The conclusion of Round 13 has brought some clarity to the standings with the eight-seed in Groups A and B both two wins clear of the teams on the outside of the playoff picture looking in.  

It also brought the second highest scoring effort in regulation time in 7DAYS EuroCup history as [Gran Canaria’s 118-point effort](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/game-center/2022-23/gran-canaria-paris-basketball/U2022/129/) fell within 3 points of [the previous record of 121](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/game-center/2002-03/adecco-estudiantes-madrid-generali-group-trieste/U2002/45/) set over 20 years ago.

The EuroCup is not exactly young. Tipping off back in the winter of 2002, the competition has contested 4,240 games through this week; it's seen highs, lows, and everything in between. Even so, when Gran Canaria poured in 118 points in regulation against Paris Basket on Wednesday, it was difficult not to begin the search for historical context. 

It is not easy to eclipse 100 points in a 40-minute game let alone have a brush with the 120-point mark—only 19 teams have made it into triple digits this season. Reaching 100 points requires a fairly rare combination of pace and efficiency.

It does not take a lot of searching to put the efficiency component of that equation in context. As well as Gran Canaria played offensively, it didn’t even have the most efficient game of the week as Promitheas Patras scored 1.28 points per possession against Veolia Towers Hamburg whose 1.26 points per possession nearly eclipsed Gran Canaria’s 1.27 per possession effort as well.  

What made Gran Canaria’s performance unique on paper was how fast the game moved and who it was scoring against. Using over 10 more possessions this week than either Promitheas or Hamburg, but actually, 4 fewer than its opponent, Paris Basketball, the opportunity was there for Gran Canaria to put up a big scoring total. It is worth noting, however, that even in a fast-paced game, it was scoring in bunches against a Paris team that still ranks in the top-5 in overall defensive efficiency.  

Getting 53 points from the bench, shooting 15-for-30 from beyond the arc, and not having a single individual lineup use more than nine possessions, Gran Canaria had great synergy on the offensive end.

Shooting the ball well from the midrange - on top of its three-point prowess and rebounding quite a few of its misses on the interior - is what made Gran Canaria’s performance stand out. That's especially true relative to the 2002 record-setting contest, which featured a copious free-throw and turnover margin. This time the offensive effort fell in line closely with the other strong stretches Coach Jaka Lakovic’s team has had this season. 

It was not any one set Gran Canaria kept going back to more than usual, any one weaknesses it was exploiting, or any one player who took over, it was just the same formula that has helped the team notch a EuroCup-best 11 wins, but just spread consistently over a full 40 minutes.

With five games remaining and a lot to still be decided in terms of seeding, there’s no time for anyone to bask in the glow of a single game, record or not. That’s especially true for Gran Canaria, which visits Hapoel Vegan Friendly Tel Aviv in Round 14 for a matchup of the teams with the two highest point differentials this season.

Umana Reyer Venice has relieved head coach [Walter De Raffaele](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/teams/umana-reyer-venice/vnc/de-raffaele-walter/?season=U2022) of his duties after 13 years at the club. De Raffaele, who was in charge as Reyer head coach for a total of 403 games, leaves the club sitting fifth in the Group A standings of this season's 7DAYS EuroCup after going 7-6 in its opening 13 fixtures.

De Raffaele became the Reyer head coach in February 2016, having spent the previous five years as the team's assistant coach. The 54-year-old, who is the longest-serving coach in Reyer's history, won the Italian League with the club in 2017 and 2019, while he also led Reyer to the FIBA Europe Cup title in 2018 and the Italian Cup in 2020. His dismissal comes after a run of six defeats in seven games, the last of which came on Sunday at home to Brindisi in the Italian League, leaving the team in ninth position with a record of 8-10.

Umana Reyer Venice announced on Saturday that it has signed [Kendrick Ray ](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/kendrick-ray/profile/009003/)for the remainder of the season. Ray (1.88 meters, 29 years old) arrives from Bosnian side Igokea Aleksandrovac, for which he averaged 15.0 points, 3.5 assists and 1.0 steal in 15 Adriatic League games this season. This will be Ray’s second time in the EuroCup; he averaged 13.3 points, 3.9 assists and 0.9 steals in 16 games for Promitheas Patras last season.

