Fourth-seeded Andorra will play either on the road against a fellow Spanish League side Gran Canaria or at home against Slask Wroclaw in the quarterfinals next week. Guided by new head coach Oscar Quintana, Andorra trailed for the majority of the first half before using a 10-0 run late in the third quarter to go in front. D.J. Seeley got Buducnost back in front 60-61 in the fourth, but Hannah hit 3 triples during a game-sealing 10-0 run. Hannah shot 6-for-10 from long range on the night and Codi Miller-McIntyre collected 12 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds in the victory. Seeley netted 25 points on 5-for-5 three-point shooting for Buducnost and Petar Popovic and Marko Jagodic Kuridza scored 11 apiece in a loss.

Hannah lifts Andorra over Buducnost, 74-64, and into quarters

The visitors used a 0-10 run in the fourth quarter to turn the tables and earn a 63-72 advantage entering crunch time that Joventut could not recover from. This was the first loss all season for Joventut at home and it cost the team dearly, while Ulm advanced to the quarterfinals for the second time in club history. Semaj Christon led the visitors with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for a PIR of 31. Jaron Blossomgame also scored 21 points and Sindarius Thornwell and Philipp Herkenhoff netted 12 points each and grabbed 9 and 7 rebounds, respectively. Derek Willis led the way for Joventut against his former team by scoring 17 points. Joel Parra and Pau Ribas followed with 13 and 11 points in the losing effort.

Willis started red hot with 6 of Joventut’s 8 first points to boost the home team to an early 8-4 lead. Even though Christon made it all square from long range soon after, the hosts found Joel Parra and Ribas to build a 14-8 edge after 6 minutes. Ulm reacted quickly after a timeout with Christon pulling the strings for a 16-16 tie that Karim Jallow converted into a 17-18 for the visitors at the end of the first quarter. 

 

Joventut tightened its defense, holding the visitors scoreless for 3 minutes and Andres Feliz and Brandon Paul took advantage of that to put the home team back in charge, 24-18. A four-point play in which Jallow provided a free throw and Blossomgame nailed a three off an offensive rebound made it 25-24. Parra took over on offense and scored 6 points to keep Joventut calm, 33-26, but a 2-6 run led by Per Guenther allowed Ulm stay in the game, 35-32, at halftime.

Willis opened fire from behind the arc and soon provided a free throw that Ante Tomic followed with a layup and a dish for Parra’s corner three that made it 44-36. Once again, Ulm prevented the hosts from escaping thanks to a triple by Herkenhoff, a three-point play by Blossomgame and a layup by Christon that reset the game at 44-44. Despite Blossomgame pushing Ulm in front, 46-47, Joventut counterattacked with Albert Ventura, Willis and Ribas combining to enter the last stanza ahead 54-51.

 

Herkenhoff and Ferran Bassas swapped threes to start the quarter. Then Willis took over with 4 points in a row to push the hosts to a 61-56 edge. Christon struck back and led a 0-6 run that sent Ulm in front once again, 61-62, midway through the fourth quarter. Blossomgame nailed a corner three and Herkenhoff completed a three-point play to extend it to 63-68 entering crunch time. The hosts got stuck on offense and allowed another jumper by Christon, who followed with a couple of free throws that built a 63-72 margin with 1 minute to go. Triples by Guillem Vives and Ribas allowed Joventut to dream, but Ulm just needed to secure some more free throws to confirm the outcome.

The first upset of the eighthfinals came in just the second game of the phase when ratiopharm Ulm won in Badalona. Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana and MoraBanc Andorra were able to hold on at home.

Cedevita stormed into the quarterfinals by thrashing Turk Telekom 93-80 at Arena Stozice in the Slovenian capital on Tuesday. Cedevita extended its winning streak to nine games and reached the quarterfinals for the first time in club history. It will face either Partizan NIS Belgrade or Frutti Extra Bursaspor in the quarterfinals. Despite the loss, Turk Telekom finished the season with a winning record (9-8) for the first time since the 2007-08 campaign (10-2). Jaka Blazic led the winners with 20 points and Alen Omic added 15 and 16 rebounds. JaJuan Johnson scored 16 for Turk Telekom in defeat.

