Lietkabelis extended its home-court winning streak to five games as it rolled to a 93-78 victory over Partizan in Group A. Lietbelis took control of the game with a 20-0 run to start the second quarter for a 20-point lead as it improved to 7-6 - and 5-2 at Cido Arena. Gediminas Orelik and Djordje Gagic led the way for Lietkabelis with 21 points each. Partizan, which could not get closer than 13 points the rest of the way, lost its fourth straight on the road to fall to 9-5.

The tight Group B race got even tighter as Promitheas stopped visiting Ulm 79-68 on Tuesday to sweep their season series. Promitheas raised its last-place record to 4-9 while sixth-placed Ulm dropped to 6-8. Jerai Grant powered the winners all night with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Dimitris Agravanis followed with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Semaj Christon led Ulm with 17 points.

The score was tied with 4 minutes remaining before Valencia took charge with a game-closing run to win 77-88. The victory lifted Valencia’s record to 10-4 and put it atop Group B – at least temporarily. Klemen Prepelic paced the winners with 18 points on 5-of-11 three-point shooting, Xabi Lopez-Arostegui scored 17 and Martin Hermannsson tied the club record with 12 assists. Rasheed Sulaimon scored 17 for Bourg, which fell to 5-9.

Cedevita continued its climb up the standings as it raced past Buducnost 92-78 at home for its third straight win in Group B. Cedevita ripped away control with a 31-10 run spanning the second and third quarters for a 22-point advantage. Cedevita improved to 6-7 thanks to Jaka Blazic scoring 23 points and Alen Omic collecting 19 points and 8 rebounds. Justin Cobbs scored 21 points with 6 assists, but they were not enough for Buducnost, which lost for the fourth time in five games to drop to 8-7.

Round 14 of the 7DAYS EuroCup began with four Tuesday contests in which Lietkabelis, Promitheas and Cedevita all defeated teams ahead of them in the standings.

Valencia Basket took charge down the stretch and outlasted Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse 77-88 to move atop Group B.

Promitheas came into the game averaging 14.2 turnover per game, higher than all but two other teams, one of which was Ulm (15.2). But while the Promitheas defense made sure that Ulm reached its average and more, with 16 turnovers, the hosts had by far their best assist-to-turnover game of the season.

Telling numbers: For Promitheas, ball safety paid off

Promitheas dished 22 assists to just 7 turnovers, for a 3.1-to-1 ratio that was the fourth-best in the entire EuroCup so far this season. Dimitris Agravanis dished a career-high 8 assists, but was responsible for 3 of the turnovers. Kendrick Ray matched those 8 assists and lost the ball just once in almost 28 minutes. Their teammates only committed 3 more turnovers while their collective defense made 7 steals on the balls lost by Ulm, for whom nine different players had at least one turnover. 

That's how Promitheas was able to lose the rebounding and free throws wars, get matched at the three-point line and suffer more blocked shots but still led Ulm by 23 points early in the fourth quarter before holding on for a 79-68 win in Group B on Tuesday.

Lietkabelis Panevezys has found a new recipe for success - which fits right in with its home country’s national identity. 

Telling numbers: Lietkabelis wins again with three-point shooting

The Lithuanian club made double-digit three-pointers in its fourth straight victory as it rolled past Partizan NIS Belgrade 93-78 at home. Gediminas Orelik knocked down 5 of Lietkabelis’s 11 triples in improving to 7-6, including five straight wins at home.

Lietkabelis has now drained at least 11 three-pointers in its last four wins, including a club-record 19 against Boulogne Metropolitans 92. Lietkablis shot 45.8% from long range against Partizan and Coach Nenad Canak’s team has connected on at least 40.7% of its three-pointers in the last four wins.

The club from Lithuania, a country which is known for its shooting prowess, made either 8 or 9 three-pointers in its other three wins as well. Lietkabelis twice lost games when it made more than 10 triples - falling 84-77 against Partizan in Belgrade with 14 three-pointers and 96-100 against Hamburg Towers with 13 triples.

Lietkabelis Panevezys extended its home winning streak to five games as it rolled to a 93-78 victory over Partizan NIS Belgrade in Group A.

Lietkabelis stuns Partizan 93-78

Lietbelis took control of the game with a 20-0 run to start the second quarter for a 20-point lead and improved to 7-6 - and 5-2 at Cido Arena. Gediminas Orelik and Djordje Gagic led the way for Lietkabelis with 21 points each. Vytenis Lipkevicius chipped in 14 points and Kristupas Zemaitis had 11 points. Partizan, which could not get closer than 13 points the rest of the way, lost its fourth straight on the road to fall to 9-5. Kevin Punter paced Partizan with 20 points, Rade Zagorac tallied 16 points and Yam Madar scored 12 points in the loss.

