Panathinaikos OPAP Athens was on fire from beyond the arc in the opening stages of Tuesday's 80-67 home victory over FC Bayern Munich.
Telling numbers: Early threes boosted Greens
The Greek team converted 6 of its 8 attempts from long-range in the first quarter, with Okaro White and Daryl Macon both knocking down a pair, while Howard Sant-Roos and Nemanja Nedovic were also on target. That flurry of scoring allowed Panathinaikos to build a 26-16 lead at the end of the quarter.
That was mighty impressive considering that only 19 times in Turkish Airlines EuroLeague history have any teams made more than 6 three-pointers in a first quarter. Panathinaikos matched its own best output from the arc in the first 10 minutes, having done so the last time back in Round 14 against ALBA Berlin.

Although the Greens could not come close to maintaining that kind of offensive pace – eventually finishing with 10 triples on 27 attempts, with Macon making 4 of 6 – it was enough to set up the victory. Consistent defense never allowed Bayern to get a lead as Panathinaikos held the German visitors to 19 points or less in every quarter.
