Turk Telekom runs away from Buducnost 73-96, tightens race for playoffs



Turk Telekom Ankara showed another sign of life in its challenge to make the playoffs by beating Buducnost VOLI Buducnost 73-96 on the road. It marked the club's second straight victory and its first away from home all season. Turk Telekom tallied 57 points in the second half to decide it and give the Turkish side a 3-8 mark in an even tighter Group B.
Tyrone Wallace led Turk Telekom with 22 points while James Palmer scored 17 points, Okben Ulubay added 15 and Steven Enoch chipped in a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds with 3 blocks for last season’s runners-up. Buducnost had won two of its last three but dropped to 4-7 with the defeat. McKinley Wright netted 22 points in the losing effort.
Little separates teams in first half
Palmer’s three-pointer put the visitors ahead 4-7 after more than 2 minutes. Buducnost answered with the next 9 points including a three-pointer from Wright for a 13-7 lead. Turk Telekom found its game after that with a 2-13 run with both Wallace and Enoch scoring 4 points for a 15-20 cushion. Vladimir Mihailovic converted a four-point play for the hosts, who trailed 19-20 and it was 21-22 after 10 minutes.
Brandon Paul started the second quarter with a triple and Buducnost surged ahead 26-22. It was Turk Telekom’s turn for a run, outscoring the hosts 1-10 and going up 27-32 on Wallace’s three-pointer. The back and forth continued as did the runs with McKinley’s free throws making it 35-34. Turk Telekom edged back ahead and led 37-39 at halftime.

The visitors pull away
Wallace scored the first 4 points of the second half and Palmer made it 37-45 - the biggest advantage for either team thus far. Buducnost needed nearly 2 minutes to score and Wright’s basket trimmed the deficit to 45-48. Turk Telekom continued its strong surge with Ulubay hitting 2 triples and Palmer and Ismail Ulusoy both adding three-pointers in a 2-18 run to give the guests a 47-66 cushion. Buducnost came up with a nice finish to the quarter with the final 5 points to trail 52-66 after 30 minutes.
Petar Popovic made it a 7-0 spurt spanning the quarters but Ulusoy drained another triple and Enoch scored 4 points and Turk Telekom led 56-73. Wright tried to get Buducnost close with 6 points to trim it to 62-75 with under 6 minutes to go. Turk Telekom delivered the knockout punch though with the next 7 points and Wallace’s three-pointer made it 62-82 with less than 4 minutes to go. Wallace added 2 more triples and the cushion was 67-91 to give Turk Telekom perhaps some important points for later tiebreakers.