Ray started his career with CEZ Basketball Nymburk of the Czech Republic and also played for Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv of Israel, Le Mans Sarthe Basket of France, AEK Athens of Greece and Socar Petkimspor of Turkey. Ray helped Nymburk win the Czech League and Cup double in 2018, lifted the Greek Cup with AEK in 2020 and reached the French Cup championship game with Le Mans in 2019. He also played in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague with Maccabi in the 2018-19 campaign.

Buducnost VOLI Podgorica secured a playoff spot with a 78-68 home win over the London Lions, and point guard [Trae Bell-Haynes](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/trae-bell-haynes/008411/) played a major role. Bell-Haynes scored 14 points and dished a career-high 10 assists. He was the first Buducnost player with double-digit assists in more than two years, and only fourth different Buducnost player in competition history with 10 or more assists. It was a big win for Buducnost to not only secure a spot in the playoffs, but also to stay in the hunt for home-court advantage.

One of the unsung heroes as Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana kept its playoff chances alive with a 77-73 win over Umana Reyer Venice was [Marko Jeremic.](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/marko-jeremic/010551/) The 31-year old guard played 28 minutes, and netted 4 triples on 7 attempts. He finished with 14 points, and was the player who kept Cedevita offense going in some of the crucial junctures in the game. 

Marko Jeremic went 4-of-7 on three-pointers as Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana beat Umana Reyer Venice 77-73. He also scored his only two-pointer of the game.

Prometey Slobozhanske jumped atop of Group A with its sixth straight win, a 95-90 triumph over Joventut Badalona, and [D.J. Kennedy](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/dj-kennedy/005301/) was all over the place in this game. Kennedy tied his career-high with 23 points, making 5 of 8 two-pointers and 3 of 4 threes. But he also pulled down 7 rebounds, and served 5 assists in 32 minutes on the floor, doing plenty of everything to help his team register another win.

DJ Kennedy went 8-of-12 from the field, in addition to knocking down all 4 of his free throws, as Prometey Slobozhanske downed Joventut Badalona 95-90.

In just his fourth game in the competition, [Bruno Caboclo](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/bruno-caboclo/012096/) of ratiopharm Ulm is setting club records. He led Ulm to a 92-86 win over Frutti Extra Bursaspor with 33 points on 14-for-17 two-point shooting. Those 14 two-pointers made are a new club record and this season's best mark across the EuroCup. His 33 points match Ulm's EuroCup club record: Zoran Dragic previously scored that much against Maccabi Rishon LeZion in the 2019-20 season.

Childs posted his fifth double-double of the season, finishing the game with 26 points while making 9 of 13 two-point shots and 8 of 12 free throws and pulling down 10 rebounds. He added 3 assists, 2 steals and 6 fouls drawn for a PIR of 36, a new career-high and the highest mark in Round 13.

It is a new Gran Canaria club record for most points in a win, and center [Aleksander Balcerowski](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/aleksander-balcerowski/007553/) had to do a lot with it. Balcerowski needed less than 18 minutes to get 20 points, 5 rebounds, an assist, a steal, a block and 3 fouls drawn, hitting 5 of 6 two-pointers and 2 of 3 shots from beyond the arc for a PIR of 27, his new career high.

Energized Cedevita adding to Group A drama

Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana showed up in a must-win showing and stayed alive in the Group A playoff race with a [77-73](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/game-center/2022-23/cedevita-olimpija-ljubljana-umana-reyer-venice/U2022/121/) win over Umana Reyer Venice on Wednesday night. It was a close win, and Cedevita did not win the tiebreaker against Reyer, but it did snap its three-game losing streak and kept its chances of making a late playoff push.

"Just \[wanted\] to show our fans, ourselves and the broader world we are a serious team, and the past performances don't define who we are", said Cedevita guard [Josh Adams](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/josh-adams/007872/) who had 16 points and 4 assists in a win.

