Gran Canaria center Olek Balcerowski recently returned to the club and he showed his value against Buducnost VOLI Podgorica.
Balcerowski gives Gran Canaria more frontcourt power
Balcerowski joined Gran Canaria in 2015 and started with its cadet squad. He became the youngest player to make his Gran Canaria's first-team debut when he was 17 years and 14 days old. Balcerowski was chosen as the 2020-21 7DAYS EuroCup Rising Star after averaging 6.5 points and 3.7 rebounds in 15 games.
He started the current season on loan with Mega Basket Belgrade, but returned to Gran Canaria before the signings deadline to bolster the team's frontcourt. Balcerowski knows what it takes to be successful with Gran Canaria in the EuroCup and he proved it against Buducnost.
Balcerowski finished the game with 15 points on 4-of-5 two-point shooting and 2 of 5 three-pointers, which surprised some people. In 19 EuroCup career games, Balcerowski had shot 1 of 7 on three-pointers and had not attempted any shot from beyond the arc this season. His opening triple gave Gran Canaria its first lead, 11-10. His second came late in the game when the outcome was clear. The center added a couple of fastbreak baskets, a mid-range jumper and a block.
Gran Canaria also features Artem Pustovyi and Khalifa Diop at the '5' position and Balcerowski should give head coach Porfi Fisac even more frontcourt power to use in the most decisive games of the season.
