In a rescheduled game from Round 11, Frutti Extra Bursaspor took a critical step forwards to reach the knock-out rounds in Group B by topping Umana Reyer Venice 80-66 at home on Friday.
Bursaspor takes critical makeup win over Reyer



Bursaspor improved to 6-9 in the standings while Reyer, which would have qualified to the next round with a victory, dropped to 7-8. Andrew Andrews led the winners with 27 points. Onuralp Bitim added 25 on 11-for-14 two-point shooting while Kevarrius Hayes had 12 points and 15 rebounds for Bursaspor. Mitchell Watt led Reyer with 20 points. Austin Daye added 12 while Jordan Theodore and Michael Bramos each had 11 for the guests. Bitim and Andrews stepped up early and David Dudzinski struck from downtown at the first-quarter buzzer for a 27-17 Bursaspor lead. Julyan Stone and Daye fueled a 0-10 run that brought Reyer within 29-27. Bitim and Andrews allowed Bursaspor to restore a 41-35 edge at halftime. Andrews took over after the break to boost his team's margin to 64-53 at the end of the third quarter. Nothing changed in the final 10 minutes as Bursaspor kept a safe margin all the way until the final buzzer

Hayes got Bursaspor going with a put-back basket and Derek Needham buried a three-pointer for a 5-2 lead. Theodore, with consecutive drives, brought Reyer within 7-6. Bitim followed a triple with a coast-to-coast layup for the hosts while Theodore and Bramos, from downtown, answered for Reyer. Andrews and Needham kept the hosts ahead, 17-11, then after Bramos and Bitim traded jumpers, a driving layup by Andrews prompted Reyer's timeout at 21-13. Watt and Jordan Morgan scored inside for the visitors, but when Dudzinski sank a buzzer-beating triple Bursaspor had a 27-17 after 10 minutes.
Early in the second quarter, Reyer subs Julyan Stone and Daye struck from the arc to cut the difference to 29-25. After Theodore capped Reyer's 0-10 run with a fastbreak layup, Needham rescued the hosts with his third three-pointer already. Dudzinski sank a fallaway jumper and Bitim matched Watt's layup with a put-back basket, restoring a 36-29 Bursaspor lead. Victor Sanders downed a six-meter shot and Watt added a floater to keep the guests within 36-33. Bitim kept pacing Bursaspor with a fastbreak layup and Andrews improved upon Watt's dunk with a triple, giving the hosts a 41-35 margin at halftime.
Watt scored down low soon after the break. Bitim quickly answered with a power basket and soon buried a jumper in a 6-0 run that gave Bursaspor a 47-37 lead. Stefano Tonut hit a three-pointer for Reyer, then Andrews did better with back-to-back bombs from beyond the arc. Theodore joined the three-point shootout and Watt gave Reyer hope at 53-45. Hayes stepped up with a tip-in that Bitim followed with a fastbreak layup. Daye sank a corner triple but he didn't find much help among Reyer's other scorers. Meanwhile, Andrews buried a couple of jumpers to make it a 14-point game, 62-48. Jordan Morgan and Daye brought Reyer a bit closer, 64-53, after 30 minutes.
Watt hit a jump-hook off a spin move early in the fourth quarter. Andrews fed Hayes for an alley-oop slam and soon added a three-pointer that broke the game open, 69-55, with over 7 minutes left. Watt and Bitim traded inside baskets and Bramos struck from downtown to keep Reyer within 71-60. Bitim kept pacing the hosts with a follow-up layup and Hayes scored down low. Daye and Bramos each buried a bomb from beyond the arc for a 75-66 score, but Andrews took over with a driving layup and Hayes soon sealed the outcome from the foul line, 78-66. Bursaspor held on to a well-deserved win.
