Cluj thrashes Trento on the road, 60-98

U-BT Cluj-Napoca secured a 60-98 win away at Dolomiti Energia Trento to extend its winning streak to four games. The visitors outplayed Trento and led throughout the 40 minutes to improve their record to 6-1. The Italian side saw its three-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 3-4.
D.J. Seeley paired his game-high 21 points with 9 rebounds, while Karel Guzman recorded a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds, as well as 5 assists and 3 steals for a game-high PIR of 34. Bryce Jones scored 14 points and Patrick Richard added 12. Andrejs Grazulis led the hosts with 15 points, having gone 5-for-6 from beyond the arc. Kamar Baldwin and Mattia Udom netted 12 points each, with the latter downing 8 rebounds.
Andrija Stipanovic scored the first 3 points of the game. Then, Seeley drilled a pull-up triple and Guzman sank a jumper for an early 0-8 Cluj surge. Trento was held scoreless for 3 minutes before Paul Biligha scored 4 back-to-back points. Seeley and Guzman nailed a three-pointer each for a Cluj double-digit lead, 4-14, midway through the first quarter. Seeley made his third triple of the night and Jones drilled a couple of baskets to allow Cluj maintain a large lead, 9-23. Back-to-back Richard triples were followed by a Baldwin bucket on the other end, but Cluj took a 14-34 lead into the second quarter.
Richard opened the second quarter with a buzzer-beating lay-up, but Trento responded with a 0-5 run to reduce the deficit to 19-36. Baldwin completed a three-point play and Udom knocked down a long two-pointer to bring Trento within 24-40. Toto Forray scored his second triple of the night, but Seeley took his tally to 12 points for a 27-43 Cluj lead. Grazulis drilled back-to-back transition triples to go 4-for-4 from beyond the arc and cut the deficit to 33-45 heading into halftime.

After the break, Seeley and Baldwin exchanged buckets before Adam Mokoka scored 5 quick points. Then, Guzman netted a corner three and Mokoka nailed a layup in transition for a 0-8 Cluj run to extend their team’s lead to 38-57. Cluj took its run to 16 unasnwered points for a 38-63 lead. Davide Alviti nailed a triple to end the guests’ momentum.
Yet, Cluj took a 41-71 cushion into the closing quarter and didn’t take its foot off the gas in the last 10 minutes. The visitors pushed forwards until the final buzzer in its bid to please the travelling fans, who didn’t stop singing from the stands throughout the game and finally celebrated this big victory with the players.
