A huge individual performance in a come-from-behind winning effort allowed [Jared Harper](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/jared-harper/011970/) of Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem to earn MVP of the Round honors for the third time in the 2024-25 BKT EuroCup season.

Harper led Jerusalem to a 77-94 road victory over Turk Telekom Ankara with a career-high 35 points on 8-of-12 two-pointers, 2-of-6 three-pointers and 13-of-13 free throws. He added 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 9 fouls drawn for a PIR of 38, the highest in Round 9.

[Ante Tomic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/ante-tomic/002507/) of Joventut Badalona amassed a PIR of 29 in his team's 89-78 road loss against Bahcesehir College Istanbul. Tomic had 18 points on 6-of-6 two-pointers and 6-of-6 free throws, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 6 fouls drawn. [Jean Montero](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/jean-montero/010042/) led Valencia Basket to a 96-107 road victory over Cosea JL Bourg-en-Bresse with 19 points, 4 rebounds, 9 assists, 2 steals and 7 fouls drawn, good for a PIR of 28. [Mfiondu Kabengele](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/mfiondu-kabengele/012796/) of Umana Reyer Venice and [Devante Jones](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/devante-jones/013260/) of Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana, each with a PIR of 27, round out the list of top individual performances in Round 9.

### Individual highs: Jordan Baheye, Trento, 13 rebounds

Harper, this Round’s MVP, led all scorers with 35 points. He is also the runaway scoring leader with 23.1 points per game.

[Jordan Bayehe](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/jordan-bayehe/006724/) of Dolomiti Energia Trento pulled down 13 rebounds to lead all players in this round. Kabengele is the competition's top rebounder with 10.5 boards per night.

[Zavier Simpson](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/zavier-simpson/013302/) of U-BT Cluj-Napoca was the only player to reach double digits in assists, dishing 10 in his team's 87-79 home win over Aris Midea Thessaloniki. He is also first overall with 7.2 assists per game.

[Landers Nolley](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/landers-nolley/013249/) of Aris, Cedevita's Jones and [John Shurna](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/john-shurna/006588/) of Dreamland Gran Canaria each collected 4 steals in Round 9. Buducnost VOLI showed what it is capable of by thrashing BC Wolves 104-77 in Round 9 on Friday night, with every player who stepped onto the floor scoring for the hosts.

Buducnost VOLI Podgorica showed what it is capable of by thrashing Wolves Twinsbet Vilnius 104-77 in Round 9 on Friday night, with every player who stepped onto the floor scoring for the hosts.

Rasheed Sulaimon was a menace on the offensive end all night long and finished with a game-high 23 points, while Fletcher Magee had 16, Nikola Tanaskovic netted 15, Kenan Kamenjas poured in 12, and Juwan Morgan scored 11. Kamenjas also paired his 12 points with 12 rebounds. For Wolves, Anthony Cowan finished with a team-best 18 points, with Tre'Shawn Thurman and Garrison Brooks adding 10 and 10 points, respectively.

An opening 7-0 run by Buducnost was perhaps a signal of what was to come, although Wolves did immediately respond with a 7-0 run of their own to tie the game at 7-7. Yet, a couple of threes – one by Yogi Ferrell and another by Sulaimon – helped Buducnost push ahead to a 20-12 lead. Morgan then had 7 points in a hurry, and McKinley Wright's layup ensured it was 29-18 at the end of the first quarter.

Even though Wolves prevented Buducnost from pulling away in the early minutes of the second period, back-to-back triples by Magee suddenly swelled the lead to 45-27. Buducnost continued to shine whenever it went to big men Tanaskovic and Kamenjas, and they were both key in ensuring the hosts held a 57-38 advantage at the interval.

Game News

Wolves outscored Buducnost 6-2 in the first couple of minutes, but it was too big a mountain to climb as the Montenegrin club simply went up a gear to regain a hefty lead. Tanaskovic and Kamenjas continued to impress, while Morgan and veteran center Alen Omic appeared late in the third quarter to help Buducnost enter the final frame with an 82-61 lead.

Wolves's Marek Blazevic got the first score of the fourth quarter, but three straight threes by Buducnost – two by Sulaimon and one by Magee – effectively put the win on ice at 91-63. Kamenjas kept showing lots of energy inside, while there was loud applause when Mateo Dreznjak hit a technical free throw with 1 second left as that meant all 11 players who stepped onto the floor for Buducnost had scored, with the final score being 104-77.

