Quarterfinal confrontations set

With the exception of one upset, home teams cooked through the the 7DAYS EuroCup Eighthfinals, setting up four matchups for fans to lick their chops about next week in the quarterfinals. Prometey Slobozhanske will host Promitheas Patras in Riga, Latvia. Hapoel Vegan Friendly Tel Aviv will visit Joventut Badalona in a blockbuster. Paris Basket, the only road winner so far, will visit top-seeded Gran Canaria. And, in the last quarterfinal to be resolved, Turk Telekom will host ratiopharm Ulm .

Turk Telekom Ankara made good on its home-court advantage by turning back Germani Brescia for a 77-69 victory in the last game of the 7DAYS EuroCup Eighthfinals on Thursday. Turk Telekom will host ratiopharm Ulm next week in the quarterfinals. The last of 9 ties and 19 lead changes came on a put-back by Tyrique Jones on the third-quarter buzzer, then Turk Telekom scored the first 8 points of the fourth to take control the rest of the way. Axel Boutielle led the winners with 21 points, while Tyrique Jones had 14 without a miss and Nathan Sestina added 10. Erkan Yilmaz added 8 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 blocks.

ratiopharm Ulm dominated the third quarter to complete a comeback from a 17-point second-quarter deficit en route to a 92-83 victory over visiting Buducnost VOLI Podgorica on Wednesday to reach next week's quarterfinals. Bruno Caboclo led the winners with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Brandon Paul scored 18 on 4-of-7 three-point shooting, Fedor Zugic added 14 against his former team and Yago Dos Santos ran the offense with 10 points and 7 assists. Erick Green paced Buducnost with 29 points, Trae Bell-Haynes contributed 17 points and 8 assists and Alpha Kaba collected 11 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks in defeat.

Paris Basketball made it to the 7DAYS EuroCup Quarterfinals by downing 7Bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys 97-98 on the road in a thriller at Cido Arena on Wednesday. Paris became the fifth French League team to reach the EuroCup Quarterfinals, after LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, AS Monaco, Strasbourg and Metropolitans 92. Lietkabelis lost in the eighthfinals for the second consecutive campaign, finishing the 2022-23 EuroCup season with a 10-9 record.

Juhann Begarin led the winners with 22 points. Tyrone Wallace posted a double-double of 19 and 10 assists. Aamir Sims contributed 16 points, including 5-for-6 free-throw shooting in the final 15 seconds. Gauthier Denis added 11 points while Ismael Kamagate had 10 and 9 rebounds for Paris. Promitheas Patras secured an 89-75 victory over Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse on Wednesday night at Dimitris Tofalos Arena to seal a spot in the 7DAYS EuroCup Quarterfinals. The hosts were superior from start to finish and managed to hold a comfortable lead whenever the visitors tried to fight back. Promitheas will play away Prometey Slobozhanske on the road in next week’s quarterfinals.

Anthony Cowan paired his 20 points with 10 assists to lead the winners. Arnoldas Kulboka also recorded 20 points. Joe Thomasson added 13 points and George Conditt had 12. For Bourg, Jordan Floyd scored 16 points, Isiaha Mike registered 13 and Pierre Pelos had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Hapoel Vegan Friendly Tel Aviv marched into the 7DAYS EuroCup last eight with a 90-80 home win over Umana Reyer Venice in the first knockout round of the competition on Wednesday. It was a big night for EuroCup debutant Hapoel and the home team responded with a superb performance in front of a frenetic crowd that roared on the hosts from start to finish, having given them a standing ovation after the contest.

Xavier Munford and Bar Timor paced Hapoel with 13 points each, J’Covan Brown had 12 points and 8 assists, Chinanu Onuaku scored 11 points while Tomer Ginat and Idan Zalmanson netted 10 each – the latter also racking up 5 rebounds in just 13 minutes on the court. At the other end, Jayson Granger posted a game-high 18 points, Derek Willis scored 16 while Amedeo Tessitori and Jordan Parks amassed 13 apiece.

Joventut Badalona defeated the London Lions 89-78 at Palau Olimpic de Badalona on Wednesday as Ante Tomic led the way for Joventut with 16 points on a night when five other players for the hosts reached double figures. Henry Ellenson scored 14 points, Kyle Guy and Andres Feliz both had 13, Joel Parra chipped in with 12 and Guillem Vives finished with 10. For London, Tomislav Zubcic paced the visitors with a game-high 19 points. Aaron Best also had 18 and Jordan Taylor 14, while Sam Dekker scored 8 but was clearly still affected by the ankle injury he suffered in Round 17.

Gran Canaria returned to the 7DAYS EuroCup Quarterfinals by downing Frutti Extra Bursaspor 72-66 in the do-or-die eighthfinals at home on Wednesday. Gran Canaria reached the quarterfinals for the eighth time in club history and is set to face Paris Basketball in the next phase. Bursaspor, which won three consecutive road playoff games to reach the final last season, could not repeat that success, finishing the season with an 8-11 record.

John Shurna led the winners with 17 points. Khalifa Diop added 11, and five of his teammates scored 5 points or more for Gran Canaria. Onuralp Bitim paced Bursaspor with 22 points. Zach Auguste posted a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds for the visitors.

Prometey Slobozhanske became the first team to reach the 7DAYS EuroCup Quarterfinals after it defeated Veolia Towers Hamburg 87-79 in their eighthfinals matchup at Arena Riga on Tuesday evening. Despite being without D.J. Kennedy and having Caleb Agada not enter the game, the No. 1 seed from Group A found a way to extend its winning streak to 12 games in the EuroCup. Illia Sydorov paced Prometey with a game-high 21 points. D.J. Stephens, who was initially an injury doubt, had 15 points and 9 rebounds, while Gian Clavell and Ondrej Balvin scored 14 points apiece. Issuf Sanon contributed 13 points, too. For the visitors, Yoeli Childs recorded a 19-point, 12-rebound double-double and Harrison Cleary finished with 19 points. Ziga Samar and Lukas Meisner also reached double figures with 14 and 10 points, respectively.