Partizan opened the game with the first 5 points, including a three-pointer from Rade Zagorac. Djordje Gagic scored Lietkabelis’s first points and Orelik knotted the game with a triple. He drained another three-pointer in the hosts’ 14-3 run to pull ahead 14-8. Orelik foul shots increased the margin to 18-10. Partizan finally started to score more consistently with Punter scoring 10 straight points for Partizan to even the game 24-24 after 10 minutes.

Lietkabelis started the second quarter with the first 20 points, including three more triples from Orelik and one from Dovydas Giedraitis for a 44-24 advantage. Partizan could not get anything going, committing 7 turnovers and failing to score for the first 7 minutes until Balsa Koprivica’s dunk. The cushion grew to 48-26 and was 53-37 at intermission thanks to Punter’s long three-pointer at the buzzer.

After Gagic’s free throws started the second half, Punter buried a triple and Zach LeDay’s jumper got the visitors as close as 55-42. Kristupas Zemaitis, Lipkevicius and Panagiotis Kalaitzakis all hit three-pointers in a 13-4 answer and the advantage swelled to 68-46. Mathias Lessort came up with a three-point play for Partizan but Lipkevicius hit another triple to start a 10-0 spurt as the lead extended to 78-49. Partizan ended the quarter on a high note to make it 80-55.

Partizan scored the first 4 points of the final frame. Kaspars Berzins continued the team’s good shooting night with a three-pointer and Zemaitis’s free throws made it 87-58. Madar tried to help Partizan make it look more respectable with a pair of three-pointers among 10 points to get within 91-78 with a minute to play.

Promitheas raised its last-place record to 4-9 while sixth-placed Ulm dropped to 6-8 as it travels for a makeup game against Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana on Thursday. Ulm dropped to 6-8 in sixth place. Jerai Grant powered the winners all night with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Dimitris Agravanis followed with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Trevis Simpson added 11 points, Mihaljo Andric and Kendrick Ray 10 each. Semaj Christon led Ulm with 17 points while Fedor Zugic added 14, Philipp Herkenhoff and Jeron Blossomgame 13 each. Promitheas held Ulm to 3 free throws made over the first 6 minutes after halftime to lead by 20 points, 58-38, after three quarters. Ulm rallied to get within 5 points twice in the fourth quarter, but Ray helped close the door down the stretch.

Christon got the visitors' scoreboard rolling and kept it going with 5 more points for a 4-7 lead in which he did all of Ulm's scoring. Grant and Agravanis combined to shoot Promitheas in front, 10-9, despite a tip-in from Herkenhoff. Abdul Gaddy and Simpson upped the Promitheas edge to 14-9 but Zugic got much of that back for Ulm on a four-point play. When Simpson answered from the arc and Agravanis scored inside, however, it was 19-13. Zugic downed a layup and Herkenhoff free throws to keep Ulm within 19-17 after 10 minutes. 

Thomas Klepeisz ended 2 scoreless minutes of the second quarter by tying it up 19-19 for Ulm, but that seemed only to spark the Promitheas. Suddenly, Agravanis fed Grant for a dunk, Nikolaos Rogkavopoulos downed a triple and a fastbreak layup, and Grant finished another transition to send the hosts up 30-21. Karim Jallow stopped the bleeding for Ulm, but Grant matched him and Gaddy supplied the first double-digit lead, 34-23. Nicolas Bretzel's block sprung Christon for a layup and soon the guard assisted the center on the break to cut the difference to 34-28. Ray scored inside to leave a 36-28 halftime difference.

Grant lobbed to Agravanis for the second half's first basket then Ray fed Grant for a dunk and a new double-digit difference, 40-29. Blossongame calmed Ulm with free throws, but Grant matched him and Andric buried a corner triple as Primitheas soared to its biggest lead yet, 46-31. Grant dunked again and Ulm's first field goal of the second half finally fell with 4:00 left in the third quarter, courtesy of Jallow, but the visitors got no momentum. Grant soon dunked anew and Rogkavopoulos made it a 20-point lead, 56-36, from deep. Andric and Blossomgame traded baskets as Promitheas led 58-38 after three quarters.

Simpson's triple to open the final quarter meant a new high lead, 61-38. Herkenhoff tried for the visitors and Zugic struck from deep to lower the deficit to 63-48. Christon added free throws and Blossongame scored inside for Ulm to suddenly cut it to 63-52. Simpson and Zugic traded triples before the latter fed Herkenhoff to get the difference to single difits, and Christon added a technical free throw at 66-58. Christon kept it going with a second-chance triple at 66-61 but Andric matched him with 2:45 to play. Zugic hit free throws at 69-63, but Ray dropped a layup and a floater in response for a 73-63 difference with 1:40 left, which shut the door on the visitors.
