In a thriller that went to overtime, Promitheas Patras recorded its first win in Group B by rallying to down Frutti Extra Bursaspor 83-80 at home on Wednesday. Promitheas improved to 1-3 in the standings while Bursaspor dropped to 2-2.

Jerai Grant led the winners with 18 points. Charis Giannopoulos, Kendrick Ray and Nikolaos Rokgavopoulos each added 14 while Dario Hunt had 10 for Promitheas. Allerik Freeman led Bursaspor with 20 points. Derek Needham added 19 while David Dudzinski got 11 points and 16 rebounds for the guests. Freeman had 7 first-quarter points as Bursaspor took a 12-19 lead. Dudzinski and Egemen Guven stepped up for the guests as they went up 30-40 at halftime. The hosts found a go-to guy in Hunt, who got plenty of help from Ray and Dimitris Agravanis to bring Promitheas within 51-53 after 30 minutes. Giannopoulos had 9 points early in the fourth quarter to put Promitheas ahead, 60-57. Bursaspor bounced back and Metin Turen dunked to force overtime, 68-68. Grant and Ray made the difference down the stretch.

Andrew Andrews got Bursaspor going with a floater and Freeman struck from downtown but Rogkavopoulos and Grant soon gave Promitheas its first lead, 7-5. The same duo scored around the basket but Freeman and Anthony Brown kept Bursaspor ahead, 11-12. Kevarrius Hayes dunked and Brown added a three-point play, getting help from an unstoppable Freeman to boost the guests' margin to 12-19 after 10 minutes. 

Hunt stepped up for Promitheas early in the second quarter but Dudzinski hit a jump-hook and Needham struck from beyond the arc at 14-24. Giannopoulos answered with a backdoor layup and Isaiah Miles with a triple to get Promitheas within 19-26. Guven and Dudzinski scored for Bursaspor in a 0-7 run that restored a 19-33 advantage. Grant and Ray tried to change things for the hosts and Agravanis hit a running hook at 28-35. Dudzinski's reverse layup followed by Metin Turen's three-pointer meant a 30-40 Bursaspor lead at halftime. 

Freeman downed his second triple soon after the break and got help from Guven to give Bursaspor a 30-45 margin. Rogkavopoulos answered from deep and Grant added an off-balance jump-hook but Dudzinski's triple kept the guests way ahead, 35-49. Grant scored again, then Ray, Utku Omer and Rogkavopoulos each downed a three-pointer for a 44-53 score. Hunt followed a dunk with a layup and Agravanis buried a three-pointer that brought Promitheas back to life, 51-53, after 30 minutes. 

 Abdul Gaddy kept Promitheas going with a jumper early in the fourth quarter but Brown gave Bursaspor fresh air at 53-57. Giannopoulos came on with an off-balance three-point play that he improved to a four-point triple-plus-free throw that completed Promitheas's comeback at 60-57 with over 6 minutes left. Giannopoulos kept pacing the hosts with a layup and a bomb from beyond the arc at 65-59. Giannopoulos fed Hunt for a three-point play but Bursasport was not done. Needham followed a layup with a triple and Freeman scored in penetration for a 68-66 score. Turen dunked to tie the game, 68-68, with 46.0 seconds remaining. Agravanis and Ray missed respective shots at the end of regulation, leading to overtime.

Grant scored first in the extra period and Agravanis soon added a layup for a 72-68 Promitheas lead. Needham and Ray traded bombs from beyond the arc, then Freeman answered with a driving layup to keep Bursaspor within 75-73. Ray hit free throws and Grant added a three-point play to boost the hosts' lead to 80-73 in the next-to-last minute. Needham hit a triple and Freeman scored off a steal but Ray and Rokgavopoulos sealed the outcome from the foul line.

Promitheas Patras recorded its first win in the current 7DAYS EuroCup season and once again, one of its main pillars was up-and-coming small forward Nikolaos Rokgavopoulos, who continues impressing everyone in his first season in the competition.

Rokgavopoulos barely missed a double-double with 14 points and a team-high 9 rebounds. He added 2 assists, a steal and 3 fouls drawn for a PIR of 21. He buried 3 of 6 shots from beyond the arc, making him 12-for-21 from downtown (57.1% 3FG) this season. Rokgavopoulos, age 20, is averaging 13.0 points and 7.3 rebounds, good for a PIR average of 18.8.

Promitheas Patras trailed for almost all of the first 33 minutes in its Round 4 home game against Frutti Extra Bursaspor, which still led 53-57 with 8 minutes remaining. The hosts needed a go-to guy and found one in Chris Giannopoulos, who singlehandedly fixed the problem. 

Pivotal performer: Giannopoulos made the difference

He took over with an off-balance basket-plus-free throw and then converted a wild four-point play. Giannopoulos followed a layup with another triple and fed Dario Hunt for a three-point play. His efforts allowed Promitheas to get back in the game and eventually win it. He finished the game with 14 points, 4 rebounds and a PIR of 17. 

