Hamburg comes short despite record performance
Last week, in Round 12, Veolia Towers Hamburg took a solid home win by matching its historic scoring record in the 7DAYS EuroCup. It was a 64-100 solid decision at Slask Wroclaw that broke a four-game losing streak. It was the third time ever that Hamburg scored 100 points in the EuroCup, the two previous being during the 2021-22 season against Lietkabelis Panevezys in Round 4 of the regular season (96-100) and Round 7 also of the regular season against Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar (100-82).
The German team did not score 100 points again during 2022, so 2023 started on a good note in Poland. In Round 13, Promitheas Patras visited the German city and it was clear from the start that it was going to be a high-scoring affair all over again. With a little over five minutes to play in the game however, the guests were leading by 88-95 and it looked like a done deal. However, the reaction of the hosts took the court like a wave and Seth Hinrichs scored for 99-99 and then, right after that, a suspenseful shot that rolled around the rime a couple of times went in to make it 101-99 and break the scoring mark of the team in the EuroCup. There was time for two more points and the hosts even had the winning shot in their hands, but Ziga Samar missed a jumper that would have made it 105 points and probably a win, but the new mark finally settled on 103 points.
Hamburg matched its historic scoring record and finally shattered it the following week. Who knows what awaits in Round 14?
