Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens

A continental basketball giant, Panathinaikos stands as the mightiest force in the EuroLeague since the dawn of the Final Four era in 1988, with an impressive six titles between 1996 and 2011. Its seventh EuroLeague crown came in 2024. The Greens first took charge of Greek basketball with 12 domestic titles over a 17-year stretch between 1967 and 1984. In 1996, Panagiotis Giannakis, Dominique Wilkins and Fragiskos Alvertis came together and secured the first EuroLeague title by a Greek team. A second EuroLeague trophy arrived in 2000, led by head coach Zeljko Obradovic, with a win over Maccabi Tel Aviv. The Greens won it all again in 2002, downing Kinder Bologna on its home court, and beat CSKA Moscow twice in the 2007 and 2009 championship games to secure two more EuroLeague titles. In 2011, EuroLeague MVP and Final Four MVP Dimitris Diamantidis led Panathinaikos to its sixth EuroLeague crown. Panathinaikos returned to the Final Four in 2012, in Obradovic's last season with the Greens. More EuroLeague playoffs appearances and Greek titles followed over the next few seasons. Panathinaikos ended a five-year absence from the EuroLeague Playoffs last season before going on to beat Real Madrid in the title decider in Ergin Ataman’s first season on the bench. The Greens also ended Olympiacos’s stranglehold on the Greek League title by securing the domestic championship for the first time since 2021. Now, Ataman and Panathinaikos are now looking to be become just the fourth club to win back-to-back EuroLeague titles this century.
