Wolves finish season on high note, downing London 80-85 on road

Wolves Vilnius finished its EuroCup season on a high note as it knocked off London Lions 80-85 on the road in its final game. The Lithuanian club grabbed its fourth win in the last five games to depart the competition with an 8-10 mark. Christian Mekowulu and Jeffery Taylor were Wolves’ leading scorers with 18 points each and Kristupas Zemaitis had 12 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.
London will go into the playoffs as the third seed from Group A after it had a 12-6 record. It slumped to only a 4-5 home record and will face off against Turk Telekom Ankara in the eighthfinals. David Nwaba and Matthew Morgan led London with 16 points each.

Regimantas Miniotas scored Wolves’ first 6 points for a 3-6 lead. After Garrison Brooks scored to make it 7-12, Nwaba threw down a dunk to even the game at 14-14. The guests scored the next 5 points only to see London tally five straight and Tre’Shawn Thurman’s three-pointer had Wolves up 23-24 after 10 minutes.
Mekowulu scored 7 straight Wolves points to put the visitors up 25-31. Tarik Phillip trimmed the deficit to 30-32. Mekowulu added 4 more points as the cushion grew to 8 points and it stood at 39-45 at the intermission.
Wolves pushed the advantage to 41-50 only to see London score the next 5 points. Zemaitis answered with a three-pointer and Miniotias’s dunk on the break had Wolves up by a game-high 11 points, 46-57. London tried to get close and Josh Sharma picked up two scores for the hosts to make it 58-62. The score was 60-64 after 30 minutes.
London started the fourth quarter better with Matthew Morgan scoring 5 points and Sharma’s basket putting the hosts ahead 69-67. Wolves responded with the next 4 points and Zemaitis added a pair of three-pointers for a 75-80 advantage with under 3 minutes to play. Wolves continued to get the stops it needed and Taylor's free throws left the visitors up 78-84 with 81 seconds to go. And that was enough for the win.
