The quarterfinals are the next step for the remaining eight teams seeking to win the 7DAYS EuroCup title and, with it, the right to join the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague next season. Let's take a glance at all four of next week’s quarterfinal games.
EuroCup Quarterfinals: At a glance
Virtus Segafredo Bologna vs. ratiopharm Ulm
Virtus is looking to reach the semifinals for the second consecutive season, while Ulm has made it this far for just the second time in nine EuroCup seasons. Ulm’s previous quarterfinals appearance came in 2013, when it lost to Bilbao Basket. Ulm and Virtus faced each other in the regular season. Virtus topped Ulm 87-76 at home in Round 2 behind 20 points from Mam Jaiteh. Ulm returned the favor with an 84-68 home win of its own in Round 11. Jaron Blossomgame led the winners with 19 points and 11 rebounds in that game. Fun fact: In the second game of his EuroLeague playing career, current Ulm coach Jaka Lakovic, now coaching Ulm, posted what remains the second-highest single-game PIR in competition history, 55 – based on his 38 points and 7 assists - playing for Krka Novo Mesto on the road against Real Madrid, then coached by current Virtus boss Sergio Scariolo.
Valencia Basket vs. Boulogne Metropolitans 92
Valencia continues to seek an unprecedented fifth EuroCup title and boasts plenty of experience at this level, with guard Sam Van Rossom and center Bojan Dubljevic aiming for their third crown each. Metropolitans has made it to the quarterfinals for the third time, after previous losses at the same stage in 2015 and 2021. Will Cummings, a EuroCup champion with Darrusafaka Istanbul in 2018, and Vince Hunter, last season's Top 16 MVP, are the Metropolitans' main pillars. These teams are set to face each other for just the first time since they met in the 2013-14 EuroCup. Valencia is 8-2 at home this season and 12-1 at La Fonteta against French teams in its EuroCup history. Metropolitans has a 4-5 road record in the current EuroCup season.
Gran Canaria vs. MoraBanc Andorra
Gran Canaria will try for its fourth semifinals berth in the EuroCup after previous appearances in 2015, 2016 and 2021. Andorra reached the semifinals in 2019. Among several crossed paths in this showdown, Gran Canaria guard Dylan Ennis was chosen to the 2018-19 All-EuroCup First Team while playing for Andorra. Andorra forward Oriol Pauli played for Gran Canaria from 2014 to 2020, reaching the EuroCup Finals in 2015. His Andorra teammate Clevin Hannah was with Gran Canaria in the 2018-19 campaign. In addition to Ennis, three other Gran Canaria players – Andrew Albicy, John Shurna and Oliver Stevic – played for Andorra in the past. Indeed, all four of them played together in their quarterfinals rival’s jersey in the 2018-19 season!
Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana vs. Frutti Extra Bursaspor
Cedevita arrives to the quarterfinals on a nine-game winning streak in which it has scored more than 80 points in every game, breaking the 100-point mark three times. Bursaspor knocked off Partizan NIS Belgrade in the Serbian capital in overtime in one of the biggest EuroCup upsets in recent memory. Having faced each other in Group B of the regular season, these teams split home wins. Bursaspor downed Cedevita 93-84 in Round 3 with 21 points and 11 rebounds from Kevarrius Hayes. Cedevita thrashed Bursaspor 103-86 in Ljubljana behind 19 points from Yogi Ferrell. Bursaspor's Andrew Andrews comes off an eighthfinals MVP effort, having barely missed a triple-double – 24 points, 10 assists 8 rebounds – against Partizan. Olimpija’s Alen Omic had a monster double-double – 15 points, 16 rebounds – in his team's eighthfinals win against Turk Telekom Ankara.
