Prometey Slobozhanske and U-BT Cluj-Napoca entered their Round 8 game as the EuroCup's top two scoring offenses. And they lived up to the billing, with Cluj holding 51-57 halftime lead. However, in the second half, only one team continued with offensive success.
"In the second half we played defense together as a team, and that was key for our victory," said Prometey center Ondrej Balvin, who finished with a career-high 23 points.
Prometey matched its season-high with 105 points, but held Cluj to just 25 second-half points, including 10 in the fourth quarter.
"These were the best scoring teams in the EuroCup, and the team that would start playing defense would win this game", said Prometey head coach Ronen Ginzburg. "And we started playing defense in the second half."
However, apart from playing defense, Prometey also kept rolling on offense. They shot the lights out from long range, going 15-for-28 (53.6%) and had 24 assists. They ended up scoring even more points in the second half, 54, than they did in the first.
All that while keeping Cluj to 8-for-16 two-point shooting, 2-for-13 three-point shooting, while allowing only 7 assists and forcing 12 turnovers in the last two quarters.
