Gran Canaria will hand the reins of its offense to Ferran Bassas after signing the playmaker to a two-year deal, the club announced on Wednesday. Bassas (1.81 meters, 30 years old) arrives from boyhood club Joventut Badalona, where he spent the past two seasons. He averaged 6.4 points on 43.3% three-point shooting and 4.1 assists last season, but only appeared in seven games in the 7DAYS EuroCup due to injuries. Bassas ranked fourth in the EuroCup in assists the season before with 5.8 per game.

Bassas, who is currently with the Spanish national team, is Granca’s first signing since naming Jaka Lakovic head coach. Bassas has also played for Baloncesto Oviedo, Tenerife Canarias and San Pablo Burgos. He helped Tenerife win the Basketball Champions League in 2017 and the Intercontinental Cup in 2018.
