskonia.

Andrew Albicy was still one of the most solid passers in the league, at 6.2 apg.

Miquel Salvo had a solid EuroCup debut with 7.2 points and 3.8 rebounds.

In his second year at Gran Canaria, AJ Slaughter averaged 10.8 points.

Nicolas Brussino was back to Granca after three seasons away. He averaged 8.7 points.

Big man Artem Pustovyi was back in the EuroCup since 2014. He averaged 9.6 points and 4.2 rebounds.

John Shurna also averaged double digits in scoring, 10.8 points.

Khalifa Diop had a great debut season, earning the Rising Star award.

Dylan Ennis led all Granca scorers with 14.6 points, plus 3.5 boards and 2.6 assists.

Lietkabelis Panevezys lost all chances to win its first Lithuanian League title by registering a 79-76 road loss against Rytas Vilnius in Game 5 of their best-of-seven series. 

Domestic Leagues: Lietkabelis is Lithuania's runner-up

Rytas won the series 4-1 to conquer its first Lithuanian League title since 2010. Margiris Normantas led Rytas with 15 points. Gediminas Orelik led all scorers with 16 points. Gabrielius Maldunas and Nikola Radicevic each added 15, Kristupas Zemaitis 11 and Djordje Gagic 10 for Lietkabelis. Gagic, Radicevic and Orelik combined for all points in a 0-14 run which allowed Lietkebalis to keep a 17-23 edge after 10 minutes. Vytenis Lipkevicius struck from downtown to make it a double-digit game, 19-30, early in the second quarter. Maldunas and Zemaitis kept the guests fully in charge, 35-44, at halftime. 

Rytas rallied after the break and Lukas Ulecka's three-pointer brought the hosts as close as 61-62. Radicevic stepped up for Lietkabelis but Kenneth Smith and Normantas each struck from beyond the arc to complete Rytas's comeback, 67-65, with under 6 minutes left. Orelik and Maldunas made Lietkabelis regain a 75-76 lead with 55 seconds remaining. Ivan Buva and Ulecka each made free throws, and Orelik missed from downtown seconds before the final buzzer, allowing Rytas after to celebrate a Lithuanian League title.

[Fans](http://stretch.Fans) of Virtus can only ask “What if?” when reviewing Hervey’s season – his second in the 7DAYS EuroCup and first with the club. He was at his best when he led Virtus to a 90-84 victory over Umana Reyer Venice in Round 5 with a monster game. Hervey posted 26 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 blocks for a performance index rating of 31 and was then 12th in the competition in scoring and fourth in steals. However, he then suffered from a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee, underwent surgery and missed three months of action.

Upon his return, Hervey boosted Virtus where needed, whether through scoring, rebounding or defense, though he never fully regained the explosiveness from before the injury. Nonetheless, his self-sacrifice reflected the spirit of a championship team. Hervey marked his EuroCup return with 8 boards and 4 assists against Frutti Extra Bursaspor in early March and scored 13 points in 19 minutes against Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse in the regular-season finale.

He averaged 9.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.2 steals in 19:34 minutes over 14 appearances. Hervey scored at least 4 points in all four elimination round games. He added 3 steals in the eighthfinals against Lietkabelis Panevezys, corralled 4 rebounds in the semifinals against Valencia Basket and spent 17:17 on the floor in the final against Bursaspor, during which he tallied 3 boards, 2 assists and 1 steal. From a dominant start to a workmanlike finish, Hervey gave Virtus all he could to become a EuroCup champion.

[Nico Mannion](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/niccolo-mannion/011064/)’s first season in European competition did no go as planned, but it ended the way he hoped with Virtus Segafredo Bologna celebrating its 7DAYS EuroCup triumph.

Mannion was signed to become a key force for Virtus and there was great hope after he served as the assist leader and second-best scorer for the Italian national team at the Olympic Games over the summer. However, after that Mannion became ill with an intestinal virus that caused him to lose a lot of weight and miss all of training camp and the start of the season. Though Mannion recovered to become a role player, he never claimed the leading role that was expected of him.

For the season, Mannion averaged 2.1 points and 1.7 assists over 11:24 minutes in 16 games. He had season-highs of 5 points and 4 rebounds in Round 12 against Buducnost VOLI Podgorica and delivered 3 assists on 3 occasions. Mannion was called on for 10:06 minutes off the bench in the quarterfinals victory over Lietkabelis Panevezys and 3:10 in the quarterfinals against ratiopharm Ulm. Coach Scariolo sent Mannion onto the floor for the final 42 seconds of the championship game against Frutti Extra Bursaspor to be able to celebrate his team’s famous triumph on the court.

Although the season was fraught with disappointment from an individual point of view, Mannion showed glimpses of the talent that made him a star in high school and college. In Bologna, there is still reason to expect big things from Mannion, who has already captured his first continental trophy by winning the EuroCup.

A back-and-forth first quarter saw Barca ahead by 25-17 before Pau Ribas scored 6 points in a row to leave Joventut leading 26-27 after 10 minutes. Again Barca surged in front, 35-28, only to see Ferran Bassas and Ante Tomic give the visitors a 40-42 halftime advantage. Joel Parra and Andres Feliz sparked Jovenut's escape after the break to lead 46-59 midway through the third quarter and hold a 53-65 advantage when it ended. Barca got closer after that but never enough to challenge as Joventut evened the best-of-five series 1-1.

Tomic paced the winners with 24 points while Bassas added 13, Feliz 12 and Parra 10. Barca got 15 points from Nick Calathes, 12 from Dante Exum and 11 each from Nikola Mirotic and Alex Abrines.

DKV Joventut tied its Spanish League semifinals playoff series by downing host FC Barcelona 81-87 on Sunday in what was the visitors' first victory on the court of their cross-town rivals in more than seven years.
