Game Center: Impressive road wins for Milan, Monaco; Zvezda, ASVEL triumph

Milan celebrated an 85-91 road win over EuroLeague leader Fenerbahce after the Italian team’s forward Nikola Mirotic scored a game-high 29 points through the opening three quarters. Mirotic, who also racked up 9 boards, was scoreless in the fourth, but Zach LeDay stepped up and scored 11 of his 19 points in the final 10 minutes, while Neno Dimitrijevic added 15, as Milan improved to 6-6. Fenerbahce dropped to 9-3 after trailing more or less throughout the contest, with Wade Baldwin pacing the home team on 19 points. Arturs Zagars netted 16 and Tarik Biberovic chipped in with 15 for the Turkish outfit, whose late fightback fell short.
Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade 101-77 FC Bayern Munich
Crvena Zvezda bounced back in style from its last home loss against archrival Partizan by beating the visiting Bayern at Belgrade Arena on Friday night. The hosts had a strong start with Filip Petrusev ruling inside to earn a 25-19 lead after 10 minutes and a 42-34 edge at halftime, but the hosts pulled away after the intermission. A 17-2 run with Ognjen Dobric running the show made Bayern fall into pieces in the third quarter, helping Zvezda get a balanced winning record at 6-6, while Bayern dropped to 8-4.
Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens 88-91 AS Monaco
Vassilis Spanoulis enjoyed a triumphant start to his EuroLeague coaching career, guiding Monaco to an 88-91 road victory at Panathinaikos in a back-and-forth battle featuring 25 lead changes. Monaco improved to 8-4, while Panathinaikos dropped to 7-5 after two straight losses. Monaco just about edged a high-scoring opening half, ahead 48-50 at the break, but Panathinaikos battled back to lead early in the final quarter. It stayed close the rest of the way, before Monaco controlled the last few possessions to prevail. Alpha Diallo starred with 24 points, while Jordan Loyd scored 15, Elie Okoko added 14, Georgios Papagiannis netted 13 and Mike James dished 10 assists. Mathias Lessort powered Panathinaikos with a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Kendrick Nunn had 23 points. Kostas Sloukas also netted 11 points and Juancho Hernangomez added 10.
LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne 97-82 Anadolu Efes Istanbul
ASVEL protected its home court in style on Friday night, coming back from a double-digit deficit to down the visiting Efes 97-82. This win improved ASVEL to a 4-8 record, while Efes dropped to 6-6 with its second straight defeat. Efes seemed in control and led 47-58 in the opening minute of the third quarter, but ASVEL stepped up defensively, erasing the deficit before the end of the third frame, then pulling away in the fourth to its biggest win of the season. Joffrey Lauvergne paced ASVEL with 18 points, while Theo Maledon and Nando De Colo scored 17 apiece, with Maledon also dishing 7 assists.

Zalgiris Kaunas 70-83 Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz
Baskonia rallied from 16 points down to surprise Zalgiris 70-83 and finally collect its first road victory of the season. Baskonia went on a 0-16 run spanning the final two quarters to erase the big deficit and finished the game with the final 11 points to improve to 5-7 and 1-5 away from home. Chima Moneke scored 17 points to pace five Baskonia players in double figures, with Donta Hall collecting 14 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks, Trent Forrest adding 14 points and Kamar Baldwin and Nikos Ragkovapoulos both chipping in 10 points. Zalgirs looked like it was flying high with 4 minutes left in the third quarter but crashed back to earth for a 7-5 record, including 5-2 at home. Lonnie Walker scored 9 of his 19 points in the closing minutes, but they were not enough. Deividas Sirvydis contributed 14 points in the loss.
ALBA Berlin 85-103 Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv
Maccabi got back to winning ways, leading from start to finish en route to beating ALBA on Thursday night in the German capital. Maccabi registered its first road win of the season and improved to 4-8, while ALBA dropped to a league-worst 2-10 record. Maccabi opened the game with a 2-18 run and then pulled away for good at the end of the first half as Rokas Jokubaitis scored the first 8 points in the game on the way to a career-high 24 points plus 6 assists. Matteo Spagnolo had 16 points for ALBA.
Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade 78-70 Olympiacos Piraeus
Partizan grabbed its second straight victory by defeating Olympiacos at Belgrade Arena. The hosts outscored the Reds 28-13 in the fourth quarter, where Brandon Davies stepped up big to seal the victory. With this win, Partizan improved to 4-8, while, Olympiacos saw its six-game winning streak come to an end and dropped to 8-4. Carlik Jones paced Partizan with 15 points. For Olympiacos, Evan Fournier led all scorers with 16.
Paris Basketball 81-78 Virtus Segafredo Bologna
Paris stretched its winning streak to eight games after overcoming a slow start to beat visiting Virtus and improve to 9-3 in the premier club competition. TJ Shorts again paced Paris with 19 points and 9 assists. At the other end, Will Clyburn led Virtus with a game-high 25 points but only 5 of them came in the second half. Isaia Cordinier netted 16 points for the visitors, who dropped to 2-10.
FC Barcelona 90-97 Real Madrid
It took double overtime, but Real Madrid managed to come out on top in the 37th edition of El Clásico this century after downing Barcelona 90-97 at Palau Blaugrana. Big players step up in the big games and that is what happened for Los Blancos, with Walter Tavares, Facundo Campazzo and Mario Hezonja all coming to the fore in crucial moments for the visitors, who won for the first time on the road this season after going 0-5 away from WiZink Center before Thursday night. For Barcelona, it has now lost three straight games in the EuroLeague.
