Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv beefed up its backcourt by signing combo-guard Joe Thomasson for the remainder of the season. Thomasson (1.93 meters, 30 years old) arrives from Granada, where he averaged 14.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists for a PIR of 13.6 in 20 Spanish League games this season. He returns to Israel after a successful stint with Hapoel Gilboa Galil during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.
Thomasson played in the EuroCup last season for Promitheas Patras of Greece and posted 14.1 points, 2.7 assists and 2.6 assists in 10 games to help the club reach the quarterfinals. He has also played for Dynamo Bucharest in Romania, Polpharma Starogard Gdansk, Start Lublin and Stelmet Zielona Gora in Poland; BAXI Manresa in Spain, and Zenit St. Petersburg in Russia.
