Let the debate begin – and may the best team win!
2025
- Jared Harper, Jerusalem
- Jean Montero, Valencia
- Jaleen Smith, Bahcesehir
- Jonathan Motley, Hapoel Tel Aviv
- Mfiondu Kabengele, Umana Reyer
2017
- Curtis Jerrells, Jerusalem
- Mardy Collins, Lokomotiv
- Alexey Shved, Khimki
- Bojan Dubljevic, Valencia
- Dejan Musli, Unicaja
While it's important not to allow recency bias to influence my decision here, I like the 2025 team much more. Let’s start with what these teams have in common: Both play with three guards of which one was a crazy scorer that season. And both have big frontlines with a '4' who could play center.
The elite scorers are, of course, Harper and Shved. The versatile power forwards are Motley and Dubljevic. I think 2025 has more playmaking ability between Harper, Smith and Montero than their counterparts; neither Jerrells nor Collins averaged even 4 assists per game in 2017. Meanwhile on the glass, Kabengele was a much stronger rebounder than Musli. I am not feeling much defensive dominance from 2017 either. So with all that in mind, I choose the 2025 team. Agree or disagree?
