You could tell on Wednesday that missing the 7DAYS EuroCup Playoffs last season by finishing last in its group did not sit will with anyone at Promitheas Patras, which turned around an early deficit to steal a 76-89 road win at Dolomiti Energia Trento.
Indeed, head coach Makis Giatras was already measuring the win for size in the Group B playoffs race: "It was a good game for us," he said after. "We won with a difference of 13 points, which might be crucial for the second round."
Promitheas smelled blood after an 0-11 run to close the first half, and its three scoring aces – Trevis Simpson, Arnoldas Kulboka and Joe Young – took turns the rest of the night keeping their team well in front.
That trio combined for 60 points as Simpson buried 22, Young 20 and Kulboka 18. It marked the first time in the club's 45 EuroCup games to date that three players scored 18 points or more. Together they hit 8 of the team's 9 three-pointers, but were arguably better inside the arc, going a combined 13-for-16 (81.5%).
With Young running the point, Simpson sniping from the wings and Kulboka able to bang or step outside, Promitheas has a three-man threat to build on as it looks to make a distant memory of its last-place group finish a year ago.