Bahcesehir confirmed its spot atop Group A at the halfway point of the regular season after beating Joventut 89-78 at home for a sixth straight victory. Coming off the national team break, the Turkish side did not look rusty at all in improving to 8-1.

Cluj improved to 5-4 on the season while knocking Aris down to 2-7. Simpson and Zach Hankins finished with 14 points each for the winners with Simpson dishing 10 assists and Hankins collected 9 rebounds. Landers Nolley led Aris with 22 points.

Reyer pulled off a superb comeback to beat Lietkabelis in overtime. The hosts led throughout regulation, being up by 15 three minutes into the third quarter. Yet, Reyer took its first lead in overtime and pulled away to clinch the victory on Thursday. Reyer celebrated its first road win of the season and improved its record to 4-5, with Lietkabelis dropping to 3-5. Harper had 25 points after the break. Gabriel Chachashvili added a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Braian Angola had 15 points for Turk Telekom, which led 44-39 at halftime.

Besiktas outscored Trento 22-43 in the middle two quarters to take control en route to a victory at Il T Quotidiano Arena on Thursday night. The result saw Besiktas climb into at least a share of fourth place in Group A with a 5-4 record, while Trento slipped to 3-6. Kelan Martin paced the winning effort with 13 points and Yigit Arslan and Berk Ugurlu added 12 points apiece. Quin Ellis, Myles Cale and Toto Forray all scored 13 for Trento.

### Dreamland Gran Canaria 84-58 Trefl Sopot

Gran Canaria bounced back from its recent home loss by overwhelming Trefl to go up to 7-2 in Group A. Caleb Homesley led the winners with 20 points and no missed shots in 17 minutes. George Conditt and Miquel Salvo each added 10 points for Gran Canaria. Andy Van Vliet and Jakub Schenk led Trefl with 11 points apiece. Gran Canaria led 39-31 at halftime, improved its margin to 62-42 after 30 minutes and never looked back.

Game Center: Buducnost wins to bring a close to Round 9

Noa Essengue and Ben Saraf once again played a big role in ratiopharm Ulm's 80-82 victory over Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv in Round 9. 


The kids are alright in Ulm 

[Noa Essengue](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/noa-essengue/011391/) and [Ben Saraf](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/ben-saraf/011437/) once again played a big role in [ratiopharm Ulm's 80-82 victory over Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/news/ulm-rallies-past-hapoel-80-81-on-sarafs-game-winner/) in Round 9.

It was a special game at Samokov, Bulgaria, as Dimitris Itoudis returned to the BKT EuroCup after coaching Banvit Bandirma in the 2013-14 campaign. After that, he went on to coach CSKA Moscow and win two Turkish Airlines EuroLeague championships in 2016 and 2019, and also worked for Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul. Itoudis did not have the EuroCup return he wished, as Essengue and Saraf made sure Ulm competed until the end.

Hapoel seemed to have the game under control, leading 73-64 early in the fourth quarter. Essengue stepped up for Ulm and got plenty of help from Justinian Jessup to bring Ulm within 77-76. Marcus Foster took over with a three-point play, Alfonso Plummer erased that with a bomb from downtown and with the game on the line, Saraf took matters into his own hands.

Saraf used a wild spin move to go past Tomer Ginat and generate the space he needed to get a comfortable shot, which he hit to put Ulm ahead for good, 80-81, with 1:20 remaining. Essengue sealed the outcome from the foul line, missing his second attempt on purpose with 1.6 seconds left to run the game clock down.

When the dust settled, Essengue had recorded yet another outstanding all-around performance, finishing the game with 19 points on 11 of 14 free throws, 5 rebounds, an assist, 2 steals, no turnovers, 2 blocks and 9 fouls drawn for a game-high PIR of 26. A month before his 18th birthday, Essengue averages 13.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 0.9 blocks and a PIR of 18.0 in 9 games this season.

"I think we played really well. We played well together. We did some good stuff at the end of the game, that clutch shot from Ben \[Saraf\], and we played our game." Essengue said after the game. "I think that's a good win because we played against a very talented team, and we needed this win to go up in the standings."

Saraf, who turned 18 last April, also did a little bit of everything. Added to hitting the go-ahead shot, Saraf had 5 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals in 18 minutes.

"We had some mistakes defensively and a lot of foul trouble. We put them on the line quite a few times, so during halftime we talked about that a little bit. We can't give up 28 points in a quarter on the road and expect to win the game," Ulm head coach Ty Harrelson said after the game. "We just need to have the same intensity on defense that we had in the third and fourth quarters."