Even though it is sitting in last place with a 3-10 record, Cedevita is a dangerous team, especially offensively, and features veterans who, in addition to Adams, all stepped up on Wednesday night.

Playmaker [Yogi Ferrell](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/yogi-ferrell/011281/), who leads all active players in scoring this season (19.8 ppg.), scored 20 points and dished 7 assists against Reyer. Center [Alen Omic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/alen-omic/004222/), the EuroCup's all-time rebounding leader, pulled down 19 rebounds on Wednesday. Team captain [Edo Muric](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/edo-muric/003515/) had 13 points and 7 rebounds in the victory.

Offense has never really been a problem for Cedevita this season -it is one of seven teams scoring more than 85 points (85.2 ppg.)- but Cedevita allows 89.8 points per game, more points than any other team in the competition.

On Wednesday night, however, Cedevita made the stops, and managed to hold the opposing team under 75 points for the first time in the entire season.

"I think we really locked in on defensive principles for the first time. Everyone had great energy and did the little things that help you win the game", Adams added.

The road to the playoffs might look tough for Cedevita, but with this win the team still holds everything in its own hands. If it keeps winning, it will go through, which would make Cedevita one of the most dangerous playoff teams, one that no one would want to face.

It might sound familiar, and that's because last season Cedevita won its last eight regular season games before bowing out in a quarterfinal drama against Frutti Extra Bursaspor.

So, Cedevita staying alive and kicking just made the tightest of races even more tight. In Group A, below group leader Prometey (9-4), there are seven teams within two wins, and the bottom two – U-BT Cluj-Napoca (4-9) and now Cedevita, both with realistic chances of making a late push.

And it means we are set for more EuroCup drama as the regular season goes into its final stretch.

[Chinanu Onuaku](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/chinanu-onuaku-/012076/) has picked up his first-ever MVP of the Round accolade after shining in Hapoel Vegan Friendly Tel Aviv's 60-78 win at Dolomiti Energia Trento, which clinched the team's spot in the playoffs. The Hapoel center tallied 22 points, having made all 8 of his shots from two-point range and gone 6-of-8 from the free-throw line. Onuaku also recorded 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 6 fouls drawn. His PIR of 35 was the highest of all players on winning teams in Round 13 of the 7DAYS EuroCup. This marks the sixth time this season that a Hapoel player has been MVP of the Round.

[Yoeli Childs](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/yoeli-childs/012013/) of Veolia Towers Hamburg had this round's highest PIR, 36, but it came in a 103-105 home loss against Promitheas Patras. Childs posted 26 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals, in addition to drawing 6 fouls. [Bruno Caboclo](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/bruno-caboclo/012096/) of ratiopharm Ulm had a PIR of 34. He scored 33 points after going 14-of-17 on two-pointers. Caboclo grabbed 8 rebounds, too. Rounding out the list of top performers in Round 13 are [Sam Dekker](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/sam-dekker/009672/) of the London Lions, [Aleksander Balcerowski](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/aleksander-balcerowski/007553/) of Gran Canaria and [Josh Adams](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/josh-adams/007872/) of Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana, each of whom had a performance index rating of 27.

Bruno Caboclo tied Ulm's club record with 33 points, which led all the scorers in Round 13. Joe Young, formerly of Promitheas, remains this season's top scorer with 23.4 points per game. Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana center [Alen Omic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/alen-omic/004222/) pulled down 19 rebounds, the most in this round. [Alpha Kaba](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/alpha-kaba/007855/) of Buducnost VOLI Podgorica leads the EuroCup with 1.5 rebounds per game. Ulm playmaker [Yago Dos Santos](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/yago-dos-santos/012044/) dished 11 assists, more than anyone else in Round 13. [J'Covan Brown](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/j-covan-brown/011991/) leads the way for assists this season, averaging 7.0 assists per contest. [Derek Needham](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/derek-needham/008945/) of Frutti Extra Bursaspor recorded a round-high 4 steals on Wednesday night. [Jeremiah Martin](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/jeremiah-martin/011899/) of Slask Wroclaw tops the charts for steals, averaging 2.8 per game. The first game in Round 14, Dolomiti Energia Trento vs. Turk Telekom, is scheduled to tip off on Tuesday, February 7 at 20:00 CET, and thus marks the next round's deadline.

