Valencia Basket took charge down the stretch and outlasted Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse 77-88 to move atop Group B and clinch a spot in the knock-out rounds.

The score was tied with 4 minutes remaining before Valencia went on a game-closing 4-15 run to claim the victory. Valencia improved to 10-4 and put it atop Group B – at least temporarily. Klemen Prepelic paced the winners with 18 points on 5-of-11 three-point shooting, Xabi Lopez-Arostegui scored 17, Jaime Pradilla 15, Mike Tobey posted 10 points and 11 rebounds and Martin Hermannsson tied the club record with 12 assists. Rasheed Sulaimon scored 17 for Bourg and Axel Julien and JaCorey Williams added 10 each. The loss dropped Bourg’s record to 5-9.

Valencia won the opening tip and Louis Labeyrie struck first with a jumper. After a Josep Puerto triple, Williams authored Bourg’s first basket. Second-chance baskets by Tobey and Labeyrie stretched the lead to 5-12. Tobey scored twice more to extend the margin to 9 before Sulaimon and Julien got going for the hosts. After a timeout, a three by Alexandre Chassang and a layup by Sulaimon made it 18-21. Bourg twice got within 1 before a triple by Ferrando Guillem made it 22-26 at the end of the first quarter.
Prepelic opened the second-quarter scoring with a three and before long a triple by Bojan Dubljevic established the game’s first double-digit lead, 22-33. Nearly 4 minutes passed before CJ Harris scored Bourg’s first points of the quarter with free throws. Pradilla made a three from the corner to give Valencia a 26-39 cushion, however, Pierre Pelos and responded with threes for the hosts. Sulaimon added a jumper and found Williams for a layup to complete a 10-0 run. A three by Hermannsson gave Valencia breathing room and Williams got Bourg within 38-42 at the break.
Threes on Bourg’s first two possessions by Axel Julien and Jalen Jones gave Bourg its first lead of the game. Julien drove for a layup that prompted a Valencia timeout at 46-42. The visitors regrouped and soon tied it, though Williams put Bourg in front again. Jones remained hot with a three-point play that made it 54-49 midway through the third quarter. Valencia tied it through Prepelic, but free throws by Chassang nosed the hosts in front. Hugo Benitez’s steal and layup and Sulaimon’s buzzer-beating jumper finished the third quarter with the hosts ahead 63-58.
Pradilla and Chassang traded threes to start the fourth quarter. Hermannsson turned a steal into a triple that tied the score at 66-66. Harris drew a foul for the third time in the quarter and sank free throws to restore a slim Bourg advantage. Pradilla scored in the post to tie it and Jaisel Rivero dunked after a Hermannsson steal for a 68-70 Valencia lead. Bourg called timeout and Williams evened the score again with 5 minutes to go. Free throws by Pradilla and a jumper by Lopez-Arostegui gave Valencia a 73-77 advantage with 3 minutes to play. Prepelic and Sulaimon traded threes, but Hermannsson found Pradilla for a slam and Lopez-Arostegui put the game on ice with a three from the corner.
