Umana Reyer Venice celebrated a huge win over Group B leader Gran Canaria by combining hard-nosed defense and great long-range shooting.
Reyer froze Gran Canaria on both ends

Gran Canaria visited Venice as one of the hottest teams of the competition, having won its last five games to claim its place atop Group B. However, Umana Reyer Venice took the court without any fear and showed great concentration, preventing its opponent from taking charge from the very beginning and excelling both on offense and defense to build a difference that was over the 20-point border several times after halftime.
On offense, Reyer used an amazing shooting performance in the second quarter, when it opened the period chaining together 5 three-pointers from four different players in the first 5 minutes that rocketed its lead to 35-16. Right after the intermission, the hosts added 3 more that extended the margin to 52-29 after 26 minutes, which proved insurmountable for the guests.
On the other end, Reyer held Gran Canaria to 10, 13 and 16 points in the first 3 quarters, forcing 20 turnovers from the visitors and getting 10 steals from them in that time. That superb defensive display allowed the hosts to limit Gran Canaria’s offense to just 59 points at the end of the game, its season-lowest, and complete, as head coach Walter De Raffaele recognized in the press conference “maybe one of our best defensive games this season.”