Indeed, Ulm went from allowing 48 points in the first half to just 32 after the break. Ulm finished the game with 5 blocks, 9 steals and above all, 23 offensive rebounds, a new EuroCup club record. Its previous best mark were 21 offensive rebounds in a 77-85 home loss against FoxTown Cantu on February 19, 2014. Hapoel had a higher PIR than Ulm, 97-90, but the guests returned home with a big victory.

Harper scored a personal-best and club-record 35 points, leading [Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/hapoel-bank-yahav-jerusalem/jer/) to a come-from-behind [77-94 win over Turk Telekom Ankara](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/news/harper-leads-jerusalem-in-77-94-comeback-win-over-turk-telekom/).

"It \[was\] a great 40 minutes for us," Harper said after Jerusalem's fourth straight win. "\[When\] we came in the second half, our urgency, our effort was there defensively, and I was able to get some shots."

But Harper did not just make some shots, he kept piling up the points – and in key moments as well.

Harper had just 6 points in the first half, which happened to be Jerusalem's first 6 points of the night, but then added 17 in the third quarter, which means he entered the fourth quarter with 23 to his tally.

Then, with 6 minutes left in the game and his team up 68-71, Harper hit a mid-range jumper before following it up with a driving layup. After making a pair of free throws, he scored a tough runner high off the glass for a personal run of 8 points, also sparking a 0-10 spurt that iced the game.

For the night, Harper was 8 of 12 on two-pointers and 2 of 6 behind the arc. He also shot 13 free throws without a miss, the second time this season he was perfect from the foul line on 13 attempts.

Harper raised his EuroCup-leading scoring average to 23.1 points and is averaging a PIR of 29.2 after this game, in which he accumulated a 38 PIR.

More importantly, with a fourth straight win, Jerusalem improved to 7-2, behind only the undefeated Valencia Basket in Group B.

Kabengele dominated in closing stages to inspire Reyer comeback

Turning around a game where you’ve been trailing for more than 39 minutes must be incredibly satisfying. Doing so with your center netting his first-ever triple in the BKT EuroCup in the closing stages of regulation to help force overtime is simply extraordinary.

[7Bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/teams/lietkabelis-panevezys/roster/lkb/?season=2024-25) took the lead from the off against [Umana Reyer Venice](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/umana-reyer-venice/roster/vnc/) and held on to it up until crunch time. With 1:17 left on the clock, [Mfiondu Tshimanga Kabengele ](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/mfiondu-kabengele/012796/)didn’t hesitate – he pulled up from beyond the arc and netted a three-pointer to tie the duel 84-84.

“Not surprised. I can shoot,” Kabengele said after the game. “I’m comfortable with my shooting. I just play a role on this team. Me shooting threes compared to \[Davide\] Moretti or Carl \[Wheatle\] or Kyle \[Wiltjer\] doesn’t help the team, so I know my role and I pick my spots when I need to. When it’s time to shoot, I’ll shoot, but I trust those guys to make those plays. I’m the better rebounder, better roller, better facilitator of the pick-and-roll. It’s just my job to pick the right time and I thought that was the right time to shoot that shot.”

Kabengele scored 9 of his career-high 21 points in the last 5 minutes of regulation, including the aforementioned triple that turned the tide in Reyer’s favor. Despite a certain blow in morale, Lietkabelis held firm and took a 90-88 lead through [Marko Pecarski](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/marko-pecarski/005656/) in overtime. Then, Reyer guard [Tyler Ennis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/tyler-ennis/008858/) missed from inside in what could have been a turning point for the hosts, but Kabengele stepped up again, collected the offensive rebound, drew the foul and tied it at 90-90. What followed was a 0-10 run for the visitors to seal the comeback victory. Kabengele paired his 21 points with 11 rebounds for a game-high PIR of 27 to inspire Reyer’s first road victory of the 2024-25 BKT EuroCup campaign.

“We didn’t give up for 40 minutes,” head coach [Neven Spahija](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/umana-reyer-venice/vnc/spahija-neven/) said in the post-game press conference. “We believed, we trusted each other and at the end of the game we found the best chemistry.”

Having improved its record to 4-5, Reyer has managed to stay in the playoff picture. Next week, the Italian side will travel to Greece, where they’ll face [Aris Midea Thessaloniki](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/game-center/2024-25/aris-midea-thessaloniki-umana-reyer-venice/U2024/99/) in their bid to extend their winning streak to three games. And for another game, Reyer will be able to lean on difference-maker Kabengele to lead the way on the court.