Cedevita never trailed in the game and turned the game into a basketball party for the 8,000 fans in the stands. Cedevita took care of business before the break. Experts had agreed that the game rhythm was as important in this game as in any other series. Cedevita knew that and scored a club record 60 points before the break. Its previous best also came this season with 59 first-half points in Round 12 against another Turkish squad, Frutti Extra Bursaspor.

Cedevita took 19 two-point shots and made 13 of them (68.4%). It buried half of its 14 three-point attempts and drained 13 of 14 free throws (92.9%) in 10 trips to the line - six of them were shooting fouls. That means Cedevita had 39 chances to score in the first half, almost once every 30 seconds. It managed to find good shots everywhere and led by 22 at the break. Jaka Blazic and Jacob Pullen each scored 13 first-half points. Turk Telekom had more assists (11) than Cedevita (10) before halftime, but it was a matter of dominating the game tempo and the hosts did that to perfection; Olimpija had a PIR of 79 at the break.

Blazic matched Alex Perez's floater with a driving basket and Omic added a tip-in for an 8-2 score. After Clemmons struck from downtown, Ferrell found his first points. Octavius Ellis made a jumper to bring Turk Telekom within 11-7. Blazic sank a corner triple and Omic erased Clemmons's layup with a put-back basket. Omic and Ellis traded layups and Blazic's three-point play made it a double-digit game, 21-11. Dragic took over with back-to-back fastbreak layups and Pullen hit from beyond the arc. Clemmons and Can Ogut drew Turk Telekom within 29-16 after 10 minutes.

 

Pullen hit a floater and Ferrell sank a three-pointer that broke the game open, 34-16, early in the second quarter. Dawkins tried to change things with a tomahawk dunk and a shot from downtown, but Pullen and Ferrell kept Cedevita ahead, 39-21. Gulaslan stepped up for Turk Telekom and Clemmons made a triple to bring the visitors within 45-31. Blazic rescued Cedevita and Muric improved on Ellis's slam with a three-pointer. Clemmons and Dragic traded triples before Omic scored in the paint for a 55-36 Cedevita lead. Dawkins took over with an alley-oop slam that Blazic improved on with a three-point play. Pullen extended Cedevita's lead to 60-38 at halftime.

Ferrell sank a floater soon after the break and Muric dunked off a steal for a 62-40 Cedevita lead. Dawkins tried to change things with a three-pointer, but Omic answered with a tip-in and Dragic scored in transition to restore a 68-43 Cedevita lead. Dragic euro-stepped to get a wild three-point play. Johnson buried a baseline jumper and Omic's jump hook gave his team a 73-46 margin. Johnson and Ellis tried to change things for the guests, but they didn't find much help. Auguste ignited the crowd with an alley-oop slam, Melvin Ejim buried a fadeaway jumper and Blazic struck from downtown to give Cedevita an 80-52 cushion after 30 minutes.

 

Cedevita slowed down the game tempo early in the fourth quarter. Johnson buried a couple of jumpers and added a layup to bring Turk Telekom closer. Gulaslan sank a corner triple off a Cedevita timeout to give the visitors a bit of hope at 80-61 with 6 minutes remaining. Dawkins capped a 0-14 Turk Telekom run with a three-pointer, as Blazic answered with a jumper to make it 82-64. Johnson sank a couple of mid-range jumpers and got help from Gulaslan and Can Ogut to bring the guests closer, 86-73, with less than 3 minutes remaining. Blazic dunked off a steal to seal Cedevita's win in style!

One of the key matchups, when Gran Canaria hosts Slask Wroclaw on Wednesday, will be between the hosts’ point guard Andrew Albicy and his counterpart Travis Trice.

Major matchup: Gran Canaria’s Albicy vs. Slask’s Trice

Albicy sets the tone for the Gran Canaria defense with his aggressive on-the-ball defense and raids of the passing lanes. He was the regular-season leader in steals with 1.8 per game and was fifth in assists with 6.3 per contest. An All-EuroCup First Team selection in 2019 after he helped MoraBanc Andorra reach the semifinals, Albicy combines great play at both ends with big-game experience and he will be expected to lead Gran Canaria on Wednesday and going forward.

Trice did it all for Slask this season, leading the team in scoring with 14.6 points per game and ranking third in the competition with 6.6 steals per game. Most offenses will start with the ball in Trice’s hands as he looks for the best scoring opportunities whether for himself or teammates. It will be tougher this time with Albicy at the other end, which makes this matchup critical to the game’s outcome.