Gran Canaria opened its Round 4 game against Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse with a 21-1 run in which Dylan Ennis did a little bit of everything. 

Ennis has an amazing start

He scored the game's first 10 on free throws, back-to-back three-pointers and a layup. Ennis soon added another fastbreak layup and a wild three-point play. In the opening 6 minutes, Ennis had 15 points on 3-of-4 two-point shooting, 2-of-3 from downtown and 3-of-3 on free throws plus 5 rebounds, a block and a foul drawn for a PIR of 20. Ennis stepped up with the early heroics, allowing Gran Canaria to overcome injuries and register another victory.

Promitheas Patras and Frutti Extra Bursaspor needed overtime to decide the winner. When the dust settled, Promitheas had registered an 83-80 win, its first of the 7DAYS EuroCup season.

Assists lead Promitheas to victory

Both teams hit the same number of two-pointers, 16, with similar percentages - Promitheas 36.4%, Bursaspor 41.0% - and tied on rebounds, too, 47-47. Both teams also had the same number of turnovers, 12. However, Promitheas shared the ball better and that led the Greek powerhouse to a win. Promitheas had 27 assists, its third-best mark in competition history, and Bursaspor only had 17. 

Hamburg Towers made history by defeating Lietkabelis Panevezys 96-100 on the road for its first victory ever in the 7DAYS EuroCup. Lukas Meisner came off the bench for an injured Maik Kotsar and scored a game-high 20 points while Jaylon Brown poured in 18. Robin Christen added 13 points for the winners, including the game-deciding free throws with 7.4 seconds left; Seth Hinrichs chipped in 12 and Caleb Homesley had 10 points. 

Hamburg tops Lietkabelis, 96-100, for historic first win

Hamburg improved to 1-3 in Group A while Lietkabelis dropped to 2-2. Hamburg could not stop Gediminas Orelik, who drained 7 three-pointers in scoring a career-high 31 points for the hosts. Nikola Radicevic collected 13 points and 12 assists, Djordje Gagic had 13 points and 8 rebounds and Panagiotis Kalaitzakis was held to 11 points on just 3 field goal attempts. 

Hamburg got three-pointers from Brown and Justus Hollatz in building a 2-10 lead early. Orelik scored 8 points to try to keep Lietkabelis close but Kotsar countered with 4 points and Brown added a layup as the advantage grew to 15-27. Karolis Giedraitis and Kalaitzakis both drained three-pointers for the hosts to trim the deficit, but only to see Meisner connect from deep for a 23-33 scoreboard after 10 minutes. 

Lietkabelis tallied the first 4 points of the second quarter and kept Hamburg off the boards for the first 2 minutes while Radicevic's three-pointer cut the gap to 30-35. Orelik drained another triple and Vytenis Lipkevicius trimmed it to 37-40. Hamburg stood strong with a Hollatz triple and Christen three-point play to keep the guests in control, 45-50, at the break. 

Orelik continued his superb game with a three-pointer to start the second half and scored 3 more points the hard way as Lietkabelis reclaimed the lead, 53-51. Yet another Orelik triple had the hosts up 56-53. Meisner stepped up for the guests with 6 straight points and Hamburg went back ahead 56-59. Kaspars Berzins countered with a three-pointer to even the game. It remained tight the rest of the quarter and Ray McCallum's jumper had the guests leading 66-67 after 30 minutes.

Gagic opened the fourth quarter with the first 4 points for a 70-67 lead change. Brown countered with a triple and then it was Meisner's time to take over again with 2 three-pointers. Brown added a three-point play in that 2-11 run to move Hamburg ahead 75-81. Hollatz extended the gap to 77-84 with a triple of his own with under 6 minutes to play. The guests defended well and Meisner and Brown both were on target from deep yet again as the advantage reached 80-92. Lietkabelis, not ready to go down without a fight, used a sudden 9-2 run to pull within 89-94. Homesley answered with a big three-pointer with 63 seconds left to make it 89-97. Orelik did drain his seventh three-pointer as the hosts would not go away, pulling within 96-98 thanks to Homesley missing 4 free throws in the final 24 seconds, although Christen finished off the win at the foul line with 7.4 seconds left.

Gediminas Orelik came into the game as a real weapon for Lietkabelis, averaging 12.0 points a game and hitting 3 three-pointers in two of the three games. But the 31-year-old really broke out against Hamburg.

Orelik unstoppable for Lietkabelis

He connected on 7-of-14 three-pointers in scoring a career-high 31 points, which was 4 more than the 27 he scored for Rytas Vilnius in November 2014 against Banvit Bandirma. Orelik also grabbed 5 rebounds and dished out 3 assists. In addition, he drew 5 fouls to finish with a PIR of 28, which matched his EuroCup career high from March 2015 for Rytas against Pinar Karsiyaka.