EuroCup Fantasy Challenge: Round 13 winner!

Gran Canaria enjoyed its highest point tally of the EuroCup season in a 118-99 home win over Paris Basketball and in what was a vintage performance worthy of the Group B leader. It was lights out for the visitors in the opening two quarters as the home side romped into a 68-49 lead on the back of nailing 10 three-pointers from 20 attempts in the first half, 5 of them coming from David Mutaf who lit up the crowd with four successive shots from downtown that hit the bottom of the net.

Gran Canaria finished on 13-of-25 shooting from three-point range and dished out a staggering total of 31 team assists, which highlighted selfless teamwork. Paris had less than half as many assists (15).

The visiting team’s head coach, Will Weaver, acknowledged his men lost to a superior rival but stressed he would look forward to another clash in the knockout stages if these two sides were pitted against each other.

"They’re an exceptionally good team, one of the best in Europe," Weaver told the post-game press conference. "Very well coached, they are deep and they shot the ball extremely well tonight. My only disappointment is that we didn’t have a healthy enough team to compete with these guys in either game we played. In the first game we were missing three players and tonight we were missing five. Maybe there will be an opportunity for these two teams to meet again and if there is, I’ll look forward to it."

Paris sank 11 three-point shots from 29 attempts and performed reasonably well in most other departments too, shooting 24 of 44 from inside the arc (Gran Canaria was 27 of 43), with the two teams tied on 35 rebounds each. But the visitors also committed 15 turnovers to Gran Canaria’s 11 and the hosts ruthlessly punished the losses of possession, having nailed a barrage of long-range shots from a quick transition of the ball.

The home team’s head coach Jaka Lakovic was humble in victory: "We are happy with the win. We respect \[Paris\] and we entered the game very strongly and with a great mentality. This translated into having a good game. Paris is a good team, they missed three very important players and their presence would have made the game different," he said.

Gran Canaria had too much firepower for Paris

Buducnost sailed into the EuroCup Playoffs with five games to spare after a 78-68 home win over the London Lions elevated the Montenegrin side to an 8-5 record, largely thanks to its primary weapon.

The home team, which leads the competition in offensive rebounds, grabbed 17 boards in London’s paint and also had 23 at the other end to prevail over the visitors, who also committed 15 turnovers.

Buducnost was 0-of-6 for three-point range in the first half but improved vastly after the break and finished on 5-of-15, while the visitors hit 5-of-21 shots from downtown.

London paid the price for an awful start, missing its opening 13 shots from the floor and having lost the first quarter 13-7, which was the team's lowest tally ever in the competition in a single quarter.

The visiting team’s outstanding forward Sam Dekker stood out with 27 points and 8 rebounds, while Ovie Soko added 11 points. However, Buducnost was able to benefit from a more balanced workload as Erick Green netted 16 points, Trae-Bell Haynes chipped in with 14 and Cameron Reynolds added 11.

In addition, Alpha Kaba racked up 9 points and 11 rebounds while Edin Atic had 8 boards, highlighting the home team’s more resourceful roster which had too much for the battling Lions.

Offensive boards lifted Buducnost to victory over London 

Prometey Slobozhanske has been one of the best teams in the 7DAYS EuroCup this season. But one area the debutant had struggled is from long range. That changed as the Ukrainian side flashed some deadly aim in grabbing a crucial 95-90 win over Joventut Badalona.

Prometey knocked down 13 of 34 three-pointers (38.2%), which was a massive improvement over the 29.9% the league’s second-highest scoring offense (86.3 ppg.) had shot coming into the game. That ranked 19th in the competition.

DJ Kennedy, DJ Stephens and Issuf Sanon all knocked down 3 three-pointers and seven Prometey players hit from the outside.

Prometey did show just how streaky it can be. After making 4 of 5 to start the game, the team made just one of its next 16 three-point attempts until draining 4 straight triples in the third quarter.
